My second bite at the juicy cherry that is the Invicta 1953. When I looked at it last April, it was genuinely smoking hot. This time around, not so much, but still a great way to spend $100 if you want a very attractive, and nicely rounded retro diver. Cheers, Jody

I have this exact watch. I was disappointed that ShopHQ didn't have the original since I never got a chance to buy one after it was released. I went with the red and thought about the blue, but decided one was enough. What I like most about this one is the bezel action. It's much easier to use than my other Pro Divers, and certainly easier than the ones with the scalloped bezels. This has a much better feel; way easier to grip. It's definitely one of the best, if not THE best in the Pro Diver line. Thanks for the review.

Don't know if it was a marketing ploy by Invicta to make this watch so elusive when it came out, but if it was, it worked. Was desperate to get one and did so when it became more readily available. Really pleased with it. Beautiful and bombproof! Nice review J.

Although I’m somewhat of a “watch mod virgin”, I’ve recently modded my Invicta 1953 and replaced the mineral crystal with a flat sapphire crystal. It doesn’t really look any different than it did originally but the knowledge that it has a sapphire crystal does make a big difference.

@@Pachequiux I watched other people like Jody Musgrove (Just One More Watch) and Dan Dodson (Watch Me With Watches) to see how they did it. When I felt confident enough, I bought a crystal press and a sapphire crystal specifically for the Invicta 1953. You will need to remove the back of the watch, remove the stem and crown which allows you to remove the automatic movement. Pop off the mineral crystal and attach the sapphire crystal then put the watch back together. I’ve put a sapphire crystal on the 1953 and also 2 Casio Duros. You really need to watch how it is done on TH-cam, there are quite a few videos showing the process. The 2 Casios have a double domed sapphire crystal which makes them look fantastic.

I have two. An all black bezel and a batman colored bezel. I think they're about the best do all watches you can get. You can dress them up, down, swap straps, etc. And the Seiko NH35A is a really good movement. I have three invicta watches with that movement and they all keep time so accurately that I only have to adjust it once a week or so.

Last year I kept checking Invicta Europe for the black bezel Invicta 1953 and for months it was unavailable until one day it was temporarily available so I snapped one up immediately. As I live in the UK, it arrived from Invicta Europe two days later. It looks great with its vintage style and unguarded crown and of the three Invicta watches that I have, this is by far the most accurate, running about +3 to +5 seconds a day.

    Very well done!
    Here's something:
This Invicta is a homage of the prototype of the yet-to-be named dive watch by Rolex (-hence no Submariner at the 6 position).
Zodiac with their Sea Wolf, and Blancpain with their Fifty-Fathoms, first introduced the first commercially available dive watches at Baselworld in 1953.
(According to some accounts, Zodiac released the Sea Wolf just prior to this event.
Rolex, that same year, showed ONLY a prototype of their yet-to-be named dive watch.
It wasn't until Baselworld in 1955, that Rolex Submariner made available their dive watch for commercial purchase.

They get credit for leaving-off the hood ornament logo. The San Martin is about $200 more - with confidence and the right gear it makes sense to mod the Invicta. Bezel insert, maybe a repro milsub dial and sword hands - you're still ahead and the Invicta has a pretty rotor. Bonus! This is a bargain either way.

@@gordanbabic8028 Vostoks are not a myth; they are quite real. If you are talking about the quality of the watches, funnily enough they are less of a myth than Seiko, the lower to mid range of which, at least, is frankly crappy. My basis is the ownership or possession (I ran a vintage watch sales business 20 years ago) of something north of 100 Seikos of various vintages, and I actually was a partner in an authorized dealer of Vostoks in the US that folded with death of the original Poljot concern (which was the bulk of our business).
Amphibias back then were not insanely great watches by any stretch, (Poljots were, though) but at the $50 we sold them for, they were all you could ask for. Twenty years on most of the glaring quality issues have been solved, most notably the galvanic corrosion issues caused by the chrome-plated brass crown and bezel (which are now stainless in current production), and unlike just about EVERY other name brand watch available then and now the price has only followed inflation in terms of increases; $50 then is about $75 now- despite the quality improvements. Some even have livable bracelets now!
Just for clarity: I was a partner in a Russian import firm in the early 2000s. I have thought about trying to sell a self branded Amphibia as a sort of Amphibia SE Plus. I do not currently import or sell Vostok products, nor am I employed by somebody who does. I do buy them from time to time as essentially disposable beater watches, which is what you can expect the nature of any sub-$100 mechanical to be, from Vostok or otherwise.
Quality sub-$100 mechanical watches died with the First Moscow Watch Factory (Poljot) in 2004. The Vostok 2416 is capable of being quality, but in the standard found in basic Amphibias, it is not.

