@Average GIJoe Outdoors i actually got one for my son (to go with his SAA)... Long story short, i ended up LOVING the lever gun. A long time ago, my grandpa taught me how to shoot using a lever action shotgun (not an 1887). I loved it. I cant remember what it was though. I intend on getting one in either 38/357 or 45-70... but ammo dictating, itll likely be a 38/357.
The only "bad" thing about them increasing in popularity is of course the price is going to go up even more. I am not sure what it is about a lever gun though, just like John was doing, I could shuck that lever back and forth all day long just to hear the sound, though I wouldn't because I hate needless wear on my firearms. I guess it is a lot like neurotically popping those plastic packing bubbles, you just can't pop just one.

As soon as I start looking at something poof, everyone else got there two days before me. 🙄 Someday I would like to get something in the .357/.38 for the versatility since for any hunting I do that would be enough given lever actions are pretty much 100-150 yd brush guns. Of course I would love to have a 45-70 but I don't expect to be in bear/moose country any time soon nor do I want to spend so much per cartridge.

I remember asking my uncle, a rancher from Bozeman if I could shoot off the horse I was riding, he said well John how many shots were you wanting to shoot? I said I just wanted to shoot one, he replied "well hell John any horse can be shot from if you're only going to shoot one shell." He had a great sense of humor. I miss him dearly.

I have the 30.30and absolutely love it. The day my granddaughter was born (3 months ago). I went and purchased her a Henry .22. Early I know but at least she will have it.
I bought a Henry 45-70 for the same reason anybody else would. You never know when Tyrannosaurus rex gonna break in your back door in the middle of the night, we’ve all watched the news reports. Only question you have to ask yourself is “do you wanna be ready?”

I bought one of these to shoot with my father (for whom black and white westerns are the only acceptable form of non-sports entertainment) a couple of years back. Might not be the single most practical gun I own, but it is one of my favorite range toys. The brass front sight is excellent, grip texture is great, the smooth lever action is like nothing else, and with trapdoor Springfield loads, you can cut down on the next day shoulder pain dramatically, removing the only real downside not named “ammo price.”Plan on picking up the .357 in the near future.
I have a couple of those .357's and you will LOVE it. I scoped one for hunting. Me and my started picking up Henry's and I now have almost all calibers. The 44-40 is a sweet shooter too
I have the Henry X which allows for red dots, lights and a suppresor. You won't regret it if you get that. But the purdy brass traditional version is bomb too.

The 18" barrel will keep the velocity and usable distance of the 45-70 down. Cartridge manufacturers use 24" test barrels to list their velocity and energy specifications. The 6" difference in barrel length between the test and actual firearm barrels, may have a significant impact in what the round is capable of doing from its initial design.
As someone who grew up working summers on our ranch and traveling around working cows for other big ranchers in south Texas, I definitely need to get a Henry .45-70 someday! I was always the youngest guy on the crew, so I was usually the one down in the back of the chute having blood, crap, and kicks thrown my way. And I’ve still got the stained chaps and boots to prove it ha! Great content as always, much love from Texas!
I used a Winchester 30-30 saddle gun for deer hunting growing up in New Mexico and it was great at shorter ranges of 150 and in. Had to be REALLY good for anything longer.

Literally laughing out loud at this video! That was awesome. I already own a lever action (mandatory in Texas), but now I want a Henry 45-70! I hear you on the short effective range, but out here near Abilene in the middle of the cedar scrub country, there are very few sight distances that are over 100yds. If you see a deer or, more likely, a feral hog, it's going to pop out between 10 to 50 yards away (at least where I go hunting), so this rifle would be perfect for that!
I remember going hunting at 12 yrs old and my grandfather had a 45-70. Since then I've always been in aww of them and still want one for myself. I could fit my pinky in the barrel which was like holy cow.
John, these Henry's don't like to be loaded with the lever open (down). If you load with the breach open it can lock up, same happens on my .357 big boy.

