Another main difference between 5 & 6:
IONIQ5 needs "Low Conductivity Coolant" replacement every 35,000 miles or 4 years which is costing $700 - $1000 and IONIQ6 does not need that.
This is a deal breaker for so many IONIQ 5 buyers!
Ooooh good one!!
That seems overly expensive.
Was not aware of that. Great info.
不知道在其他國家是否也是同樣設計
I'm currently leasing a 2020 Ioniq. Very restrictive on range. I do a lot of road trips, so I'm looking forward to trying the Ioniq 6 when my lease is up next year. The 20" wheels come with a big range hit, so I understand switching them out for the 18" Loved your comparison review!
I'm currently in the process of filming a comparison range test with 18-in wheels and tires... Stay tuned! And please consider subscribing 😊
I think I would pick the 5 for the height and room/comfort but the 6 look sporty and nicer looking.
Thanks for the comment!
I had the 5 and sold it for the 6.
Great decision!
The 6 is soooo much more efficient and rly comfortable but dynamic as well.
The best of a really comfy sedan and a sportscar in one car combined.
Space is still enough for our needs.
We have passengers very often and they love it. My friend is 1,85m and can sit like a king in the font.
I transported my bike in the trunk of the 6 and it worked out very good.
I love it.
The 5 did a great job as well so for families it's the better choice all in all
Right on!
Thx for the comment!
@lutz_utz-utz really? I’m currently doing the opposite. I LOVE my Limited 6, it’s a great car but I have no cargo space. Looks like I’d lose 10 miles of range going to the 5. I’m hearing the 5 is a bouncier ride. Do you still have an opinion now owning both?
Ioniq 5 was the first E-GMP car designed, I've heard that initially it was planned to have separate oil cooling that is the reason for the remnant of separate cooling loop that needs scheduled maintenance. Can't speak on which is a better design, but given that the next iterations got rid of the second loop and that on Ioniq 5 the scheduled maintenance on it is quite costly - it might not be the better of the two designs after all.
You could be right.
Though I do like the idea of not having to use already hot coolant to then cool down the motor, or battery.
However, I prefer the simplicity of the i6
Hi Ed - Thanks for the comprehensive video comparison. I’m about to make a jump from an X3 ICE to the Ioniq 6 in the next few weeks and am also going to go for the Nocturne Grey Metallic Paint. My question for you, what did you do to your lower grey trim to convert into the black gloss? Was it wrapped or painted and what did you do to adopt the orange pinstripe detailing? Big thanks from Scotland!
Thanks for the comment!
I got the bottom wrapped in piano black vinyl. Then bought the orange pinstripe on Amazon and applied that myself in about 20 minutes. First I cleaned the area with isopropyl alcohol.
It's holding up great!
@@edsgarage001 Hi Ed - Thanks for the prompt comment. One other question I have that I’ve been struggling to find information on is, does the Hyundai Sat Nav maps have live traffic overlaid on them (green for no / amber for slight / red for heavy congestion). This is something that BMW Maps have enabled at all times helping you to plan your drive home without needing to have a route plan enabled.. any insight would be useful?
Yes, it actually gets traffic data from both hd audio and bluelink.
@@edsgarage001 thank you again - really appreciated!
If I could get a 6 in the config I want I’d buy one in a heartbeat. Too many black interior cars here.
I love my light interior....
Have to admit, instead of an Ioniq 6 Limited in Transmission Blue I would have gone with the Red but did not want a black interior. Don't get me wrong I love my Transmission Blue and would never trade it for a Tesla!! Hyundai has done a great job on the "6" 5:48 5:49
I picked mine specifically because the interior color 🙂
The range is the most important feature for me since I do a lot of highway driving. I am also curious about the range in subzero temperatures. (I do own a newer Palisade so I don’t need the extra size of the 5.) I will be replacing our other car in 2 or 3 years, so hopefully the infrastructure for charging improves by then.
See my playlist "charging across the continent"
9500 miles pulling a trailer across Canada and the USA.
The infrastructure isn't perfect, but it's good enough for the moment, and getting better.
Hyundai is one of the best for cold weather range as they're one of the few companies actually using a heat pump as standard in these EVs.

