    I really like how this video just got straight into it, no BS intro to waste our time. The only criticism for this video that I have is that it did not show side-by-side comparisons of the "correct" and "incorrect" ways of doing the movements.

      I give finishing too far back sideeye since a way more destructive & common problem is swimmers not finishing their stroke, pulling their hands out at their waists. Another common problem even among good swimmers is crossing over either on the recovery or the stroke.

    This is pretty good. None of my coaches had ever picked my problem up which was the bent elbow and it led me to having other problems like not catching the water. The coach I have now picked it up and we started to work on it. It's still a problem I'm trying to work on as I get lazy with stretching out during the cool downs and stuff. All I can say though is that working on my technique has really helped get rid of other problems like catching the water.

    First mistake I don't consider it as a mistake. If you train for triathlon you need to practice for forward as well as backward looking. This is pretty hard to do because it drains more energy from you. But you need to practice it for open water swimming. I may be wrong but the guy swimming with "forward look mistake" is probably training for triathlon. He swimms mostly with his arms and using legs as stablilizers which is pretty common technique in triathlon swimming.

    • @andyjugravu94
      @andyjugravu94 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It kinda is ( from personal experience in the past I say ) , because If I look forward when I swim -instead of down - it slows me down ...And personally , it desorientate me :)) - I dont know about others , but for me is not a good thing looking forward .

    • @padeksewenejt1032
      @padeksewenejt1032 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@andyjugravu94 Forward looking is a KEY thing in open water for navigation. Navigation is something that casual pool swimmer, who never swam open water, is not even aware of. So still it is a matter of context. If we are talking about fast sport swimming in a pool then probably it is a mistake because it certainly can pull you out of a stream line and generating a drag. But when we talk about open water swimming then forward looking is a must. If you would not navigate properly then your freestyle would have been even more slow because you could end up swimming in a completely wrong direction and thus unnesseserly lengthen your trace. And frankly the guy on a video is doing it pretty good (training to navigate that is). He raises his head not to much (which is very important for not loosing to much energy), in a right moment for a view while exhale and then turn his head for a breath. The technic commonly shown by profesional open water swimmers. So probably my main problem is a title of the video because we don't know what type of swimming we are talking about :)

    3:25 i think his main problem were the hips, way too low. I believe he can achieve the right arm position after he corrects that.

    • @Shazam999
      @Shazam999 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      His hips are too low because he's not getting enough pull from his upper body. Same thing happens to me when I get lazy with the arms.

    • @agusromero357
      @agusromero357 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Shazam999 well it's very personal too but I've worked hips with many of my students and they corrected the arm position in a very short time. I believe it depends on personal strength.

    5:06 this is a cheat if you feel out of breath. In fact I swim long distances like this because I yet to develop breathing and can't keep my head down for long.
    I can swim ( without this mistake) max 100m now.
    With this mistake I can go 1500m because it does not choke me.

  • @robohippy
    @robohippy 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think I will disagree with the last point here about the too soon arm pull. That particular pull is much more suited to sprints, especially if you are using the straight arm recovery. With the straight arm recovery, it is essential that the arms reciprocate, one pulls and the other recovers for max acceleration. the more 'catch up' style is more common in the middle and long distance swims, and is more energy efficient.