Thanks for the laughs! I've owned a Henry 45/70 Golden Boy for over 10 years. Longer barrel and no side gate but, what a brush gun. Using a 350-grain bullet or a 300-grain bullet you can easily get up to 150 yards and it feels like you are shooting a 30/30 at most. Enjoy it "Cowboy"! Great, funny, and a hankerin' back to the Ole days.
Great, fun video. As a cowboy and a lever action lover, I really appreciated this. Yea, if you keep riding that horse, you'll walk like a cowboy in no time! My favorite saddle gun is a Marlin 1895 lever action .357. I do think the 45-70 would be a good addition, though.

I appreciate this review. I just picked one of these up for myself. I have not shot it yet. I'm currently at the "I need boots." stage. Helpful to know what is headed my way.
I agree my stock came loose just tightened the screw . When I got it the fore end was a little loose and said I’ll tighten it later ( a mistake) the fore end came off and I saw that one of the screw heads on the fore end band was broken. I contacted Henry and they sent me the pieces I thought I need free of charge and got them in less than a week, and it happened again, so thru some research I discovered that the very front band was messed up it just slid in to the dovetail and I saw that it should have to be drifted in with a brass punch so I contacted them again and less than a week got the part and I think that did it I fired 30 rounds yesterday without a problem and they were fairly hot loads 405 grain at 1750 fps. I’m honing to go over the gun and add so locktite.
I have 2 henry rifles. a steel 30-30 and brass big boy 44. Both have worked flawless for years. And have fed my family deer meat every deer season. Henry's are awesome.
I’m partial to marlin. Got the 30-30 and the 45-70. I’ve been into lever and bolt guns much longer than the AR platform that’s for sure. John your videos get better and better. Yep Marlins have been my go to lever actions. Have one in most caliber versions. Ruger started reproducing Marlins, but they are really expensive so far.
Have the model x in 45 colt, butter smooth, love it. Also your dogs not near stupid, I had one that always tried to eat my ejected brass. We had to fight over it a couple times, so either he was stupid or he was reloading too.
Just because a design is old doesn’t mean it’s outdated. It’s a useful tool if used properly. I have their Long Ranger in .556 and a Marlin in .44 magnum.
I bought a marlin 336 about 6 years ago for $299.00 and have had a blast with it. Recently bought the henry 22lr lever and love that one too. I always wanted to find a marlin texan i love the square lever look
Beautiful rifle! I've recently been on a lever action kick. In the last month I have bought two Marlin 45-70s, one SBL and the other the Trapper. When the sun comes up I'm ordering a Henry in 357 with the color case receiver and octagonal barrel.

