I like to focus on a relaxed but strong stroke. its surprising how much faster you are when you feel the water rather than fighting the water. great tips!

I will practice the drills from you to correct course. I know I have issues because I don’t feel smooth and effortless when I swim, like something doesn’t feel right. One time or another I had all 6 of the mistakes, now down to the 2.

Try and slow things down and just pick one thing to focus on in every session, try not to do it all at once, coming from a newbie, this is what I find helps 🙏

There's a lot of controversy in the head position. Looking ahead, at 45 degrees put some tension on your neck. Looking straight down, which is more natural will automatically raise your legs. Also, looking straight down you will have less constraints/ less effort on your shoulders. Not my opinion, it's the Ocean Walker technique developed by him while he had shoulder injury. At least that's my understanding of his technique.
Whenever I'm looking straight down, I find the swim more effortless, BUT for me the 45 degree angle is still more instinctual, mainly because then I don't have to rotate my head as much to the side to breathe. All things considered, for me it's still easier to swim with the more effortless head rotation I get when looking "ahead" than the somewhat better leg position I would get when looking down.
My mistake was listening to their English. Kidding. I guess we all swim in English the same on this side of the pond. Aussies and Kiwis must understand this too!!!!! More sun for you both! Do either of you have a stationary trainer you like? our pool is too small to do laps of any concequence.
Powerful fast kicks from the hips through the legs and keeping a tight core and gliding along the top of the water is also very beneficial swimming at a fast pace.

I'd like to do a 2 or 4 beat kick. What I'm noticing is the perception that I'm not moving forward very well. My lap times aren't that far off from when I wore the fins. However, I still feel like my legs are sinking and am having a hard time feeling where my legs are in space. I can't see them obviously so, I'm wondering if I just need to ignore this perception and go with the fact that I am indeed moving forward? How does one get over this feeling that their legs aren't there?

Depends on what kind of mistakes you are still tapping in; you need feedback. If your technique is already good, you might do exercises that allow you to breath fewer times.
I think trickle breathing has save me from leaving the sport - I've very physically fit and know how to swim but I'm trying to improve endurance and I think the trickle breathing has really helped me extend my non-stop swimming.
For the endurance as well as top speed your anaerobic tolerance are important. Have you ever done an exercise called breath pyramid (only freestyle)? You start with breathing every second or fourth arm stroke. Then you go up in one/two stroke steps (one steps would also be a coordination exercise, as one is usually used to breath only on one side). Every (second), fourth, sixth, eighth, maybe even tenth. Then you go back down thr pyramid and repitize it until you have done it for a certain distance.

For the underlying adaptions of your body to occur - increase of lung volume, increase of your amount of blood and your body improving to cope with anaerobic metabolism- you need to do do such exercises for months. There are of course alternative exercises if you find the one explained above boring/ do not like it. Obviously diving series ( more apt if you just begin those exercises). Once you are more advanced you might also include sprint series and strictly limit the breaks between the sprints (Very exhausting exercise. One usually lowers the overall distance of the training to make up for it. It should be done rather soon after the warm up, when you are still well rested.)

Ok so I have a question. I watched another video and it said not to do the “S shape” while doing freestyle in the water. It looks like that you were doing an “S shape” can you explain on what to do because I’m confused on what’s right?
S shaped stroke is a bit outdated in competitive swimming On long distances it can be useful to olay with this technique I realized triathletes are swimming a bit different to save some energy
@GCN I am an older athlete and have stopped swimming a few years ago due to arthrosis in my right side shoulder joint. I am still dreaming of doing a lot of full length extreme events but can not do extended training efforts. Do you know of ways in terms of drills or aids to make training bearable, so I can get bak into it? #askgtntraining? (good video, again)
On youtube there is a menu function to change the speed of videos. Sometimes its helpful to slow "playback speed" to .75 or .50 to learn stuff, other times speeding it to 1.25 or above makes a painfully slow video/audio listenable. Lookup "youtube playback speed".
@@tomaszjaschke631 Cheers, mate. Am contemplating getting a clear waterproof phone pouch to review swimming instructions while in the pool... Unfort i have a short memory. But... Then again water transmits sound better than air, so perhaps dunking a waterproof bluetooth speaker into a back-yard pool and listening to the instructions on (slow) repeat is more sensible. But i dont have a backyard pool. Maybe i will just go jogging in the rain.
I am in a triathlon and swimming team... All the people who are strong swimmers are bad runners... and from the swim team... most of them are over weight ( some obese) and couldn't run a few meters, or lift themselves out of the pool but are effortless swimmers.... It's a curious 'sport'.
Clamping with the fingers is the person putting the finger too strongly together. Yes relax the fingers but don’t have gaps in between the fingers. It’s like picking up sand. Fingers spread or loosely spread with not hold the sand. But fingers together will hold it. Just like catching the water, so I don’t agree on what your saying on the fingers.

That barrel technique reduced my shoulder pain alot. Feels like finally after 2-3 years I might be able to swim without any pain

Same, I had a way better stroke once i got over the nerves of looking at the bottom of the pool (straight underneath me)

Mid scull - a great drill to do with a snorkel... you can also use a snorkel with the kicking drill you show

I can't learn how to swim front crawl. Perhaps because I'm too hunchbacked
Is it really ok to bend our legs from knees while we swim front crawl?? Because it was repeatedly shown on the movie.
I always feel like I will lose balance and so I stop kicking and then my legs sink. Any advice please.
More body tension and not stopping to kick.
Do exersises for your body tension. For example try to keep afloat without moving on your back.

13.8 seconds if you're swimming at 50 free WR pace. Which you won't be so maybe 16-18 seconds?
