    In this video I will show you how to use parts work in art therapy to integrate internal aspects that have been fragmented through trauma. We will explore two opposing parts through painting, drawing, writing, movement and sound. We will then look at the relationship between the two aspects and finally integrate these fragmented aspects. The method is closely related to internal family systems therapy and uses the multimodal approach of expressive arts therapy.
    This exercise will be good for trauma resolution, indecisiveness, feeling of being stuck or situations where you feel like your behavior moves from one extreme to another. You might also find this activity useful if you practice or are a student of art therapy and are looking for new techniques to use creative processes with clients.
    Here is the video by Teal Swan to learn more about parts work:

    I can’t believe you don’t have more followers. This beautiful, supportive, gentle, and so much more. It is such a caring and forgiving way to allow yourself to feel your feelings and teach them to communicate with each other. You have a new follower.

    This facilitator is so genuine in her work. I hope she succeeds in her aspiration to lead groups. She is willing to become vulnerable which would allow participants to be vulnerable as well.

    well done... I have been studying IFS and I like this as a different aspect of integration... I am a therapist and this may be a very good way to work with a resistant client ( a part of them is resistant) or it may work well with some who just are mare drawn to movement and other non verbal forms of expression.. ... From a neuroscience point of view, this process taps into the movement and emotional parts of the brain while the cognitive part is observing... that is how the integration occurs at the neural network level.... thank you!!!

    Thank you for being vulnerable in sharing your own example of how this exercise is used. It was a beautiful way to show how parts can learn to communicate with each other and how we can get to know and understand there roles.

    This sounds very much like shadow work. The "parts" would be shadow aspects that need to be integrated into the personality. Many people are not aware that what is referred to as the shadow is not one thing in itself. There are many shadow aspects (or parts as described here) we must work on to integrate. Either way, I'm sure this exercise will help.

    I am so excited to have stumbled upon this video! I’ve been doing IFS for two years but I am a creative person and also needing to work my trauma out in a physical way. This combines lots of creative outlets so wonderfully! Going to start doing this practice today! Wishing to all freedom from suffering and abundance of love. 🌺

    Thank you so much for sharing this and for showing such vulnerability by using yourself and your parts as the example. I've spent years studying art therapy and a variety of intuitive processes for personal growth and healing but I have never experienced a better example and explanation for the uses of art and expression in integration. I am going to experiment with the process for myself and look forward to sharing with clients. Thank you!!

      Thanks Liudvika for your comment and support! I’m glad you liked this. I think its very useful to look at two aspects at once because they are often polarities of the fragment of a single trauma. ❤️

    Thank you for putting this out here, making yourself vulnerable too the public and sharing your inner parts. I came here because I was looking for a combination of IFS (internal family systems) and art for myself to explore and understand my inner parts. I love the idea with the different chairs ( i might need a much bigger table and more chairs :) And to combine it with sound and dance. How wonderful is that?! I am very curious about what I will come up with trying this. Sending you lots of love from Cologne, Germany

    Richard Swartz would argue that we are naturally multiplicitous, not necessarily split because of trauma. However, we often exile parts when there is trauma.

    Is there a way to modify IFS in a way that it works with DID?
    We would have a hard time and excruciating headaches switching out all the time or otherwise not be able to connect to the paintings the way we should...

    • @TheAbergel
      @TheAbergel ปีที่แล้ว

      In IFS we would focus on the part which is dissociating you and find out more about it. It is usually protecting you in some way so we find out what it is afraid will happen if it lets you do the artwork.