45-70 is VERY powerful. My dad had a stainless steel Savage lever action with a 16 inch barrel a number of years ago. I could only shoot a couple of shots and I was done. 44 Mag in a lever action would be pretty awesome.
I have a Henry X Model in .44 mag. It's definitely awesome. 44 mag is probably the best open country pistol/rifle combo for practicality and defense. I have a Super Blackhawk as a companion to the X Model and if I was out in the wilderness, they are exactly what I'd take.
My 1886 Browning lever action saddle ring carbine is and always has been my “go to” rifle for years. It is absolutely the straightest shooting iron sighted rifle I ever owned. The 45/70 can kill game as well as defend your life if necessary. The flip up ladder sights are great.
Way to harsh, lol. It is a purposeful tool. Most know this is primarily a brush gun. Capable of taking large dangerous game. It definitely is not a sniper rifle, lol. Those looking for a great brush gun good out to 150 to 200 yds can't do much better. These are extremely popular guide guns in dangerous brown, grizzly and black bear country. I have a 35 Remin gton since high school and have taken many whitetail deer, mine is a marlin model 336c lever action. I am 64 now and have never suffered any kind of failure. My experience with lever actions has been positive. Love your channel young man and I appreciate your service.
John the lock up issue more likely than not was the bullet nose shape. Very common with most lever action designs. The second possibility is not working the action with vigor. You are right those Henry rifles are well made , can take heavy loads ( not the wimpy standard low pressure loads) and can be quite accurate.
I have a Henry 44.40 a Rossi 357/.38 a Winchester.30-30 and a Uberti .45-70 Sharps replica, all are a blast to shoot love ‘em all, would love to have a Spencer .56 but haven’t found one yet. Love love love the old lever guns.
Still want to get my dad a .44 magnum Henry to pair with his S&W model 29. I'd really like for it to be a side gate with octagonal barrel, but... Traditional style. 1 long-arm, 1 sidearm, 1 box of cartridges for the both of them. Do me a favor though and don't tell him, okay.
I own two lever actions. Winchester 30-30 and a Henry 357/38sp. Both are two of my favorite firearms. Not the most practical, but OH so much fun to shoot.
John, love the video your sense of humor is spot on, we all grew up with cap pistols, and pretending our bicycles were our trusty horses. Now as adults we get to live that dream sort of. You have definitely rekindled my desire for a 45-70 , I already have 2 lever action 44 magnums and a 357 magnum, so really no need for a 45-70 . Lucky for us the 2nd ammendment is not about need!
I will say that i know a guy that built a speed loader for his .45LC lever action rifle. Only works if your gun has a side loader though. It's a length of PVC pipe sized to fit the bullets of your rifle with a cap on one end and the other end cut at a very steep angle. You drill a hole in the cap slightly smaller than your bullets but sized that a dowel rod will fit through. On the angled side cut a line into the pipe about a third of the way through and roll an O-ring onto the pipe until it fits into that slot. Fill the pipe with your bullets and the O-ring will hold them in. Place the angles portion of the pipe over your side loading gate, insert the dowel rod through the cap and push all the bullets into your magazine tube in less than a second.
Got a Marlin 1895SBL in 45-70 about a year ago and I love it! I think the butt pad on mine is a little thicker than yours, maybe when I get to cowboy status I'll be able to swap it for a thinner one. Great review John, thanks so much!
Since the Pro’s and Con’s of this Henry 45-70, what about the Henry 30-30? The only knock I’ve heard is it isn’t a good brush rifle. It would be fun for you to rate it.
That’s a fairly honest review of a Henry or any modern lever gun. Especially in re to the eight different size screws. They’re necessary beasts and fair warning heard. Don’t strip your hardware!! 🐍

Henry is better than most gun manufacturers in regard to quality and standing behind their products. I have as many Henry rifles as I do all other manufacturers probably. Everyone wants a product made 100% then complain it’s a rip off due to price only.
Henry's quality is not that great. psa has quality and they are responsibly priced. just like . this video is right. ppl get mad bc someone exposed Henry. they don't pay their employees anymore than other American gun manufacturers. I'd prefer a marlin ruger or mossberg above any overpriced clunky henry. it's sad they continue to charge a $1000 for a rifle worth about 300.

I have never tried a Henry 45-70 but absolutely love my Marlin 45-70. It's a great rifle to have when walking around were there are toothy critters or ones that run around with pitchforks on their heads.
You tried to load the side gate with the bolt open, which jinked the feed ramp lever out of whack. You start dropping hogs with it and you'll never look back. And then you'll start laying in Trapdoors and Mod 66 / 73s..... PS - 45-70 in a proper platform is a 1000yd gun.
I have to say, I seriously appreciate the insight on the negatives. I always wondered about the reliability on these guns and why they weren't used in war in the 1900s, but it does make sense. That said, I would love to see you review a lever action that you did feel was reliable and durable enough to be used in rough conditions.
You keep workin' on that cowboy'n. It suits you. Hubby and I enjoying our WPS evening (yes, have done that for a while, but led to say, "howdy" tonight. You mentioned in another video you needed that whole calf roping help - I have the man (another Paul) to show you those rope...it's an art. Just don't get him on a range... he'll throw gunpower & lead with you into the night. Also, learned you have alpacas. Bred them for 17 yrs. love them, miss them... if you need any help you/wife contact...that makes us family. ~blessings
Every one of these reviews is like 85% of what I wanted. He did a 1911, but not a cabot or nighthawk. A galil ace, but in 556. And now a lever action, but not in 357 or 44.
357 or 44 both fantastic. Very reliable super soft recoil fantastic for plinking, awesome for small frame or beginning shooters, ok for hunting close range depending on your state's laws. However 30-30 is a better hunter but that's just an opinion. I got the 30-30 and the .44 love them both.
I have my grandfather's Winchester model 94 trapper 30-30, his Marlin 336 .44 mag, and my Henry 45-70 like the one you are reviewing. Love the Henry 45-70.
I have the Henry in 22wmr. I truly love this firearm. I've installed mine with the large loop lever. My Henry is a solid piece. I have fellow bear hunters who carry the 4570. They're just no fun to shoot. Especially in a light carbine. But the gun is ideal when busting threw the bush. Chasing hounds. If you want to hunt dangerous game I recommend 375HH. flatter trajectory, and hits the animal like a truck. Oh, I have to say being a retired bull rider, and ranch cowboy, I cringed when you laid your hat on the brim. Common wannabe mistake.
@@alexmaurice4274 upside down on the crown. Edit: to clarify, setting it flat, as a habit, will flatten the brim. If your hat is already truly flat, then no issue. Side note, a lamp shade is usually a good size for a hat if in need of a place to set it (assuming the light is NOT on).
My first hunting rifle was a Winchester 1894 in 30-30. I prefer my lever guns with iron sights so top eject doesn't matter to me. I can't think of a more comfortable rifle for a woods walk.

