those subreddit comments remind me of a youtubeargument i had in the last week with somebody about easy mode in dark souls. his main argument was ''watch good video essays on the subject why youre wrong, for example the one from eyebrow cinema''. i then watched the video (actually a good video to be fair, but 1 hour long) and found it wasnt really disagreeing with my arguments, differentiated between accessibility and approachability and stated very clearly that theres room for valid disagreement on the topic and this was just his personal opinion.
returning with these findings he told me to watch more videos and still wouldnt name any specific points why i was wrong, cuz all those videos would explain it. actually mindboggling debate culture, maybe fostered by people like vaush and hasan ducking every difficult conversation.

Just remember - they're mostly all just a bunch of dumb "kids" in the grand scheme of things. 22 and below. Resenting their lives. Stressed to fuck. Identity crises. I see Destiny's arc across the years going the same direction mine did. You grow up. You get wiser. You question things. (if you're decently intelligent) You refine your principles. Frankly, you firm up your liberalism, and even adopt some goalposts from the center and right. Why? Because you learn all the 'correct' answers or 'best' answers aren't all on the left. As the kids keep going more extreme into the far-left echo chamber, Destiny appears to be going right in their view. His logic and nuance, maturing intellect, and correct takes don't compute to these kids. They're like me when I was 20. I get it. They are a brick wall, and cannot be changed. They need to live through it, and look back in 15 years and chuckle at themselves. Like I did. Boy was I an idiot.
Destiny is only getting better and wiser, which is natural to expect. But these kids will never understand that. They truly believe that out of high school or in university, that at age 20-23, they are the most rational wisest grounded informed humans they will ever be - and they want power now to change anything and everything - and resent "boomers" and 30-somethings+ who are standing in their way. Like little Greta Thumbergs - they believe "shame on you" to ALL of us... little do they know, by the time they reach 40+ and have levers of power high enough to move society... THEY will be completely different and will have long shed their little smartass revolutionary skins. They'll be 40+ and tamping down the crazy 20 year olds coming up the ladder underneath them. I suppose this always happened across the centuries... except this current period was the FIRST and ONLY that did it with an internet and social media to connect them all together. It wasn't good for them. They are wayyyyyy freakier than I remember being. A cult, really. They have fallen for, and believe things that no activist liberals (LGBT or otherwise) ever claimed 30 years ago. Like I said, it's supercharged now. There is no "live and let live, plus tolerance" .... it's "everybody must live MY way and believe MY things". Now colorblindedness is no longer an endgame with racism. Now it's perpetual systemic oppression we cannot see or point a finger at... everybody white is racist... and CRT is a religion escaped well beyond law studies. Now we have intersectional theory. Now we have gender theory. Now we have queer theory.
It's NOT that I am a "dinosaur" that cannot absorb new information. Like any rationalist atheist liberal, I assess with facts & wisdom before adopting anything. Almost EVERYTHING in the "new/far left" is riddled with flaws, is far from correct, and in fact backward, wrong, and regressive. Illiberal. Land mines for the rational liberal west as we know it, if we completely adopt these things. I'm old enough to be wise enough to see the flaws, and young enough to hopefully be a beacon against this stuff for the next 30-40 years. These kids simply know not what they do. I just find it staggering how much power and influence society (and corporations) are giving to those 25 and under theses days. About the first topic: Genuinly I said this before and Ill say it again, here in germany you could literally found a 17 year old together with a 23 year old and no one would care. And that primarily cause no one literally knows what age they look like. I work in retail and I sometimes have kids who I think are like 10 that are 15. I had a girl who was 17 wanting to buy something and she looked like 13. There is a reason why in each store that sells alcohol we have signs up that tell you to have your ID ready if you wanna buy stuff and are young cause we cant tell how old you are.

Yes, pedophilia refers to sexual attraction to prepubescent children, generally 0-10.
Hebephilia is the attraction to young adolescents going through puberty, so around 11-13, and Ephebephilia is the attraction to adolescents in mid/late stage puberty, so ~14-16.
Obviously theres a bit of give and take depending on when puberty actually starts and ends, as there are girls as young as 9 who start puberty, secondary sex characteristic growth and all. These terms also only apply to people older than 16, at least in terms of clinical diagnosis, so for ex. a 15 year old attracted to 9 year olds isn't technically a pedophile (even tho they likely will be in adulthood)
But as with most psychological terminology, the colloquial use of the word gets watered down and muddled, and trying to tell anyone that an adult who is attracted to a 17 year old isn't a pedophile would just get you called one yourself.

One thing that wasn't brought up was how much labels like pedophile serve a kind of intentional out-grouping that protects the ego. It's a kind of 'I would never' effect, where the more they essentialize the label (with the implication that they are distant from it) and engage in performative beat downs of anyone they deem to fit it, the more they gain a sort of 'reverse label' where they are safe from earning it themselves. "I kill pedophiles because I'm not one" and all that.
This is why it's important to show receipts because the only thing this causes is letting abusers and predators bank off of the dilution of these words to finger point any one calling them out until anyone watched doesn't know who is in the wrong. That smokescreen of confusion just allows them to continue their ways [See: Demonmama].
That's how you get shit like calling out full context shit takes being dismissed as clip chimping, actual manipulative and abusive behavior being dismissed as "no u", actual creepy messages towards minors and simps as "not a pedophile though".
Shows how important it is to have full explanation/compilation videos of certain topics to bring everyone up to speed that challenges anyone being called out in them to show the context they claim will redeem them from the obvious throughline that is present in those compilation videos. He talked about how that made him uncomfortable and upset. And at the end of the post, he threw in his opinion that if he was a 19 yo, he wouldn't even find 18 YOs attractive.
