    great idea about getting an old fender to try your skills out 1st. Just rebuilt a 93 Chevy truck mechanically. Now that old flaked off clear coats gotta go. Needs a better flake or pearl to top it off.
    You used all 3 primers once and shot some gold flake on it all. Red primer looked the best.
    I think a fender/section at a time might work for me.

    good video, glad to see you pushing hardener, nothing more frustrating then finding out a week later that your paint still hasn't cured, as far as clear goes, i'm one of those old school pearl of white dudes but to each his own. i watched a video the other day about a no sanding buff pad that takes out orange peal, think it's called denim pad and it's on amazon, thought it might be something you might want to check out, getting rid of orange peal without wet sanding is the holy grail of painting.....

    I've seen you do a bunch of different oranges with pearl in the past but i was wondering if you'd consider trying out a dark red orange. I have a Porsche 944 i need to repaint and my plan is to aim for an orange similar to the Pagani Volcano Orange and would love to see what you would do for that with Rust-Oleum

So, you did not have any problems with the hurricane? We have thought about moving to your state, Nevada has become infested with Californians. I love the dry heat, but that's about it now. I loved the radical part of NV but that is gone. I live way out Pyramid Highway and there was not hardly anything out here. Looks great. I really like the Patina look on my car however it is time to address the finish. It's a real old driver and if it's a little lumpy and bumpy that's fine. I would like to do a low shine finish but would like to add a little interest with some pearl effects. I don't necessarily want flat paint but a low gloss and like I said use some pearl in the clear. What would you recommend for the Rust-Oleum route? I think the safety blue as a flat/semi-gloss would be cool.

    • @WHITLEYAUTOWORKS
      @WHITLEYAUTOWORKS  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah they make a bunch of colors in either matte or satin finish and you could always get finish one 2K urethane clear in satin or matte finish if you want to add some protection to it or turn a gloss color into a matte or satin color

    Thanks so much for this video. You answered most of my questions. I havent done paint and bodywork in over 30 years. So how long does that paint, reducer and hardener last in your paint gun? If you do a light coat and then 2 more coats that puts you right close to an hour. Do you just shake your gun around to mix it a bit before you spray the next coat?

    • @WHITLEYAUTOWORKS
      @WHITLEYAUTOWORKS  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes it last a good while an hr or so after mixing it starts to harden up some really depends on the temperature tho. Obviously if you don't add the hardener you have a lot longer but I say just mix it up as you go thanks for watching

      @WHITLEYAUTOWORKS  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's not completely necessary when using pearls or flakes mostly I've been showing people how to do things the easiest and cheapest way possible however a midcoat can give you advantages such as a more consistent finish and more control over saturation we have used them a couple of times in certain episodes to spray candy experiments but I do plan on doing more with it in future videos so stay tuned Thanks for watching

    • @WHITLEYAUTOWORKS
      @WHITLEYAUTOWORKS  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's a good question honestly when you're doing two tones and doing the pearls that way your best to give it a day to harden up then go back wet sand with 600 grit tape everything off spray your other color and then unmask everything and shoot the pearl clear over everything while the second color is still tacky after about 45 minutes to an hour Thanks for watching

    Yup. I'm convinced. The paint industry is a scam. That would be a head turner on any street and with a little more work a show car finish. Makes it even harder to justify paying 5 or 6 hundred dollars for a gallon OEM color matched paint. I'm curious how strong the finish is once fully cured and whether that is mostly about the strength and hardness of the 2k clear. Even a quarter teaspoon is a lot of pearl. Amazing how little is needed for a subtle effect. I'm going to have to play with a bumper for a while to get that figured out.

    • @WHITLEYAUTOWORKS
      @WHITLEYAUTOWORKS  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You're exactly right a gallon of base coat at the store I work at is right at $800 now but it's all about prep and the 2K clear for the most part dictates how long the paint holds up. As far as pearls and everything else goes it's all about how creative you want to get with creating something cool. Thanks for watching