I had a Henry chambered in .223/5.56 that was a tack driver. Unfortunately, being an AR type of guy and the rifle having a rotating bolt I was continually wanting to break it down for cleaning, customizing etc. No can do so I became a little bored with it and sold it. It's a great gun though and the craftsmanship and quality make it worth more than what it costs.

I have a Henry in 22lr. It isn't what I would want in every situation but I love it. There is just something about it that can't be beat. And it is a tack driver in my experience. But admittedly, I don't take it out much past 50 yards.
These lever actions are looking more and more appealing to me. As I age I find myself waning from tacticool guns. I am considering getting a breakdown Lever action soon. I think I am becoming a boomer.

Cool video for a Ranger, haha Airborne, Brother. Anyone who skips past this video is not a true fan of firearms. Last summer I had one of my high school friends fly out here to AZ from the VA. She is a lifelong liberal, so one of the things we had to do was go shooting. I had her run a couple of mags through my Mossberg AR-15 (5.56) on paper targets to get comfortable with it. Then I let her shoot the crap out of a watermelon. I was impressed. For someone who had never shot guns before, she shot the melon into itty bitty pieces from about 20-25 yards. I questioned her about how she felt shooting the rifle, and about how dangerous and deadly she thought the rounds were. She said that she enjoyed firing it, and felt comfortable with it, but still thought it was terribly deadly. I pulled out my Marlin 45/70 and showed her how it functioned differently than the AR. I was all, "yeah this is just an old cowboy gun from the wild west. Then I took aim at another watermelon from the same distance and eliminated it from the universe with one shot. She now knows that liberal talking points about firearms are BS. Later, she hit a small tannerite canister with the Mossberg from about 50+yards on her second shot with just the red dot. Two days later we went to shoot M-60s, SAWs, and other high-speed weapons at another range. She had a blast, but would not share her pics and videos on social media because on the way to the range we heard that Kyle Rittenhouse was aquitted.
Used a Winchester 30-30 growing up hunting in the woods of northern Minnesota. To this day is my go to rifle for hunting, yes I have a good selection of other choices to include a 308. With the right ammunition you can easily reach 200, and have taken deer at over 150 yards. Love it easy to use, only downside is putting the rifle on safe when it’s cold and wet out old rifle hammer can be slick.
Everything Henry is top notch. I have 2 and both are just amazing the workmanship they put into their carbines. Gotta have a lever action in the collection!

I have the Henry in 22 and love it. Also an older Marlin and 2 Winchester's in 30 -30 . Once you go lever action its hard to go with anything else..

Bought a Henry. 22 for my son this year, we both love it!! I grew up with a marlin .30-.30, miss that gun!
John, these Henry's don't like to be loaded with the lever open (down). If you load with the breach open it can lock up, same happens on my .357 big boy.

I went with an 1886 Winchester in 45 70 as designed by St John Moses Browning, 8 plus one, still a great design and it handles powerhouse 45 70 loads.

