That's ridiculous. I have the E-PL5 with the VF-4 viewfinder. I guess I won't be upgrading to this! I was considering that because of the 4K video.

Actually, I have a flat side-stepping tripod plate thing-a-ma-jig that could mount a tripod or mini-tripod/vlogging-handle on this thing without blocking the screen in selfie mode. Whether that solution would appeal to anyone in this camera's target demographic is a separate issue, of course. I don't know if they come in pretty colours. ;-)
Does the E-PL9 have an anti-aliasing/low-pass filter?
Thanks for the review. Too bad it weight just about the same as E-M10 Mark III, which has 5-axis of IBIS instead of 3, and an EVF. I guess the only reason to buy this is for the selfie screen and the looks.
I think the panorama mode would result better if the camera pan on camera body axis not the photog body axis.
disappointed they removed the optional evf hot shoe. waited for this but nevermind.

Would you keep the camera on a tripod or hold it while filming. Because with a tripod, the E-PL9 is annoying as the screen tilts downwards.
I would be using a tripod bc I’m filming myself cooking
The you will be better off with a camera that has multi-angle LCD screen that can be flipped on the side and rotated. Have a look at the Panasonic G85 (or G80 if you live in Europe), or also the G7 if you want to spend less.

This camera has at least two deal breakers. I wonder if those banana heads at Olympus EVER use the cameras they sell.

Hello! Can you answer one question? How about sensor overheating in 4K/30fps mode? Some compact cameras can write about 3-5 min in this mode, and after 3-5 min filming they auomatic turn off recording for cooling. Is sensor overheating present in this E-PL9?
I use this as my B cam and the sensor never overheats. With a hack you can bypass the 30 minute recording limit and even after shooting an event for 1.5 hours it kept going 👍

How easy is it to change ISO in one of the semi manual modes? I saw an article that says it isn't easy.
You can assign ISO to a function button so it becomes easier to change it. Or you use the Super Control Panel that you can trigger with the OK button. It's not as quick as having a dedicated button or dial, but it's easy enough.
Will it work with the VF-4 viewfinder like my E-PL5 does?
No because it doesn’t have the connection on the rear anymore.

1:48 I noticed you 're shooting 4K video and already have reached 28 mins. Does this mean the EPL9 is better in overheating issues after 5 mins?
No, the count in white shows how many minutes are left (in this case, 28 minutes left).

it was a press event with limited time, so I can't really tell, I didn't have time to test the overheating, if there is any.
The selfy only tilts down??? What on earth are these people thinking???

It was cloudy on the day I tested it and it wasn't too bad. With strong sunshine it may be worse but I wasn't using the full brightness.

which is better between e-p5 and e-pL8 or e-p series vs e-pL series
The E-P series is now discontinued, it used to be a bit more advanced than the E-PL series in terms of specs and features, but the only line-up that keep standing now is the E-PL (plus the Pen F which has a built-in viewfinder).
So, what you are saying is that, unless you need the selfie screen, you should just go get a used ep5.
Certainly not a bad idea, I’m sure you can find a used ep5 for a low price.

Probably the muted profile.

Yes you can shoot RAW (for stills).

Inside the menu, or if you press the OK button on the rear, a table with a series of settings should appear, and you can change it there. It might not let you change it if you work in full Auto mode.

Loosing the comms port to attach a viewfinder is a serious issue, I dont care if the camera does 4K or 40K video if I cannot use a viewfinder to confortable use it when the direct sunlight goes into my screen. To my humble opinion, this EPL9 is a step backwards from their previous EPL8, even the flash GN is less powerfull than the previous model! Shame on you, Olympus, shame on you.
More of the same move on folks nothing to see here apart from a stupid Canon eos m 5 style flip down screen. Mad.
Boring spec reading, where is you critical review? And you forgot to mention the disappearing of the acessory port. Thumbs down for both the E-Pl9 and your specreading.
