Hyundai's slippery IONIQ 6 saloon re-sets the EV segment standard for aerodynamics. Jonathan Crouch drives it.
    Ten Second Review
The race is on to create the most streamlined passenger EV - and here's Hyundai's contender, the IONIQ 6, which slips through the air at just 0.21Cd. The result is a possible 338 mile range that beats many obvious rivals. And brings this saloon counterpart to the IONIQ 5 right into contention if you're looking at cars like the Polestar 2 and the Tesla Model 3.
Not long ago, the most interesting choices you could make if you wanted a cutting-edge mid-sized plush electric vehicle were all conventional SUVs. Now, you could argue that it's more avant-garde to choose something far less obviously of the Crossover genre. Three of the segment's most advanced contenders - the Tesla Model 3, the Polestar 2 and this IONIQ 6 - all take that route. All three cars are interesting, forward-thinking and innovative - but for very different reasons.
That Hyundai can compete on equal terms against competitors of this calibre says a lot for how far the company has come over the last few years. The brand has seized the EV revolution as a chance to reinvent itself and cars like this IONIQ 6 are doing just that. The trumpeted 384 mile range figure is dependent on so many caveats that few owners will ever achieve it, but the possibility of a regular 300 mile range reading is real enough - and that's a step forward for this segment. So is the IONIQ 6.

Very thorough review! Too bad the UK does not get the 18" wheels because they are around 15% more efficient than the 20" wheels. Our AWD Ioniq 6 with 18" in good weather gets @380 miles in combined town/highway driving while pure highway here in mountainous BC, Canada gets us a range of between 320-30 miles. The 18" wheels might give a better ride too! At least that is the feedback from a fair amount of users.

Always a good in depth video for anyone looking tk buy a car. They do dwelve in deeper to detail and options available.
None of those unnecessary gimmicks like burn outs etc.
Always say this channel should be bigger than it is

The variation in model types, standard specs, and options available varies quite markedly in the UK from what is available in Australia. I have ordered the RWD 'Dynamiq' version and much of what you describe as only available in the 4WD version is actually in the RWD, but then other things are not. Th details of many of the safe driving assist controls and warnings are really quite amazing and something I was not aware of (eg. warnings about approaching cyclists when doors are to be opened. corner blindspot radar warnings and braking, and traffic-queue start-off warnings). Hopefully these will be present in my Australian purchase, just ordered. Waiting with anticipation.

What an exhaustive review! Thank you!
We have already ordered (with the digital mirrors 😊) but in Sweden we will likely wait for minimum of a year. Love this car - my first and only new car 🎉😊

very thorough review.. gotta check 2C if my I6 Limited has a heads up display .. so many features, so many toys to play with.. BOSE sound is awesome!.. 2200 miles of sheer pleasure so far.. looked at the others & made this buy based on Tesla residual value which is horrible, the us selling dealership did suck though.. they put their least experienced guy on these sales.. .good luck eating on your sales dude!!

Give me a Fisker Pear any day of the week!! Instead of the standard roof, it should have solar panels to keep the battery in good form.

Really got fed up of the continuous flashes of the pictures of an Ioniq 5 every time you mention it. Also you say that Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are wireless - they are not. I wish people who review things could do their research properly. In the charging bay you say there are TEN illuminating pixel squares - there are NOT, it really is simple to count the FOUR lights that there actually are.You CAN'T open the boot with a swipe of your foot! it automatically opens when you stand behind the car for a few seconds. How do I know all this? I own an Ioniq 6! Also, it's not just EVs that come with a tyre inflation kit rather than a spare wheel these days - most new cars are the same. I'm sorry but there are so many inaccuracies in your review that I stopped watching less than halfway through!

Darren, don't get your blood pressure up.. To be fair, some of these ionic 6 have come with the updated software that has enabled wireless android auto.
They only showed the ionic 5 about 3-4 times

At 45thousand Dollars Hyundai keeps those prices up going to put themselves out of Business and the company doesn't want to adhere to their warranty 😢

45:20 - the RWD model with 77 kWh battery is 381 miles (614 km) not 338 miles. And the Polestar 2 is hardly any better if it gets just 395 miles in RWD with 82 kWh battery. At a price that is considerably higher than the Ioniq 6 you get barely 15 miles more range with a bigger battery! Undoubtedly due to the Polestar's really poor aerodynamics.

338 miles is on 20 inch wheels which is all you get in the UK. Other countries with 18 inch wheels get the extra range.

The 6 has none of the design sharpness of the 5 and is a put off from the start for me, too flabby for my tastes and might age really quickly.

    • @petesig93
      @petesig93 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

What you call "design sharpness" I call unnecessary creases. I personally love the sleek looks* of the Ioniq 6. That is why I have ordered one.
      * Prime factor in the 0.22 Cd and 614 km range for my RWD variant.