Thanks for the laughs! I've owned a Henry 45/70 Golden Boy for over 10 years. Longer barrel and no side gate but, what a brush gun. Using a 350-grain bullet or a 300-grain bullet you can easily get up to 150 yards and it feels like you are shooting a 30/30 at most. Enjoy it "Cowboy"! Great, funny, and a hankerin' back to the Ole days.
Great, fun video. As a cowboy and a lever action lover, I really appreciated this. Yea, if you keep riding that horse, you'll walk like a cowboy in no time! My favorite saddle gun is a Marlin 1895 lever action .357. I do think the 45-70 would be a good addition, though.

I’ve had the.38/.357 for years and it is laser precise, and with the octagon barrel I don’t worry about barrel whip.

I agree my stock came loose just tightened the screw . When I got it the fore end was a little loose and said I’ll tighten it later ( a mistake) the fore end came off and I saw that one of the screw heads on the fore end band was broken. I contacted Henry and they sent me the pieces I thought I need free of charge and got them in less than a week, and it happened again, so thru some research I discovered that the very front band was messed up it just slid in to the dovetail and I saw that it should have to be drifted in with a brass punch so I contacted them again and less than a week got the part and I think that did it I fired 30 rounds yesterday without a problem and they were fairly hot loads 405 grain at 1750 fps. I’m honing to go over the gun and add so locktite.
I have 2 henry rifles. a steel 30-30 and brass big boy 44. Both have worked flawless for years. And have fed my family deer meat every deer season. Henry's are awesome.

I’m partial to marlin. Got the 30-30 and the 45-70. I’ve been into lever and bolt guns much longer than the AR platform that’s for sure.

Yep Marlins have been my go to lever actions. Have one in most caliber versions.
Ruger started reproducing Marlins, but they are really expensive so far.

One tip set your hat upside down it protects the hat brim from being bent out of shape and keeps the luck in hat
Have the model x in 45 colt, butter smooth, love it. Also your dogs not near stupid, I had one that always tried to eat my ejected brass. We had to fight over it a couple times, so either he was stupid or he was reloading too.
Just because a design is old doesn’t mean it’s outdated. It’s a useful tool if used properly. I have their Long Ranger in .556 and a Marlin in .44 magnum.

I bought a marlin 336 about 6 years ago for $299.00 and have had a blast with it. Recently bought the henry 22lr lever and love that one too. I always wanted to find a marlin texan i love the square lever look

Beautiful rifle! I've recently been on a lever action kick. In the last month I have bought two Marlin 45-70s, one SBL and the other the Trapper. When the sun comes up I'm ordering a Henry in 357 with the color case receiver and octagonal barrel.
Definitely should add a 30-30 if you haven't already
@@cbeaudry4646 yes. I do have a couple Winchester 94s one was given to me by a friend years ago from the '80s and the other was made in 1951 (year my father was born).
45-70 is VERY powerful. My dad had a stainless steel Savage lever action with a 16 inch barrel a number of years ago. I could only shoot a couple of shots and I was done. 44 Mag in a lever action would be pretty awesome.

I have a Henry X Model in .44 mag. It's definitely awesome. 44 mag is probably the best open country pistol/rifle combo for practicality and defense. I have a Super Blackhawk as a companion to the X Model and if I was out in the wilderness, they are exactly what I'd take.
My 1886 Browning lever action saddle ring carbine is and always has been my “go to” rifle for years. It is absolutely the straightest shooting iron sighted rifle I ever owned. The 45/70 can kill game as well as defend your life if necessary. The flip up ladder sights are great.
Now we need to get John using a single action revolver. I recommend the Schofield.

Way to harsh, lol. It is a purposeful tool. Most know this is primarily a brush gun. Capable of taking large dangerous game. It definitely is not a sniper rifle, lol. Those looking for a great brush gun good out to 150 to 200 yds can't do much better. These are extremely popular guide guns in dangerous brown, grizzly and black bear country. I have a 35 Remin gton since high school and have taken many whitetail deer, mine is a marlin model 336c lever action. I am 64 now and have never suffered any kind of failure. My experience with lever actions has been positive. Love your channel young man and I appreciate your service.

