shit tim donaghy would beg to differ quote “I was in Philadelphia and I am refereeing Sixers-Bulls. They were cracking down on the spin move that they wanted the officials to call traveling. Michael Jordan makes the spin move, I make the call. Phil Jackson comes off the bench and he starts giving me sh*t. I say, 'wait a second, Phil. You know as well as I do that's the spin move they're telling us to call.' And he said, 'while they might want that play called, they certainly don't want it called on him', and he pointed at Jordan who just walked by and stared at me. I got in the locker room, the other referee said, 'they want that call but don't want to on him.”

Are you kidding? MJ invented the legal travel. and had weak guards facing him in big games - mostly 1v1 with no zone defense. Ex, Danny Ainge, Dan Majerle, Craig Ehlo, Scott skiles, 175lb Kevin Johnson, etc. Dumars was ok, but the size of Steph curry and MJ lost to him lost of the time.

Jordan may very well be the goat/better player. I am a person who is really neutral on that topic. I would say that just because Jordan’s opponents in the finals won a lot of regular season games doesn’t make them just as competitive as the teams Lebron’s teams lost to. I feel like no team could ever beat the warriors teams with KD on them. Period. They are the goat juggernauts and they are weak for teaming up like that but no team is touching them in any era. So if the bulls would have had a chance to beat them and did, I would feel this way about Jordan, but I know they’d get punished like Everyone else who’d try to take on the 2 best shooters ever and the best 7 footer-ish ever in KD. And yes, he may be 6’11” but he is not 6’9” lol.

This is one of the most comprehensive videos I've ever seen on the Goat debate. I think one thing we can add to the eye test element is also how, just like at the end of the video, you see some of MJs circus shots, the outrageousness, the sheer poetry and elegance with which he plays. He's an artist and a killer rolled into one. Lebron's highlights are impressive too but they just don't have that wow factor that takes your breath away no matter how many times you watch it.
As for the longevity factor, it should be more about peak. Whose peak was higher.. Jordan accomplished more in a shorter period. If longevity is about who sustained his peak, then Lebron by right should have 10 championships. The fact he lasted at a high level longer than Jordan but probably only scratched the surface of MJs peak... That simply means MJ's peak was brighter higher stronger. That alone tells u something.
There is just no comparison. But here in this day and age people want their new basketball God and the most convenient guy and the guy who's always selling himself with his army of Nick Wrights and Shannon Sharpes... is that guy. And if you don't think Bron's the Goat, if you think he's number 2 behind MJ, wch is still high compliment but to his legions of rabid fans is unacceptable, then you're a hater. 💁🏻‍♂️

Nick McMurray if you’ve looked into anything about Wilt’s time you would know it was obvious that Russell was a better player. Coaches, analyst, and other players from that time say the same thing. Wilt isn’t even top 5

    • @nickmcmurray3130
      @nickmcmurray3130 3 ปีที่แล้ว +35

Lightnin I don’t really think it’s that obvious or simple. Russell was an incredible player and you could argue he was the most unselfish, most team oriented player of all time. And also the greatest rebounder and defender of all time. But Wilt just dominated too much for me not to consider him better. The fact is Russell played with better teammates and Wilt still took the Celtics to elimination games on multiple occasions. Wilt was a far better scorer, lead the league in rebounds more, played almost as good of defense, and even lead the league in assists one season, something no Center had ever done. And I believe that season the Sixers won 68 games, so it’s not like he was just doing it to stat pad, it actually lead to a really good winning record. Wilt holds more statistical records than anyone in history, while being a 2 time champion, a 4 time MVP, a Finals MVP, a 7 time scoring champion, ASG MVP, and won one of his MVPs as a rookie. Don’t mistake me for disrespecting Russell because I’m not. He’s the GOAT defender and was the most unselfish player in history. But Wilt was just different

The Bulls struggled in the first half of the season with a 23-25 record at the All-Star break.
Jordan faxed a memo that simply said "I'm back." Then The Bulls won 24 of their final 34 games, and finished the season with a 47-35 record, going 13-4 with Jordan back in the lineup.

Dude, I could've written this post. I have been a Magic fan since his MSU days, and a Laker fan since Kareem got there. But just like every other person who saw him play, I have never seen anything like Jordan. I died a little when Bulls got the Lakers back when.
And here's the thing... Lebron is a Laker, and I'm a Laker, so I'm no hater. Actually have enjoyed and admired his game since the beginning.
But Jordan? If you want the biggest, strongest guy who lasted the longest? Lebron. You want to win ? We know who tgat is.

Lebron has had the luxury of making team management trade everything they have (including future drafts) to get the teammates he needs to win while he's on that team. @@gargar5508 thank you! I'm a LeBron hater but they need to leave the man alone he's his own person, very unique style of playing the game and different approach to the game. Kobe tried to mimic Jordan and modelled his game after Jordan the only difference is Kobe lacks the freakish physical attributes such as the leaping ability of Jordan, inhuman stamina and his athleticism Kobe compensated what he lacked with heart.
As for LeBron is LeBron there hasn't been another LeBron before, I'm a Kobe die hard fan but LeBron is modern basketball GOAT.
Jordan was one of a kind but outside the court he wasn't disciplined with his money and liked gambling and had bad habits. Kobe was a basketball monk but his legacy was tarnished by that sexual accusation back in 2003. There's literally nothing bad said about LeBron that has compromised his character, no controversy no nothing the dude dedicates to his craft and family.
The difference between this 3 individuals is simple Jordan did everything effortlessly, he had that killer instinct but he wasn't a try hard like LeBron and even Kobe. Even when he was facing adversity's and had the odds against him Jordan kept his cool, always looked like he was in control and had fun with it. Kobe and LeBron at times look like they don't want to be in the court, frustration got the best of them, they are very calculative and monotonous. Jordan was a box of surprises and made it all look effortless and fun. That's the difference, even though he was playing his ass off and leaving if all in the court he was so ahead of the competition that it looked like fun. LeBron leaves it all in the court and it shows, he looked vulnerable at times same with Bryant Jordan showed no weaknesses in the court.

The crazy part is all these stats weren't avaliable at mj era and still he went out every game giving his best ... while nowadays players look at thier stats and thier personal accolades more than winning mentality

      That's nothing new.
Look at Wilt before he got to the Lakers (though he was STARTING to change a little with the 76ers under the ONLY coach to ever beat the Russell-era Celtics).

I still wondering why there even a discussion about this, I watch both of them play, there is no comparison at all.
Jordan was so quick, so fast, so smooth, his fade way was so beautiful, it was so satisfied watching him took off, dunks and all those unbelievable lay up. I remember watched jordan DVD with my nephews in 2001, they was like 9 or 10 years old back then, they were like amazed and want to play basketball after watched his DVD, even people who doesn't understand basketball will see him as a great and unbelievable player..

The main point is that the more you nitpick their history, the stronger the argument becomes in favor of Jordan. Great analysis, I thank the algorithm for showing you.

Criteria 6: Sportsmanship. If a player ever intentionally fakes an injury, foul or play in order to elicit a bad call by a ref, then he is disqualified from any consideration for greatest of anything. Sportsmanship is required of all sportsmen.