Great comparison. I got the ioniq 6 yesterday right away & don’t even look at the 5. It’s a great ev. Both actually
Thanks for the comment! Congrats!
Great comparison as always Ed. The Ioniq 6 (with the 18" wheels) either AWD or the RWD is VERY efficient. We are tooling around Southern BC (mostly on #3) and getting low 14's efficiency in the AWD. Easily getting 315-330 miles on the highway. We haven't taken the Coquihalla yet . . . hopefully very soon. I finally saw an Ioniq 5 on the highway the other day and it's a little MEH, at least overtaking from the back. The I6 is not MEH. Yes, the I5 has the storage space, etc., but the I6 has plenty of interior room if needed. Now if ONLY HYUNDAI BROUGHT MORE IONIQS INTO CANADA!!!! There are mega waiting lists almost everywhere for the I5.
I agree with everything you said.
My 18-in wheels actually just got delivered to my house about 20 minutes ago, I'll be getting them put on soon and doing a comparison range test with them on. I'm wrapping them in Continental eco contact 6, which are the lowest rolling resistance tires I could find, after a whole lot of researching lol.
@@edsgarage001 That should be informative. There are a lot of I6 owners with the 20" wheels who are looking to do the same thing. I would like to see a local range test of the RWD Ioniq 6. It seems that other range tests have been a little disappointing and, unlike the AWD 18", the RWD is not getting it's expected range.
I'll be doing the test next week
Test drove both of them, and both are great driving cars. I preferred/took the Ioniq 6. I don't mind the smaller trunk opening and I generally -don't like- -dislike- *hate* the SUV drivers position. Only thing I would have loved in the 6 was the augmented HUD, which is nice. Would really miss the matrix led on the 5 though ;-)
I could have written your comment.... 💯 Agree
Do either the 5 or 6 come with the calf support seat for the front passenger?
Not in North America unfortunately.
In Canada the 6 doesn't get it in either seat. Not sure about USA.
But the ioniq 5 has it on the driver's side
Helpful video!
Thx for commenting!
I love my 6. In the US the range on the SEL trim isn't quite as good but the car is a fun drive.
Thanks for the comment!
I'd definitively like the lower seating position in the 6, however I can't go without the cargo space of the 5. Optically I like em both.
Good points!
Beautiful i6 ? Did u paint or wrap black the rockers? Thanks
Thanks!
Wrapped. Then applied the vinyl pinstriping as well.
Ioniq 6 with its 0.22 Cd rating. Almost the lowest drag rating on the market. This is why it gets 610 km range.
It's One of the reasons I chose the 6 😊
In Quebec, all trims are allowed for provincial and fédéral subventions. Hard to understand that it is not the same in B.C.
In BC, they're all eligible for the federal rebate... Just not the provincial rebate.
I drive an EV6 and the interior is virtually identical to these.
Yeah there's a lot of similarities... But each definitely have their own style.
6 because I like being lower to the ground. The understand the SUV obsession
Agreed 😊
I like your vids!
I like your comments! 😁
Burning question. How do you activate the patterned light display on the Ioniq 6??
You don't.
The pattern that it plays back is interior only and it just does it on its own when you shut the car off.
Nothing happens on the outside. That's only on South Korean models
Currently have a year left on my 2021 Hyundai Ioniq EV Limited. Great car for commuting and lease payment is super cheap and I have a back-up ICE Volvo for trips. For me the Ioniq 6 would be the choice if the lease works out in the Fall of 2024. I also preordered a 2025 Volvo EX30 as well. It's $15k less than the Ioniq 6 Limited for a lot of the the same features that my 2021 Hyundai Ioniq Limited has. I'm thinking Volvo though if the efficiency is decent, but it is an SUV.
Thx for the comment!
I would get the ioniq 5 i need that thing where you stand behind the tailgate for 3 seconds and it opens. Also my device has USBa.
The ioniq 6 has a smart trunk too... And the stereo connection is still USB A
@edsgarage001 well I also need more cargo
@@janetshabani-qu7hq ioniq 5 it is!
Hi, tumbs up for your videos😊 I am just wondering what is the smart watch you are wearing?
Thanks
Hey thanks!