John the lock up issue more likely than not was the bullet nose shape. Very common with most lever action designs.
The second possibility is not working the action with vigor.
You are right those Henry rifles are well made , can take heavy loads ( not the wimpy standard low pressure loads) and can be quite accurate.

I have a Henry 44.40 a Rossi 357/.38 a Winchester.30-30 and a Uberti .45-70 Sharps replica, all are a blast to shoot love ‘em all, would love to have a Spencer .56 but haven’t found one yet. Love love love the old lever guns.

I own two lever actions. Winchester 30-30 and a Henry 357/38sp. Both are two of my favorite firearms. Not the most practical, but OH so much fun to shoot.

John, love the video your sense of humor is spot on, we all grew up with cap pistols, and pretending our bicycles were our trusty horses. Now as adults we get to live that dream sort of. You have definitely rekindled my desire for a 45-70 , I already have 2 lever action 44 magnums and a 357 magnum, so really no need for a 45-70 . Lucky for us the 2nd ammendment is not about need!

I will say that i know a guy that built a speed loader for his .45LC lever action rifle. Only works if your gun has a side loader though. It's a length of PVC pipe sized to fit the bullets of your rifle with a cap on one end and the other end cut at a very steep angle. You drill a hole in the cap slightly smaller than your bullets but sized that a dowel rod will fit through. On the angled side cut a line into the pipe about a third of the way through and roll an O-ring onto the pipe until it fits into that slot. Fill the pipe with your bullets and the O-ring will hold them in. Place the angles portion of the pipe over your side loading gate, insert the dowel rod through the cap and push all the bullets into your magazine tube in less than a second.
For real though, we need a WPS shield hat band for those of us with cowboy hats! Or just a WPS shield concho!
Id buy either one. A whole set of to spec silver Conchos that I could outfit my saddles with.

Got a Marlin 1895SBL in 45-70 about a year ago and I love it! I think the butt pad on mine is a little thicker than yours, maybe when I get to cowboy status I'll be able to swap it for a thinner one. Great review John, thanks so much!
Since the Pro’s and Con’s of this Henry 45-70, what about the Henry 30-30? The only knock I’ve heard is it isn’t a good brush rifle. It would be fun for you to rate it.
-30.30 is a awesome brush gun. That round has killed more deer then most and most deer are in brush
Usually if the lever is locked open on those. Something is blocking the shell lifter. That's usually what stops them up.
That’s a fairly honest review of a Henry or any modern lever gun. Especially in re to the eight different size screws. They’re necessary beasts and fair warning heard. Don’t strip your hardware!! 🐍

Henry is better than most gun manufacturers in regard to quality and standing behind their products. I have as many Henry rifles as I do all other manufacturers probably. Everyone wants a product made 100% then complain it’s a rip off due to price only.
Henry's quality is not that great. psa has quality and they are responsibly priced. just like . this video is right. ppl get mad bc someone exposed Henry. they don't pay their employees anymore than other American gun manufacturers. I'd prefer a marlin ruger or mossberg above any overpriced clunky henry. it's sad they continue to charge a $1000 for a rifle worth about 300.

I have never tried a Henry 45-70 but absolutely love my Marlin 45-70. It's a great rifle to have when walking around were there are toothy critters or ones that run around with pitchforks on their heads.

You tried to load the side gate with the bolt open, which jinked the feed ramp lever out of whack.
You start dropping hogs with it and you'll never look back.
And then you'll start laying in Trapdoors and Mod 66 / 73s.....
PS - 45-70 in a proper platform is a 1000yd gun.
I have to say, I seriously appreciate the insight on the negatives. I always wondered about the reliability on these guns and why they weren't used in war in the 1900s, but it does make sense.
That said, I would love to see you review a lever action that you did feel was reliable and durable enough to be used in rough conditions.
My dad’s Henry Golden Boy (.45 LC) is absolutely one of my favorite guns. Fun to shoot and makes me feel like a true American 😂 🇺🇸

Hubby and I enjoying our WPS evening (yes, have done that for a while, but led to say, "howdy" tonight. You mentioned in another video you needed that whole calf roping help - I have the man (another Paul) to show you those rope...it's an art. Just don't get him on a range... he'll throw gunpower & lead with you into the night. Also, learned you have alpacas. Bred them for 17 yrs. love them, miss them... if you need any help you/wife contact...that makes us family. ~blessings
Every one of these reviews is like 85% of what I wanted. He did a 1911, but not a cabot or nighthawk. A galil ace, but in 556. And now a lever action, but not in 357 or 44.

