The Invicta 1953(Ref 31290) is a homage to what at the time was an unnamed Rolly prototype diver introduced at Baselworld 1953, which would become the ref 6204 Submariner, which was introduced for the first time to the public and made available for purchase at Baselworld 1954.
It's funny cuz the wrap on the 1953 bracelet is it's "Jingly jangly" loose, however as a former Certified Master Horologist and Certified Rolex Independent Service/Repair Horologist before they brought that in-house with their regional RRC's, I've worked on hundreds of Rollies and four 6204's(yah, I kept a notebook of every single watch that I worked on across my 9+ years as a Master. Anyhoo, the old Rolly stainless steel Oyster bracelets were "jingly jangly," well into the early 2000's, with the 11610/hole, lol.
That is really cool that it has that same feeling as the original 6205🤙.
My only bitch on the 1983(for those that have a laundry list, please remember that it's a 99 goddamn dollar watch, lol🤪) is that for a few pennies, literally, they could've put the domed crystal per the original Sub 6204, and that would have put it over the top.
I don't know if you can pick up an aftermarket domed acrylic crystal though if they do offer them, if ya really wanna take your 1983 to the top floor, pick one up!!
And NO, DO NOT add a sapphire Crystal if available cuz this is a homage and the Sub 6204 used acrylic crystal, not sapphire!!
    Nice vid🤙
    Continued Success🍻

Owned a Rolex Submariner and a Sea-Dweller both, bought used for $2400 and $1400 respectively in the late 80’s. And yes the bracelets were jangly and the clasps stamped.. A couple of my buddies had two-tone Datejusts on Jubilees which were even more jangly, lol.

I have this watch and 2 8926OB’s ive had one 8926OB for about 6 years and it’s literally been through major abuse and still works as well as the day I bought it. I think invicta is a great brand, I have a few gigantic watches too (venom and bolt) yeah they’re heavy and I wear them for only an hour or two at a time because they’re so big lol but again. The quality with whatever piece you buy will always be good and you do get a lot of value for your money. Thanks for the video!

  • @federicoprice2687
    @federicoprice2687 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Great video, thank you. I own several Rolexes but my "go to" watches are homage Invictas or Paganis. Personally, I quite like the Invicta branding on the case side and face because it screams "I'm an Invicta, not a Rolex copy." Isn't that fair enough? As for value for money, they're incredible, and it's hard to fault the quality for the price, which is excellent. The only criticism of your review is that on two occasions you say "it's hard to do worse", which by definition, surely means it is at the bottom, ie. the worst. In my view, for my money, I rate this 1953 as "it's hard to do better" in terms of quality for cost. I regard most of the (traditional looking) homage ProDivers in the same way. But I fully agree that the classic unfussy 1953 is particularly brilliant. You get a fantastic bang for buck. Greetings from the UK 🇬🇧 😀

It was probably a nice look in 1953. It looks kind of boring today. If you want to look like something you’re not, I guess you could buy it. But why? All it says is “I’d love an old Rolex, but I’m a loser that can’t afford one, so here we are. Except, I can’t afford a decent imitation either, so I got this.”
If you’re going to get an Invicta, get a Grand Diver. Same movement and it doesn’t look like you’re trying to be a poser. Plus it has a date, solid end links, and a solid clasp. Waaaah, but the branding!!! Get a life, people.

The NH35a is a pretty reliable movement....I have 6 or 7 watches with this movement....and they have always served me well! I keep mine in a watch winder...so they are always spot on time.
This is a nice watch...just too small for my wrist...but I have a very large wrist. But I am 6'6" and was an offensive lineman many years ago in college. My wrist is basically 9 inches, so a 40mm watch looks rather small. I usually wear a 47 mm Grand Diver, or another brand that makes larger watches...( hint...the Name is the same of a US President from the 1970's )!
I do have some smaller watches that I wear when my wife an I go out...like a gorgeous "Tank" watch that is black ceramic and polished SS with a black dial, SS hands and diamond hour markers. I also have an Invicta "Tank" watch that is gold IP with a white dial and Roman Numerals...both are quite watches, and they are easy to swap out old batteries.

@@allthingsrandom8137 true story, my daily driver is a 40mm ceramic sub. I really do love that watch but don’t tell anyone (looks around and whispers), I have a 1953 in my Amazon cart 😬

All about what it LOOKS like. Not how reliable or accurate it is. Useless.

It’s an NH35. It’s a work horse movement that is like a Honda. Curious what is useless about it? Other than the comment 🤷🏻‍♂️

@allthingsrandom: Actually it's a great movement. Bang for the buck, perhaps the best in the world. Mine (I have 2 or them) are within COSC specifications (-4 to + 6 spd). Granted, that I carefully store them overnight has a bit to do with that COSC spec specification, as they are different in crown up or horizontal regulation. That said, my friend's Rolex it twice as accurate, but 400X times more expensive. The only problem with my Invicta Pro Diver is that it looks like a @#$% Rolex! Makes me a target for thieves! Seems that Rolex came up with a great ergonomic watch design, and everyone copied it. Oh well. It's not as accurate as a quartz movement, but it has more quiddity.

@@N7492 so then I’m not sure what you’re talking about with your first comment. Clearly, you know a lot about the moment, five seconds breezing over it tells you how accurate or how good of quality it is, so why wouldn’t I then talk about the looks of the watch?

@@allthingsrandom8137 Excellent point! I'm a function over form guy, mostly, from my Tilly hat to sensible shoes. The Invicta Pro Diver copies the Rolex submariner (an unforgivable sin to many), which, IMHO, is a superb ergonomic design. In that respect, looks matter. Of course, If I were totally function over form, I'd never have a delicate, somewhat inaccurate, mechanical watch at all, and simply wear my tough, accurate to within a human reaction time Casio G shock atomic solar powered watch.
