    This solution is so clever. Whoever figured this out is a genius.

    If anyone's watching this and using Blender 3.0, the "cut through" option got rebound from Z to C, since XYZ keys now toggle editing on the respective axis.

    Thanks, used this on version 3.4.1 and it's really very fast and cool

    This is a year old but if someone were looking at this, at the top right, next to the view modes you have the option to toggle x-ray view. You can use the hotkeys Alt+Z to toggle it. It’s the icon with the two layers with the back layer dotted. Hope this helps someone in the future. The x-ray mode allows you to see through the object and cut through it as he’s showing here

    Thank you for this video! This is really a nice solution... while I tried to create something with an array and screw modifier... your solution is much easier and better!

    Nice tutorial. There's the bisect tool (under knife) which is made to cut all the way through objects.

    • @ChristophWerner
      @ChristophWerner  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I know. There are several ways to cut through an object. If you're are using shortcuts then "k" is the common way to do it, in my opinion. But the bisect tool is good for detailed work and allows numeric inputs.

    Is this approach effective for game ready models?

    • @ChristophWerner
      @ChristophWerner  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Basically yes. It depend on the mesh resolution. However you still need some more refinement to create game ready assets.

    Wouldn’t it be faster to copy the cuts you make. Slide the copies a fraction and then change the size to make them stand out?

    • @ChristophWerner
      @ChristophWerner  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's right. There are several ways to create the base shape for the leather. Another one is to create a circle around the top part of the grip and extrude it and rotate the subdivisions each time. :)

    we press k then what ? to cut through ?

    • @ChristophWerner
      @ChristophWerner  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      First press "k" to activate the cut function and then directly "z" to cut through. You see a short key manual in the footer line. There are all keys listed for the cut tool.

    I have a problem at 2:40, when I make a new material for my handle, Nothing happens. The color or texture dosent change

    • @ChristophWerner
      @ChristophWerner  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Did you change the color after you've made the material copy? Is the new material really assigned to your leather? Actually the steps are clear in the video. Drop me a line here, if you have more questions.
