5:11 if your screw looks weird (sqquashed), that's because you have to apply rotation for the plane. Just select the plane in the obj mode > ctrl a > apply rotation, and you should be fine.
This is so much easier than the things I was trying to get a staff wrapped. I don't even feel bad about needing to redo it, because this technique is so quick!
Extremely helpful, was looking around for the right tools and tips to wrap the hilt of my Macuahitl project and stumbled on your tutorial! Thank you so much!
Fantastic Tutorial! Little hint tho. Instead of applying all modifiers just apply the shrink wrap first. Because at that moment you can grap the two vertices at the top (or bottom) to get that overlap . That way you can avoid that fiddling around with finding out which loop is which. Nothing major but it helps :)
so much has changed in 3.0 starting with the screw not placing the modifier itself beside the 2 vertices you highlight so they cover the mesh itself, also the smooth shading doesn't seem to work because its automatically highlighted and yet the spawned mesh from the screw modifier is very low poly.
when I add the shrinkwrap modifier, my wrap isn't uniformly curved like yours. It looks really weird, and I am wondering if there is anything specific I need to do to either the handle or the screw modifier to make it work right? thanks!
ok so, im a little late but, to solve you need to put the origin point in the handle's center like this - prnt.sc/1sueqw0 to do that, put the 3D cursor on the world center and the handle onto the same place, after this do the same i did on the print (sorry for my english, i'm still learning and have issues explaining things)
way late but if anyone is having issues with the shrinkwrap modifier not correctly binding and spiraling around the handle, change the wrap method to project
что сложного добавить шринкврап на для каждой спирали разделив их на разные меши и для одной из спиралей увеличить дистанцию получится тот же результат, система ткани работает для каждой версии по разному в указанных автором настройках, не усложняйте себе жизнь
When i use the Shrinkwrape modifier it bugs , and do a different shape that is wavy , How to fix that. Edit : found the way to fix it , in shrinkwrape select outside in modes

16:12 can you tell me commands?
16:11 I tried to do this but it didn't duplicate it and instead made it change direction let me know if this is changed since I'm using 2.82
On the duplicate change the screw value to minus the original (on the modifier stack)
Oh...

What the hell, my plans turned into a glitched circle and I can’t make it an actual circle shape like yours
