Tried it and it's delicious! I'm so used to putting in a bunch of spices and I expected this to be less flavourful because you only use a couple but boy was I wrong! Swapped that saffron for turmeric and loved it. Great!

I am so happy to find this recipe as my 48 year old son just told me on the phone that he misses the yellow soup with potatoes and garbanzos that he remembers from when we lived in Spain... and guess what... we moved from Spain when he was 7 years old and he still remembers that soup!... Actually, you can make a chickpea stew out of everything. I'm from Spain and we make it with cod and spinach, with chorizo, with vegetables, with garlic and paprika... you can eat it with everything.
And while it's true you can get very good canned chickpeas, I think you really get the best flavour and texture by buying them dry. All you gotta do is soak them in hot water at least 12 hours before cooking, and let them cook for 2-3 hours without letting them stop boiling, starting to cook the chickpeas with lukewarm water.

I'm cooking this right now, following every step. Thank you again for another gorgeous meal, the smell in my kitchen is driving everyone nut's, all I can hear is "when will it be ready, Dad?". I resisted the urge to tamper with the ingredients and I'm only adding garlic & thyme croutons'.
    This tastes heavenly...Thank you.

Looks very delicious indeed. Very similar to a northern moroccan stew, though we use a bit less water so the jus gets to be a lot thicker. Of course both countries have influenced each other very much throughout history

Moroccan and Spanish grandmothers, as well as those from other Medierranean countries, were the queens of vegetarian and vegan cuisine, long before its health benefits were even suspected. They made do with with the vegetables and legumes they had on hand and skilfully used seasonings and aromatic herbs to give their stews their personal touch of flavour. Meat, chicken and even fresh fish were luxuries reserved por special occasions. Affectionate greeting from Spain.

Hi Albert, wishing you a very happy New Year and positivity for a much much better 2021! Just wanted to let you know that I’m really digging your channel, have shared it with many friends, and this recipe in particular is my #1 favorite...
I’ve made it at least 5-6 times already and the whole family absolutely loves it! I’ve traveled and cooked professionally for many years in my younger days and that said, I must admit that I went a little rogue the last few times I’ve made it... always doubling the recipe, adding 2 round Tbs of capers, 1+ Lbs of chopped tilapia and/or trout (at the last few minutes of cooking time) and tonight, I added 2 cups of finely chopped wild winter kale, that I picked while out for a walk today.
Thanks so much for the inspiration and your positive vibes. So needed in these crazy times. All the best and looking forward to checking out more soon. John

Thanks man. I love this dish, you'll find a Greek version on one of their islands. Only difference was the herbs used and their love of thickening it slightly by blitzing a portion and re-adding it which doesn't make it thick...just sort of delicious and gloopy.

What spices are used in the Greek version?

Fantastic! I made it for dinner this evening. Added lemon on the plate for everyone to squeeze if they wanted. Also served your kidneybean with veggie purée. Added some chilli only, it’s cold here in Sweden now so just some warmth. Thank you so much!

I made this last weekend, and it was delicious. I did not use as much garlic but added onion powder and garlic powder. I am allergic to tomatoes, so I substituted sliced black olives. It was amazing. Thank you so much. This weekend I am cooking the Authentic Spanish Vegetable Paella dish. I am hooked.

Thanks so much for your recipes! I learned to make cocidos from a woman coming from Andalucia. I usually order the bone of a ham at the butchers (I live in Germany, and they mostly give it away free of cost) and add it to the stew (...take it out of the pot a couple of minutes before the stew's ready). This gives a nice flavour to it. It's not a vegetarian stew adding this bone, but maybe someone wants to try it out.

I just came across this video and loved this recipe. I’m planning to make it but I will substitute the yellow potato for sweet potato and the water for chicken broth. I love to learn recipes from other countries and give them my own little twist. I subscribe to your channel because I really like the way you present your recipes. Thank you and keep up the good job!
