      Sweet. I really want an EP-7. It's kinda the sweet spot for me in features, size, form factor. But very hard to get in Latin America. So sticking with the E-PL9 for the time being.

      I have same combo - the E-M1 MkII paired with 40-150 Pro f2.8 and the E-PL9 (white) with either the 12-40 pro f2.8 or the Zuiko 25mm f1.8 for rangefinder feel! The 16MP sensor still rocks with awesome colours, and use mine in the "silent" mode to get the electronic shutter for events.

    l bought a E-PL6 kit supplied with two Lenses...14-42mm & 40-150mm... about six years ago. Why did l choose this type over an SLR? because years ago l owned a Leica M6 and a lllB (made in 1938) with a couple of lenses and realised l just love the small quite, unobtrusive camera systems, (compared to modern cameras earlier rangefinders were particular diminutive)....as apposed to the, usually, larger clunky SLRs..However it is 'Horses for Courses' Moving on thirty years I'm a big fan of the Micro 4/3s format. Since returning to photography l have added a E-PL8 body a 9mm, 45mm lenses plus my latest acquisition a 60mm Macro. Apart from the small size the Pen range have that solid quality 'made of metal' feel which l remember so well, gives enormous confidence...To 'Snap' what Henri Cartier Bresson called 'The decisive moment' they are just perfect... They ain't the Leica rangefinders, but they ain't the same cost either!..

    I have an EP-7. First i wanted to buy the EPL10 because i do really like how it looks. But when i saw the EP7 has the better IBIS i did gone for it.
    Initially I bought it for video but it turned out I found fun in taking photos what I have never done before😅

      EP7 isn't available here in Latin America so getting my hands on one is pretty hard. I'm jealous as I really, really want one. That would be my "every day" camera for sure. Everything is just a little tweak of improvement over the EPL10. Except the colour selection. I do wish it came in some other options, like the mocha or denim.

    My Fujifilm X-E2 with the interchangeable 27mm (40mm FF equivilent) pancake & EVF fills this role in fine fashion. My Olympus route shoots with a gorgeous last of the stainless steel bodied E-P3 Pens. I always use the excellent, more versatile than the built in type add on external viewfinder. Love ‘em both, each in it’s own satisfying lane👌

    This is the first of your video's I've seen and I have to complement you on a very useful video with great presentation. I am also a big Olympus/OM Systems fan and have been shooting their gear since the film days, through the Four Thirds cameras, and then into Micro Four Thirds. My first MFT camera was a PEN - E-P2. I have a PEN E-P5 and E-PL9 now in addition to a some OM-D bodies and an OM-1. Again, great video, but in the interest of constructive input I some corrections:
    1. The E-PL9 and E-PL10 (which are essentially identical) do share some significant improvements over the E-PL8. The 9 & 10 have the TruePic VIII image processor, but the 8 has the TruePic VII processor. Due to the processor upgrade, the 9 & 10 can shoot 4k video vs. the FHD of the 8. The rear screen on the 9 & 10 will tilt all the way down to face forward for vlogging but not on the 8. The 9 & 10 have 121 AF points vs. 81, and both the 9 & 10 have Bluetooth in addition to the Wi-Fi only of the 8. The 9 & 10 have a built in flash. However, the 8 has a port for one of several electronic viewfinders, as do most of the PENs from the E-PL8 and E-P5 backwards.
    2. As stated in the last sentence above, most of the PEN models through the E-PL8 or E-P5 have an accessory port for a high quality hot-shoe mounted EVF like the Olympus VF-4. The EVF does add to the bulk of the camera, but is great for bright outdoor situations and for critical composition.
    3. The E-P7 has some significant improvements over the PEN-F. It has the TruePic VIII processor whereas the PEN-F has the TruePic VII. The 7 supports Bluetooth, 4k video has a built-in flash, the same flip-down-for-vlogging screen as the E-PL9 & 10, Live Composite Modes, focus bracketing & stacking, and has a 1/8000th top shutter speed vs. the 1/4000th of the PEN-F.
    I have an OM-1 and only partially agree with you about the performance of the new sensor. Most sources document at least 1 stop of DR improvement and improved color fidelity and reduced noise at high ISOs. However, this real advantage of this dual-layer sensor is it's screaming readout speed compared to any single-layer sensor. This is why the OM-1 can shoot up to 120 fames per second with all sorts of other FPS combinations, with and without continuous AF and/or exposure. From other reviews I've seen, this new sensor also produces better color fidelity because of the way a dual-level sensor pipelines the image data. It is the technology of choice for many new bodies from other vendors, and is new enough I don't think it's full potential has been exploted.
    In summary, notwithstanding my comments above, your overall points really carry this video:
    1. The PEN series is fun to shoot and small enough to always have with - I totally agree.
    2. Even non-photographers love the look of them (which helps with candid and street photography shooting).
    3. The best camera is the one you have with you - see #1 above.
    4. The MFT lens selection is fantastic.
    5 The PENs (and the Olympus OM-D series) were so advanced at the time that they are still great picture makers today, and at dirt cheap prices.
    Great video I will share with others, and you have more than earned a cup of coffee! Thank you!

