Flowmaster 40 series Vs Black Widow Race Venoms, Stock 350 Chevelle ~Read description~

  • The flowmasters that were on my chevelle were put on by my pops in 1997 along with the full 2.5 inch aluminized steel exhaust. I was ready for a change in sound, and black widow caught my eye. Since the engine is stock, it doesnt exactly sound the greatest at Idle, but would sound godly on a cammed LS or Small block with higher comp.
    Ill have to give this point to black widow, because there is so little drone, that even the exhaust man thought it was amazing!

    I’m a Flowmaster man, always have been. The Black Widows sound like quieter straight pipe, and if that’s your thing, I’m sure you’re over the moon about them, but they’re a little too crackly and high-pitched for my taste. Maybe for a drag car or something, though. Cool that they’re not as droney as 40s, and I’m sure they flow better. I have Super 44s on both of my V8s (one pretty stock with long tube headers with high flow cats, one built pretty stout with a good cam, long-tubes, and no cats, both aluminum LS 5.3s) and they’re PERFECT and don’t drone much at all.
    Pretty nice old car, though, those aren’t usually in much of a shape. I had a nice-ish old S-3 Laguna for a little while back in probably 2006, no one ever knew what it was, haha!

      Mines been called a monte carlo, GTO grand prix LTD etc. I love it. IT sat for years with a blown engine and dad never had the money to fix it, but id always play in it. I chose it over a 87 trans am with a 400 ponti.
      The only reason I went with the widows was because they sound absolutely wicked on a cammed LS. The flowmasters were over 20 years old, and had been on the car as long as i can remember, I guess i was just ready for a change.

      Yes sir, totally with you on this bro., I run a 1985 ford f150 regular cab 4wd 351windsor. True duals. Flow tech long tube headers with two flow master super 10's single chamber mufflers. No h pipe, no y pipe. No cats either. Sounds better than even borla exhaust.

      @@mattisenberger4042 LOVE the sound of no-crossover duals on a carbureted V8. I don’t care if it makes less power and bottom torque, it just sounds RIGHT. For EFI, though, I prefer H- or X-pipes. Makes them sound even smoother than they already do. I have H-pipes on both my V8s, they sound great and I hear it improves throttle response and midrange torque, but I can’t say how true that is without extensive dyno tuning (I have Black Bear scan-cable tunes in them, which are probably close to the next best thing to chassis dyno tuning). If I had a carbureted motor, though, particularly a big-block, it’d be separate 3” duals with OG 40-series.

    I love the snap crackle pop sound the black widows gave the car. They sound louder in the video though than the flowmaster 40s. Are they just louder outside of the car because they aren't droning like a flowmaster does and feel quieter from inside the car? I've had cherry bombs that were that way. Not much noise in the car but way louder outside of the car.

    • @metalhealth12
      @metalhealth12  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      well, that all depends on you, and the car. For instance, My car is now an LS1 with a .553 lift 109 LSA cam, with the dual race venoms, full exhaust, and an H pipe, let me tell you, its probably the most unique sounding car ive ever heard, They are a smaller muffler thats loud when you give it beans, but quiet enough at an idle to still hear the radio. I like the race venom because there is almost no drone. But if your not wanting to piss off the entire neighborhood, id look at the venom 250s or 300s. Maybe even a set of borla xr1 mufflers.
      If your wanting to do it right with a classic deep rumble, Go for a full exhaust mufflers of your choice, with an H pipe . an H pipe gives you low end torque and a good deep rumble. If you wanted an X pipe, it would sound alittle more high pitched, like a race car, sort of. I like Black Widow, but that might not be your taste, id look at borla, SLP, Corsa. if you call borla, and tell them what you're trying to do, they'll custom make you an exhaust, and they are an American made company

    Just so you know, "true duals" and "H-pipe" conflict with each other. "True duals" means there is no crossover, X-pipe, H-pipe, Y-pipe or otherwise. Two completely uninterrupted exhaust pipes going from one side's collector to the tip or dump without interacting with the other pipe.

      These mufflers are the kind that give you the exact sound of your engine. so if youre running a stock 350, 302, 351, or whatever, then thats the sound youre gonna get, at rpm they sounded good on the 350, but at an idle they made it sound like a tractor. I have since swapped the weak 350 with a cam and headers ls1 engine, they really wake the car up and give it a different sound with no noticeable drone. I have the videos on a different channel

    Do not put the terms "true dual" and "H pipe" together. True duel is both exhaust sides NEVER meet. Its either true dual or not

    • @metalhealth12
      @metalhealth12  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That doesn't even make sense my guy,
      The H pipe crossover is there to help with exhaust gas scavenging, evening out the flow between the pipes and getting exhaust gas out of the engine faster and more efficiently
      True dual means that each cylinder head has its own exhaust tube for exhaust gasses, and has nothing to do with the pipes 'meeting' when you have installed a crossover
      If you are running a dual exhaust with no cross over then you are only robbing yourself of performance gains, They will be small, but gains are still gains

    • @christcarscountry6870
      @christcarscountry6870 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@metalhealth12 Sorry homeboy, shootermcgavin may have put it like a dick, but he is right.
      By your logic, every V-style engine is automatically true dual, as every V-style engine has two cylinder heads and thus must have it's own manifold or headers to connect to the exhaust. That would make the term pointless and redundant because it is implied if something is a V8, V6, or otherwise. This is not the case.
      True dual means that a car truly is dual exhaust, where the two exhaust pipes are separate systems as opposed to sharing flow and gasses. The term is universally used this way, as you will commonly hear someone ask "What kind of crossover does it have?" and the response will be: "Oh, no it's true duals."
      Never have I heard the term used to describe the unavoidable necessity of using pipes to direct exhaust out of the BOTH of a V8's cylinder heads.
      And yes, 9 times out of 10 true duals lack performance, but there is also a certain pride people take in the change in sound when running a completely disconnected "true" dual exhaust, hence why the very positive sounding word "true" is used instead of naming them "slow pipes" or something. True duals completely isolate the sound of both cylinder banks, thus creating a choppier, more percussive sound. This isn't to say true duals sound better, but people appreciate the different sound offered by true duals just the same as they appreciate the different sound offered by open headers, side pipes, stacks, etc.
