  • In this video @OutdoorJack stops by the shop to talk about the brand new Ruger made Marlin 1895 SBL 45-70. This lever action gun was first designed for guides up in Alaska. It has been made by a few different manufacturers over the years but this one is top notch with some added features that previous models have not had including a Stainless Steel barrel that is threaded and features fiber optics sights with a big XS-Style pic rail for optics.

I have a 2019 Remlin 1895 CBA that I absolutely love, I did all the internal polishing and added the RPP loading gate and stripped and refinished the wood. Very pretty gun. I cast the bullets and load for the 45-70. Also added a Leopold 1.5X4 scope because of my 73 year old eyes. Love the Marlins and I'm very glad to see Ruger pick them up and see these great guns alive

Beautiful! I'd like to see that in the shorter "guide gun" style in .454 Casull.

I am so happy I got this SBL over the Winchester version. Because I would still buy this if I owned the other which would suck paying even more money.

Thanks for a great review. I am a fan of both Ruger and Marlin. I am excited that Ruger will be producing Marlin Firearms. Can't wait for the other popular calibers. What I like to see from the Ruger Design Team, is a button on the side of the lever action rifle receiver that can be depressed when unloading the cartridge from the chamber. By depressing the button, it will stop the next cartridge from entering the carrier feed lever and closing the bolt on a empty chamber. The rifle will be loaded with rounds in it's magazine but no cartridge in the chamber, therefore another safety factor. Like a loaded magazine in a pistol but no round in the chamber. What I like to see is also screw retaining washers for all the screws on the receiver. The quality of Ruger Firearms are top notch and will be producing great Marlin firearms.

I got mine about a month ago, it is a beautiful firearm! I also got the Marlin branded leather sling and stock ammo caddy for it of the Ruger/Marlin store, these leather items are the perfect accented accessories for it. This was the first time I've shot this large and high caliber of rifle cartridge and it's a blast!

I own 2 original marlins one in 35 Remington and one in 30/30 Winchester and never really did understand all the controversy over the crossbolt safety. I gave the 35 to my youngest son when he started hunting and felt it made it a bit safer when unloading the rifle. I just use the half cock feature while hunting but have never had the cross bolt safe accidentally get engaged. There was one occasion where an older gentleman was at our hunting location ( I wasn’t there to witness it luckily) but after eating breakfast which included bacon and a greasy thumb he for whatever reason decided to load his 30/30 in the mud room before heading into the woods, chambered a round attempted to lower the hammer and put a round into the roof after his thumb slipped from the hammer. Luckily no one was injured except for the roof.

Really hope Ruger brings the .308 Marlin Express back to the market. Niche market I know, but there’s some of us folks who’d grab onto it like a gold brick. I think some would latch onto the.338 Marlin Express as well.

Very good video, very happy that Ruger is now in charge of the new lever action Marlin rifles production. I would like very much to purchase this Ruger-Marlin carbine in .357 mag and .44 mag cartdriges

Nice, but I would prefer no rail and a blued finish also would prefer the laminate in a regular dark wood color, I do totally get the reasons why for those things, just a looks preference on my part.

  • @lckgilmo43

Cost to much. A Remlin 45/70 ran for $600 to $700 compared to a Ruger $1,400 45/70. Kinda expensive and pretty to be risking it being scratched up while brush hunting.

Good review but how about we just drop the tiresome and worn out brand name calling and call the rifle brand name it is, a Marlin.