    Great video, just came us as suggestion and have subscribed. I bought the PL10 before Christmas for 6 reasons,
    1. OM Systems were selling them in Europe for a huge discount inc kit lens and spare battery. 2. Unlike my M10 MKIII you can use it for blogging as the screen flips down. 3. On some occasions e.g. public events etc. you want a camera that looks very consumer and so not having an EVF you shoot differently and so you can bring the camera into places that you would normally be stopped or get strange looks. 4. As I work with teams I need a camera that I could give to anyone to shoot behind the scenes stills and B Roll while I'm using more pro kit on a shoot.5. I work with a presenter who attends openings, red carpet events, cat walks shows etc. She would no take a full frame camera or something the looks "Ugly" however the white PL10 looks smart and fashionable, can connect to her iPhone so she can instantly Insta (and have bought hr matching shoulder bag to go with it). 6. Uses all my existing Olympus and Lumix lens'
    I also still use a PL! that I bought back in 2012 as its tiny, shoots raw and can still get some good street photography / friends and family occasions shot on it (video is a bit ropey).

    Hi, thanks for your video. I have the EPl8 which I have paired with the Lumix 20mm f1.7 as an everyday carry.
    I did purchase the EPL9 but sold it on as there were several features that were omitted on the EPL9 in particular the My Set (pre stores) that could then be saved to a redundant item on the Mode Dial for quick access. The EPL9 has no My Set facility. But the main omission was the lack of being able to attach an Electronic Viewfinder to the ‘hot shoe’. This had been a feature on the EPL range from the EPL1 to the EPL8 and in my opinion was a poor marketing/ design decision by Olympus.
    Having said that I did like the AP setting on the Mode Dial and the improved Panorama setting.

    As a filmmaker I love the small factor, use EP7 as my A-Cam and EPL9 as my B-Cam, works perfect for me. Worth noting is that EP7 allows you to do colour-grading inside the camera. I know one can do that in post, but having it insidethe camera allow me to set up the lights properly to get the atmosphere I want.

    My 10 year old Panasonic GM1 is still my go to travel camera. With its collapsible 12-32 zoom lens it fits in a jacket pocket or waist pack. Have thought about buying another as a backup.. how does the Olympus Pen 9 compare? Similar picture quality?

    • @cameracafebyscott
      @cameracafebyscott  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't have a GM1, but they have extremely similar sensors from the same generation. Other than color science, I think your photographs will be extremely similar under the same conditions. For video, the Pen E-PL9 will crush the GM1 because of the newer processor.

    • @cameracafebyscott
      @cameracafebyscott  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Awesome, the 9 & the 10 are nearly identical. What an amazing camera. The entire PEN line, except maybe the F, is definitely Asia focused, but the EPL models are globally available. The EP line, however, is limited and only Asia / Europe; which sucks as I live in LATAM. I really want an EP7 but I'd have to import from Europe or Asia. But the EPL9 is so amazing, I'm probably just waiting for the EP8 or F2 for an upgrade.
      I have the 9 and 15mm lenses. Which 30 f/10 do you have?
      I generally use the non-pancake, but still small, premium lenses from M.Zuiko like the 17mm, 25mm and 45mm. Those are my workhorses. And honestly, the 17mm while the most popular overall, is the one I use the least. I'm on 25mm most of the time, but like the 45mm best.

      I think that they will stick with either, but maybe not both, the EP and EPL. The EP7 is way ahead of the EPL 9 or 10, but the EPL7 I don't think is. Are you sure you mean the EPL7 not the EP7? The EP7 is newer and a line higher than the EPL10 and crushes everything in the EPL line (but costs a lot more, too, and is not available in much of the world including this entire hemisphere.)
      They've eliminated their pocket line for the moment. I'd guess, like most point and shoots, it won't come back. But the EP7 is doing well and people are clamouring for the PEN F2. And the EPL10 sells well in Asia. My guess is that the EPL11 is just waiting for a general update across the line so that it doesn't compete too heavily with the EP7,

    Gracias Scoot por tus videos, soy poseedor de epm2 que uso nornalmemte con yongnuo 25mm y olympus 45mm para fotos calle y retratos de modo aficcionado. Crees que el cambio de mi epm2 a una epl9 estaria bien?? Son grandes las diferencias para merecer la pena el cambio?? Muchas gracias!!!
