This is hands down the most beautifully designed camera I have ever seen. That blue colour is simply awesome.
This looks like a fantastic camera to take on trips and vacations and still get really good shots. It has all the features that I would want in such a small body. Very impressive.

I guess this mini m43 is a good backup camera specially if you wanted to keep in touch with the best moments while not worrying about your back lol

Thanks for the review. I don't mind all the in camera video editing features (such as Art, digital filters..) even though I can always post process in my computer, but I'd trade it all in for the external mic jack. Not sure how it would affect the size. When I want great audio I'll use my Tascam or H4n. For me I want the 4K (would like 60), mic jack, in body stabilizer, interchangeable lens, articulating screen. I prefer a view finder, but can live without it.

I have an E-PL6 and I love it. I wasn't planning to buy a camera, but I got it for such a cheap price ($180 and it came with 2 lenes) that I couldn't pass it up. So far I would consider it a great beginners' camera.
this camera is soooo waaay better than a smart phone and would be a great addition above and beyond those that want a bit more power punch / quality over using a phone. I think ya kinda down played the total up scale quality of pics/vid compared to phone pics. Yes, a bit more weight but certainly MUCH better overall picture & printable quality, just say’n ... and just my .02 ~peace! ✌🏼
Can you do coverage on the Pl10? Im suprised nobody on the internet has talked about it
I got this camera, the E-PL9 and a Panasonic GH5. Certainly the GH5 outperformes the E-PL9 in many ways, but it had cost me around €1000 more (got both used). I think the E-PL9 is great value for the price. Olympus targets it a selfie shooters a lot so more serious photographers gonna miss out on this one... originally I got it since I thought it would be a good camera that is compact, but on day one of using it, I was already upset with the 14-42mm pancake lens. The lens does a good job for the money, but f5,6 at 42mm simply doesn't work out in low light. So I got myself the big olympus 12-40 which is a very good lens in my opinion. But I completely lost the small form factor now. Anyways, I will use the 12-40 also on my GH5, so I'm fine.

my brother was very into filming and photography and i was looking for a nice quality camera with good style and basically found this one. i dont know anything about cameras or photography really but this video really sold me on this one. out of all the cameras (and i mean a lot) this one has the best features personally for me. im just also wondering what is the best lens for a beginner other than the standard lens? id love to try new one :)

Hi Benj. I'm glad you've enjoyed, thanks for the sub. Both are good, but I'd probably recommend the E-PL9 over the M100. Main reason is that the in-body image stabilisation in much better in the E-PL9 (it's kind of Olympus' specialty), and that there are many more lenses available for the Olympus system then there are for Canon's mirrorless system. I want to buy this camera mainly for video. I think the new high-end image processor can produce great video images. does it have s-log" like" for color grading options?
I have to issue one correction, you said that you can use all of Olympus' lenses on this. That is true but not the full scope, you can use all of the micro 4/3 lenses including Panasonic.

how do you save settings to custom modes? is there no workaround for this apparently missing feature on pl9?

hi. any idea on how to get the art filters working when filming in 4k? they seem to only work in 1080, although they work in 4k on the em10iii..
what lens did u use for these sample photos? so much bokeh for a m43 sensor. very nice!
How can you add a mic to this camera? Is it possible?
HELP!!!!!!!!! I was messing about with new EPL10 looking at all the menus in AP and trying the different silent, panoramic etc modes that came up on the screen but now I can't get rid of them so every time I switch it on I get the damn selection on screen!
It's driving me nuts.
How can I get reset to have a live view screen at startup?
I like the AP setting for taking pix but need to have a live view on startup.
Does it have time limit on 4k recording?

I was set on getting the GX80/85, for which I also watched your review, but I've started thinking about the E-PL9 too, because of the selfie screen and the Bluetooth connection. I need an amateur/enthusiast level camera that's compact and primarily has good IQ, in terms of sharpness and vibrant colours. Are the two cameras comparable in this regard?
Hi there. In terms of image quality, the GX85 and E-PL9 are identical, so I would base your decision on their other features.
@@digiDirectAustralia Thanks for the confirmation! Having done some extra research, I actually chose the Pen, for its reduced size, selfie screen, in-camera panorama and some other features.

Hi Simon. Thanks, glad you enjoy the quality. I shoot on a Panasonic GH4 (in 4K) using the 12-35mm f/2.8 lens. For audio I use a Rode SmartLav+ just plugged into my iPhone running the Rode Rec app. Thanks!
I really need help deciding between this model, the Fujifilm Xt100, or the Canon M100. I will be using it for product photos, and my children want to vlog. I would love any advice, please. Thank you.
M100 is in the running because it's 350 locally with the 2 lenses kit.

Can you tell me if the Olympus Mark 10 II is too old to be effective in 2019, so should I go for this Pen L9 instead or the Mark 10 iii?
Hi Debra. No, I wouldn't say the E-M10 II is too old these days. You can watch my video on the E-M10 III at the link below, I discuss quite a bit the differences between the E-M10 II and E-M10 III, then you can decide if it's worth the upgrade or if the E-M10 II is sufficient for your needs.

I have 4 Olympus MFT cameras but I will not buy a camera without an EVF or option for add on EVF.

Really disappointing that you can't use the touch screen when the camera is on tripod. Not really sure what they were thinking?
Technically if it's on the tripod you're not going to touch the camera, you would have a trigger to pull

Sad there is no additional Viewfinder. A down step for Olympus.

I'm wanting a camera that will stay with me for years and I just don't know if I should buy this brand--

Hi Gustavo. Unfortunately the E-PL9 doesn't have a mic jack, so you can't connect a mic to it. If you're looking for general audio recorder options (independent of your camera), I'd recommend my video on the topic here: th-cam.com/video/tjHghH7crFk/w-d-xo.html

Thanks John, glad you enjoyed. At this point there isn't. The E-PL8 was compatible with the Olympus VF-4 viewfinder that could be bought separately, but unfortunately the E-PL9 isn't compatible with it

It looks great, but when you consider that for only $200 more you can get something like Sony a6300, with larger sensor and a lot more tech inside, its a hard sell. I love the look though, really stylish.
Krunoslav Stifter you'll be surprised that in my country (Thailand), they sold a lot of this kind of camera, EPL-9, Panasonic GF10.
they advertise it to be more fashionable, and women here bought a lot of its, it even sell better than OMD-EM series for Olympus.
The difference in image quality for most uses is negligible, but the overall size of camera + lens is substantial. This camera is a no brainer - best everyday, travel and semi-pro camera ever.

Hi there. I'm assuming you are asking why would you spend money on a camera when you've already spent money on a phone which has a camera? The quality of a camera like this is much superior to a phone camera. It has a much larger sensor which means much better picture quality, low light performance, shallow depth of field. It also has interchangeable lenses and many other features not available on a phone. It's a bit similar to saying why would anyone buy a Playstation when you can play mobile games on your phone.
