I’ve got a “Remlin” 1895 Dark. Built Dec 2020. Quality is fine. No issues with it. I think there’s been a lot of hysteria about bad quality Remins. Yes, there were some in the early years when they were taken over, but the later made ones are fine.

I asked my shop back in 2015 to put this gun on the wish list for me. It took 8 years but I finally got to bring it home Thursday. I paid $1,600 for it, for a while there I started to think I’d never get one as prices shot up super crazy for a while. Now I’m happy I got one of the Ruger made ones as the quality is top notch.

It was in “Wind River” way before any of the Jurassic Park films

Excellent review. You are very fortunate to get in early on this rifle. There is a big wait. Sort of like when they rolled out the Ruger Precision rifle. Great presentation!

I believe Marlin was the first to do the "tactical" thing to their lever guns with their Dark series, before Henry did their X series, and Rossi with their Triple Black series. I have an 1895 Dark myself, and it's my favorite gun in my collection.
Another note: the 1895 SBL was also used by Jeremy Renner's character in "Wind River."

Long before the Dark series they did SBL 16 inch barrel

Yes, Jeremy did use that rifle, but pre the changes made with Ruger. I bought the 1895 SBL and had a one-year wait on it a couple of years ago. The screw holding my stock to the receiver worked its way out, so I called Marlon / Ruger to replace it., as of this day of today 2023 there were no parts available, no warranty no support of any kind for the 1895 SBL with a serial starting with MR. The newer ones as stated start with an RM. The fact that Ruger ended it's support for a rifle still viable is irresponsible. I have other Ruger firearms and I think they're wonderful, however in this case of the now 'Marlin' Ruger, they weren't thinking about the people that owned the pre Ruger 1895's. I got mine new only two years ago, and as far as I have been able to tell, no oem parts are available from Marlin/Ruger period. I was on the phone with Ruger support when they told me that. I was so taken back they will not support the 1895 if the serial is not starting with RM, I called back later, and got the same answer. No parts available. That don't seem right.

I like that every part from bottom to top is made in America that’s awesome! I really want one of these because that fluted action and laminate is just so pretty! It’s in a beautiful caliber as well and it’s got a lever action I’m sold 😌 now if only I could acquire one 👀 I definitely got my eye out for one.

That is the best NEW marlin. The older original CT stamped ones are factory ported, keeps the recoil down so 405 won't break anything. If you scope the gun, get see thru ring mounts so a charging pig doesn't get you.

I would love to see this with normal size loop, .454 Casull, slimmer / lighter stock total weight 6.0 lbs., more capacity. .454 Casull 240 - 400 grain bullets avg velocity 1500 - 1650 fps = ME approx 1,800 ft lbs. More than enough for most 100 yard applications. Comparing the cartridges, .45-70 405 grain flat nose produces about the same energy w/ less pressure as any good Corbon load .454 Casull or about 1,800 ft lbs. ME. With 300 grain bullets pushed over 2,000 fps the big gov't round out easily out performs the hot pistol with ME levels 2,800 - 3,400 ft. Nevertheless, having one cartridge for handgun and rifle w/ more capacity in the rifle seems like a distinct advantage. Comments ?

I'm really glad to see that Ruger brought Marlin back to high quality. I had not heard that they were 100% American but I'm with you that's an extra Plus! Have you done any accuracy testing yet? I haven't seen any accuracy testing yet on it. One other guy was saying he was doing some but I haven't seen it yet. Supposedly the hammer Ford's barrel should be very accurate. Thank you 👍

Well if you buy it off gunbroker $2700 after tax to $3500. If you preorder one from a gun shop its $1200 before tax, but good luck getting one at that price. They tend to put them on gunbroker anyways to get double the price for it.