I wanted the OG one variant but honestly the bicolour ones are really growing on me, debated getting a coke and tossing it on a dark leather strap for a "rum and coke" look (my grandfather's drink of choice), that said I'm thinking the black and green variant on a yellow dive strap will be my choice, and yes I know it'll be loud but it's the colours of the Jamaican flag the country where my paternal side of my family were all born and lived until 1977 when they came to Canada. Figure wearing something with the colours of the flag is a great way to remember my grandparents (they are both deceased, my grandpa in 09 my grandma just this past january) I've already bought a swatch that invokes memories of Jamaica (the 34mm couer de mangue) and reminds me of my grandma as she had a large collection of swatch watches (she'd buy one from the duty free cart on every trip they took) and I figure between that and a diver (that I'll actually wear to Jamaica to scatter their ashes) it's 2 more modern things I can use on a more regular basis as a lot of the other momentos I have are things like pictures, some paintings, my grandpa's vintage camera and his checkerboard which are all amazing but given their age are somewhat delicate.
Sorry for the ramble I just think this thing is an amazing watch and I can see why it's so popular.
Now that I'm thinking of it I may just buy both and have 2 different looks

Completely agree w/ your assessment. Well Jody, IDK if you've seen it or not, (or if you're even interested) but Invicta have now "thrown their hats in the ring" on the traditional sized, stainless steel, integrated bracelet (Royal Oak esk) model trend, we've seen as of recent. These are part of their "Reserve Collection," so they should be made a little better than the average ("should" being the operative word there😄), and it's also part of their "Slim" line of models, w/ a thickness of just 7mm. They have a Ronda 1062 quartz movement in them, which I'd never heard of before. I didn't know that Ronda even made "ultra-thin" movements. Seems they're launching a whole range of these puppies, w/ diameters in both 42mm and 46mm. Some in all silvertone, some 2-tone, and some all yellow gold. Personally if I were to pick one up, I would grab the all silvertone version #41052. Just more my style. It looks as if they've taken most of the styling cues from the Tissot, "PRX," and oddly enough, maybe the crown from the Cartier, "Tank." The coin-edge style bezel maybe something you'd see on a flieger. Hope this helps. Cheers

There may be a pepsi bezel though I have not yet seen one.

I purchased mine around October/November last year (2022), the “Batman”, on the Invicta site for $60.00 USD, so I’ll guess it’s still not so hot. But it is sizzling hot for me. I use it with a Royal Blue nylon single pass nylon strap, or a Navy and Ehite striped G10, or a grey G10, very Admiralty. It’s beautiful. Reminds me of a Tudor Black Bay.

Just got the 1953 with the black bezel, because I think the black bezel gives it a more vintage look. Love the watch, but I can’t wear it yet, because I still have to get the bracelet re-sized!!

Owed this exact model and sold it because I rarely wore it. There’s nothing wrong with it, but it just didn’t stand out over my other watches enough to get wrist time.

I got a couple at the turn of the year from Invicta Europe. I got yellow boxes, and a yellow shopping bag. They have them again now, but they are 145 euros.

I have the original black bezel version of this watch. I bought it on a lark and to be honest I haven't been disappointed. For a sub-$100 watch it's got good specs and the build quality is better than I expected.

It looks like if you flick the case it would sound like an Altoid case. Glad to see it doesn't have Invicta engraved on every spare surface. They are doing much better now though. Good on them.

These models do remove some of the major objections watch enthusiasts have with the Pro Divers, mainly the etched "Invicta" case branding, and the overdone sweep second counter balance.

I have the San Martin and LOVE IT, except, I'm admittedly trying to go for Connery 6538, which has the bezel of this Invicta vs. the one included on the SN004. I know they both use NH35 drives, but but how practical would it be to do a movement swap on the two? Is there a significant difference in dial sizes being the case difference? I am new to modding, so any advice would be great. If this would not be a good mod, I will just let the sleeping dog lie and enjoy my SN004 as-is.
    Thanks!

Damn you Jody, I just (bought) one more watch.. used the voucher code CARTS and got an extra €5 off, so coming in at €94 euro delivered to Ireland, that can't be bad... chased the Original version awhile back without success so happy to take this one into my collection, same colour variant as your review, Had one invicta before but it was a grey pro diver quartz and it moved on quite quickly...
Any thoughts on Zepplin watches. Looking at on on creation, tempted but not very familiar with them?

I like this, but right at $100 now you can get the pro diver titanium version on amazon US. A titanium automatic for a c-note seems like a good deal that I would pick first.

While I can think of a half a dozen dive watches at the $100 or less price point that are as good or better (Steel Dive 1970 for example) I have to admit I really like this Invicta. If it was 42mm I'd have already bought one, or tried to anyway.

Pulsar make a very similar looking quartz diver for around £70 if you can’t bring yourself to wearing an Invicta - the pulsar wears beautifully at 40mm and being quartz it’s nice and slim

I bought this for $70 shipped just now. First invicta, curious to get my hands on it and see for myself.
What I’d like to share with many of these “save up and get this” comments is that you can Mod this etc and feel comfortable doing so. As an amateur watch enthusiast if I start getting $250+ pieces I would more than likely keep them as is.
    Just some open minded insight

This looks great. The absence of the engraved name on the side makes this way better than the prodiver. Change the handset to a snowflake and you got a Tudor? 😃
