      Straight up. I've seen them all. Saw the first one at age 9 in 94 and followed ever since. Yes I am in the crowd where the first two are galaxies above the rest. But inferno held me the entire time and I thought it rocked. For direct to dvd it was a huge welcome surprise.

    Just finished watching Inferno. Was actually a decent movie. The lead actor held it together well and made it an engaging watch and definitely got the sense that the filmmakers cared about what they were making. Very surprising result and far better than Bloodline.

    I love Hellraiser: Inferno and overall it's my personal favorite in the series! The fact that Thorne was shown to be a piece of shit character from the beginning made it more tragic knowing that all his efforts for redemption were all in vain and doomed from the start. His ultimate fate was very terrifying, reliving the same moments over & over. My favorite scenes were at the end with Pinhead and the way Doug Bradley delivered those lines. That's the way I feel the character of Pinhead should be; less of a demon/slasher and more of a judge who reads off one's sins before they are ultimately sentenced to Hell.

    This one was a slow burn but i felt they really nailed the ending and that makes the movie. Its really deep and adds to the lore of the franchise in a really meaningful way. That said they could have made it a little more fast paced.
    I dont think youre supposed to like the main character. Hes a bad guy getting just deserts.
    Pinhead has more screen time in this than he did in the original. It is a little different but were 5 movies into the franchise so i dont think its awful that they did something different.

    I love the fact that Inferno takes a different direction. Yes, I could see the ending coming a mile away but I enjoyed the 'horrible' protagonist in the same sense as following Patrick Bateman. 4:22: and by so many, it’s actually every direct-to-video Hellraiser except Revelations, just so the studio could keep the rights. Though Revelations was Hellraiser from the word go, the budget was so tiny, Doug Bradley skipped it. Supposedly, Judgement also started out as a Hellraiser, but the director took a bunch of ideas he made for a kickstarter movie, and just turned them into a Hellraiser script.

  • @sambeall664
    @sambeall664 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I think there’s one big thing you missed and that it was called Inferno. The theme of Dante’s Inferno and the different layers of Hell plague the Detective through the entire movie and this is one of the few times we really get to see someone trapped in their own Hell. I thought it was a ballsy choice to reinvent your story and honestly, through five movies…I feel like this is one of the most memorable of the stories. You’re meant to hate the Detective and in the end he hates himself as well as he’s constantly trapped in a prison he created himself. With that being said, plenty of negatives where I’d add much more “carnage candy” and the sexual aspect we’ve come to know from this series but you can not overlook the underlying parallel to Dante’s Inferno, that’s a huge mistake.

    Think about it. Joseph was already in hell. He opened the box, the Cenobites came, and took him to hell. Hellraiser Inferno was basically about what happens to some ppl after they open the box and get taken to hell by the Cenobites. Joseph was in his own personal hell that he created for himself. Pinhead basically said this towards the end of the movie. "All the ppl you hurt, all the appetites you indulged in, You are your own King." Meaning he created his own hell by the life he lived. Joseph was the one who didn't realize he was in hell.

      @@AmericanGadfly Well, for me I'm a big supporter of creator's and their vision. That said Hellraiser 5-10 were not made in good taste. They were not true to Clive's original vision. They were cheaply made and pump out just to keep the rights. So yes to a Hellraiser fan like myself they were a spitball to my face. They completely destroyed what was otherwise a very Elegant and different type of horror film. So I have no respect for that. Much like my thoughts on Halloween 4 all the way through RZ Halloweens. I still say, even thought this was clearly a "Spec Script" sequel, "Inferno" is still my favorite of the sequels. (Aside from "Hellbound", but that's obvious) Has it's flaws, but I enjoy the idea of Pinhead being more of a judge type and having that epic monologue at the end, the gore being cutback/offscreen, the mood and lighting, the acting for sure, Scott Derrickson's direction, and it makes for a far better "Silent Hill" film than the two we actually got. Yup. I am one of those that really enjoyed the psychological / mystery direction on display here. It's clear it didn't start out as a Hellraiser movie but in retrospect the 'off-sense', the dark brooding mood, the visuals and the great 'other side' of pinhead and lore make this a very enjoyable watch for me. Like said - they can take this franchise in a million directions - from body horror to psychological tales and it could work. This was the last one I really enjoyed though. Except for maybe the most recent one and bits & bobs in other movies.

      On point. However, I´ll say that Hellraiser plays better as intimate tales like 1. And that´s what it was trying to do.
      If you read a Hellraiser comic is basically the same thing as Inferno. In fact, most times Pinhead doesn´t show up. Just a random cenobite. As it tells a personal story and how it ties to Hell/Pinhead himself.
      .

      @davidk3184 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@justicierodelaliga I agree totally. I do own a lot of the comics and the main thing about Hellraiser are the various interpretations of suffering, temptation, wickedness, regret, hell and how they are dealt with by either Pinhead or the Cenobites. (especially the older, classic ones). Not neccesarily recurring characters. If you take that into consideration Inferno succeeds really well. Also why I am looking forward to both a movie reboot and series.

    The movie would've been better if it hadn't been marketed as a hellraiser movie. Scott Derricksen did a great job with what was given to him. Craig Sheffer is a decent actor- he's great in Nightbreed, a River Runs Through it, and Fire in the Sky.

    I actually liked this movie a lot. I thought it was very different with a good twist. The character Joseph Thorn was not likable but it was awesome to see the hell pinhead gave him. The cenobites were cool and I enjoyed how trippy this movie was. The fact I didn't like Joseph made me enjoy the movie a bit more. When Pinhead says to him welcome to hell it just hit the spot for me. Cause if you know Hellraiser you know once dude opens the box it was over for him from there. I really enjoyed this movie

    I like the fact there was nothing likable about him I felt like the movie was him coming to the realization he started out as an innocent child the way we all do but throughout life he kept becoming a little bit more cold a little bit more unfeeling till finally coming to the realization he's no longer the guy who goes after the bad guys he is one of the bad guys I'm not a huge fan of the movie but I do find the premise interesting

    I'm watching through all of them for the first time (beyond the first one anyway) and with this one I thought the scene where he first encounters the demons/cenobites was really cool and memorable, and the wheelchair man in the hospital was cool and interesting, beyond that it was less than great. But it's not completely without merit.

    If I'm not mistaken Kristen from the first two hellraisers is in the next one, not that it makes the movie any better. When pinhead and the cenobites promised they had such sights of pain to show us, do you think they were referring to the last half of this franchise?

    This was the last movie that was written as a hellraiser movie. It was a concept by Clive but in the end scott pulled 60% of the script out and added more detectve story and because of that Clive ripped his name off it and walked from the series. And judgement was always a hellraier movie. I love 1,2 3 and 4 more but its death for u from here on in