It's the awatch gt... Got it direct from China lol. It runs Android and has its own sim card slot so it can be used as a cell phone.
But it's older now. I'm probably going to replace it within the year
Actually Ed it looks like a smart clock! Damn that thing is huge!😅😅😅
I am just teasing...looks pretty cool!
Mike
😆😆
the ioniq 6 rn is honestly my little dream car lol. Can't wait to finish my engineering degree and pick up one in the future, it's crazy how much hyundai has stepped there game up. my grandpa back in the early 2000's always talked of them as the sort of cheap, point a to b vehicle that is just plastic on wheels. Now, they actually have distinctive cunning styling, more reliability, and significantly better build quality. Also super competitive pricing
Thanks for the comment!
I couldn't agree more!
Ed, do you know the difference in weight from the 20" to 19" wheels on Ioniq 5? The 19" should be lighter but can't find out how much?
And thanks for a detailed review of both cars.
I'm sorry no,
I can tell you that my EV01+ 18" and ecocontact 6 tires and wheels are 19 pounds lighter then my Ioniq 6's 20" oem wheels/tires
@@edsgarage001
I saw your review of the FAST wheels so thought you may have weighed the 19" Ioniq wheels at work.
Thanks Ed
Sorry no, I haven't been able to
@@djscandelaIoniq. Not Ionic.
I tested both cars and I ended up buying the 6. It is more comfortable and more dynamic in my opinion.
And the lane keep assist is much, much more annoying in the 5 and that was a deal breaker for me
Good choice
Quick question:
Will Hyundai adopt the NACS (TESLA) connector in Canada ?
that would make the Ioniq 6 and route planner so much better
and probably insure the Charging network stay well maintain ?
No idea...
Though it would be pretty cool.
There's a company currently product testing a Tesla to CCS adapter that may get us there a bit faster. Hopefully we can eventually all share the Tesla network.
I get over 300 miles , most of it highway with my ionic 5. I really think the 6 looks like a cat fish, horrendous design imo, i like the rear a lot, the front ruins it for me. The looks of the ionic 5 ate just something else,
Hey don't knock my car lol 😆
To each their own. Personally I like them both, but prefer the 6.
The design of the 6 was to maximize aerodynamic efficiency, and it works. It's the most aerodynamic EV under $100,000
Ioniq *
I choose Tesla model 3 performance
You chose wrong
@@edsgarage001 says the guy that doesn’t have one. Model 3 performance destroys Hyundai’s line up in performance, handling and software, and let not forget plenty of stock in Australia unlike Hyundai that can even sell 100 units a month of this car, because they can’t make them quick.
Says the guy who doesn't have a Hyundai i5 or i6 🤷
I've actually been formally trained on the i6 vs the model 3.
Sure the m3 performance has better performance capabilities, but that's pretty much it. The m3 didn't win world car of the year, world EV of the year and world design of the year like both the i5 AND the i6.
The build quality of the i6 is miles ahead of the m3 , sorry, but that's fact.
Plus,
-800v architecture means way way faster charging
-actual leg from in the back (the i6 is significantly larger) the m3 backseat is tiny.
-lots of easily accessible physical buttons
-a head up display AND an instrument cluster
-a forward facing camera to add to the surround view monitor
-a sunroof that opens and has a power shade
-a quick disconnect for the high voltage system that can be simply reconnected so you don't have to buy a new harness like in the m3
-let's not even discuss the price difference 😆
If it wasn't the better car, then pretty much every reviewer wouldn't be agreeing that it is.
@@edsgarage001 who said I didn’t? Assumptions are the mother of all F$&k ups, are u a f$&k up?
TOTALLY agree Ed...the M3 is a decent car and has a lot of cool "techie" features but I do not want all my stuff done on a distracting touch screen! Plus the loo,s of the Ioniq6 (and I5) beat the daylights out of any of the Tesla models.
Now that being said Tesla had done a lot for EV adoption, their charging network is excellent but I would never buy one!
We LOVE our Ioniq5 Ultimate AWD and the Ioniq6 is extremely cool...and because we put over a 1000km a week on our car we get to know them very well and very quickly!
Thanks for your videos! Great job!
