I have always found the 50 series Flowmasters a little quiet anyway....40s for me have always been the sweet spot for both the BB and the SB Chevy. If you ever get the chance order the X pipe from Black Widow and add it to your system. It sounds straight evil...gives it more of a racing nascar sound...I love it...If you ever do anything Ford with a 302 the x pipe and Black widow 250s are one of the sweetest sounding exhaust notes I have ever heard. To me it sounded like those killer old-school sounding Foxbody exhaust from the early 90s but on steroids
Haha Neal is my exhaust guy as well. He’s the best around. Super cool guy. I’ll be taking my v8 ranger to him soon before the cruises start. Awesome video as always
Man both sound good but I still have to go with the Flowmaster - especially after seeing the drive-by. Flowmaster has a nice deep growl and the Widow has a clappy sound I don't like.
As a professional, I drive a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado LTZ equipped with a 5.3L V8 engine and a 3-inch single exhaust system. I have installed the Black Widow Venom 300 muffler on my vehicle. It is remarkable that there is no noticeable droning sound inside the cabin at any RPM range. However, it is important to note that under specific circumstances, such as flooring the throttle at 5,000 RPM while ascending an incline at 3 AM, the sound may be audible to individuals residing up to a mile away. Conversely, when cruising at 60 MPH with the cruise control engaged, the sound is virtually imperceptible. I have also experimented with various other mufflers, including the OEM stock, Dynomax Super Turbo, Walker Quiet Flow SS, and the Black Widow Venom 300. I am fascinated by the science behind mufflers and their impact on vehicle performance and acoustics. Happy muffling lol.
@@jasoncollins9081 thank you. I had always installed Flowmaster mufflers before and was accustomed to drone. It’s amazing that there is none at any RPM.
@BigRed_1980 Good day to you. The Chevrolet Silverado LTZ did not have a spring-loaded valve on its exhaust, and that feature was not introduced until 2014. When I drive through tunnels, the sound reverberates everywhere, which can be quite amusing. Have you had the opportunity to examine the interior of a Venom 300 muffler? It has four small holes, each approximately the size of a quarter. My exhaust specialist believes that this design could be one of the reasons why it does not produce a droning sound. I also suspect that the length of the muffler may play a role in this. Although I am not certain about the exact reasons, I will be trying a different muffler next week and will keep you informed about the results. Wishing you a joyous and safe Fourth of July!
In terms of muffler preferences, I highly recommend the Street Flow 3-chamber muffler manufactured by Team Allied. Its exceptional idle sound, remarkable quietness during cruising, and impressive roar at WOT make it an exceptional choice. The Black Widow Venom 300 is an amazing muffler; driving through tunnels or driving in parking garages to set off car alarms is a fun pastime to alleviate boredom, lol.
Great comparison! Thanks for video. Great job!I If u want loud...go with Black Widow. I ran Flowmaster Super 44's, because of the deeper tone and liked them except...when u dropped the hammer they were way too "wrappy". Hard to describe but let's just say it was very irritating. Nice truck you have!
Flowmaster 50 series are very quiet compared to the 40 series. These videos definitely have me wanting to try the black widows though. Been running flowmaster for years, wanna try a new sound.
Great video & very good comparison! I just bought a '74 Dodge Ramcharger w a 318LA in it that I am restoring. Currently having the original Carter 2 barrel carb being rebuilt (just to get it running again), but plan on going with new intake manifold w either 4 barrel Holley 650 double pump OR Sniper EFI (haven't decided yet). Previous owner put a set of 3" dual headers on it. Way down on my list is exhaust upgrade. Think the headers are fine, but needs new mufflers & pipes. Someone on one of the Ramcharger/Trailduster groups I'm in was asking about mufflers & several folks mentioned the Black Widow Venom 250s (which ed me here). I like the sound of them, but my RC isn't going to be a "performance" truck, just a weekend cruiser. Thinking I should go with the Flowmaster 40's or 50's. Between the 3, which one would you recommend based on what intake & engine I have? Nice truck by the way - cheers!
Sounds like you have a nice project going on there. I had the Flowmaster 50’s on my truck and I’m not a fan. I actually took one of them and replaced the muffler on my wife’s Tahoe as they are not loud at all. They are pretty mellow. If you like a little rumble get the 50’s. I also have Flowmaster 40 deltas on my BelAir with a 327 and a Holley sniper. I really like those. Check out my channel. I have a video about both the Holley sniper and the exhaust. They are not too loud but have a nice rumble. They sound especially good at high RPM’s. If your after a bit more volume then those I would go with the venom 250’s. They sound more raw than the flowmasters. I personally like the volume of these the best. They are not overly loud until you stomp on the skinny pedal😎. Also, zero drone with the Black Widows. I hope you have fun with your project.
Not going to lie as a huge black widow fan (running on both my cars) I think the flowmasters sound better at wide open throttle less poppy. i do want to swap out my widowmakers for the 250s though but with an x pipe

Those Widows sound really nice on that truck! I was hoping the black widows would be a little quieter than the 3 chamber flowmasters I have on my SBF stroker, as I get pulled over and harassed by cops a couple times a month. It has a pretty gnarly idle that shakes the mirrors on other cars. lol I have videos up if you're curious what flowmasters sound like on a 500+ hp SBF. Are the Black Widow 300s supposed to be a lot quieter than the 250s?