Because 45-70 rocks! With the shorter barrels in .357 and .44 they are sooooo friggen loud as not to be fun to shoot.
357 or 44 both fantastic. Very reliable super soft recoil fantastic for plinking, awesome for small frame or beginning shooters, ok for hunting close range depending on your state's laws. However 30-30 is a better hunter but that's just an opinion. I got the 30-30 and the .44 love them both.

I have my grandfather's Winchester model 94 trapper 30-30, his Marlin 336 .44 mag, and my Henry 45-70 like the one you are reviewing. Love the Henry 45-70.
I have the Henry in 22wmr. I truly love this firearm. I've installed mine with the large loop lever. My Henry is a solid piece. I have fellow bear hunters who carry the 4570. They're just no fun to shoot. Especially in a light carbine. But the gun is ideal when busting threw the bush. Chasing hounds. If you want to hunt dangerous game I recommend 375HH. flatter trajectory, and hits the animal like a truck. Oh, I have to say being a retired bull rider, and ranch cowboy, I cringed when you laid your hat on the brim. Common wannabe mistake.

Edit: to clarify, setting it flat, as a habit, will flatten the brim. If your hat is already truly flat, then no issue. Side note, a lamp shade is usually a good size for a hat if in need of a place to set it (assuming the light is NOT on).

My first hunting rifle was a Winchester 1894 in 30-30. I prefer my lever guns with iron sights so top eject doesn't matter to me. I can't think of a more comfortable rifle for a woods walk.
Bought a 357 lever gun for self defense in case there was a tragic boating accident. Love shooting them! Awesome intro John or whatever your cowboy name was. Thanks for sharing!
I had a Henry chambered in .223/5.56 that was a tack driver. Unfortunately, being an AR type of guy and the rifle having a rotating bolt I was continually wanting to break it down for cleaning, customizing etc. No can do so I became a little bored with it and sold it. It's a great gun though and the craftsmanship and quality make it worth more than what it costs.
I like to call it a European AR because it’s one of the few firearms allowed to be owned by them metric poets

I have a Henry in 22lr. It isn't what I would want in every situation but I love it. There is just something about it that can't be beat. And it is a tack driver in my experience. But admittedly, I don't take it out much past 50 yards.

Cool video for a Ranger, haha Airborne, Brother. Anyone who skips past this video is not a true fan of firearms. Last summer I had one of my high school friends fly out here to AZ from the VA. She is a lifelong liberal, so one of the things we had to do was go shooting. I had her run a couple of mags through my Mossberg AR-15 (5.56) on paper targets to get comfortable with it. Then I let her shoot the crap out of a watermelon. I was impressed. For someone who had never shot guns before, she shot the melon into itty bitty pieces from about 20-25 yards. I questioned her about how she felt shooting the rifle, and about how dangerous and deadly she thought the rounds were. She said that she enjoyed firing it, and felt comfortable with it, but still thought it was terribly deadly. I pulled out my Marlin 45/70 and showed her how it functioned differently than the AR. I was all, "yeah this is just an old cowboy gun from the wild west. Then I took aim at another watermelon from the same distance and eliminated it from the universe with one shot. She now knows that liberal talking points about firearms are BS. Later, she hit a small tannerite canister with the Mossberg from about 50+yards on her second shot with just the red dot. Two days later we went to shoot M-60s, SAWs, and other high-speed weapons at another range. She had a blast, but would not share her pics and videos on social media because on the way to the range we heard that Kyle Rittenhouse was aquitted.
Used a Winchester 30-30 growing up hunting in the woods of northern Minnesota. To this day is my go to rifle for hunting, yes I have a good selection of other choices to include a 308. With the right ammunition you can easily reach 200, and have taken deer at over 150 yards. Love it easy to use, only downside is putting the rifle on safe when it’s cold and wet out old rifle hammer can be slick.
