  • Hellraiser: Hellseeker follows a man who's life is slowly plagued by nightmarish elements. Does Pinhead do a better job at taking over a generic cop thriller this time?

      Honestly, as much as I love the first hellraiser and even enjoy the first 2 l sequels, I really don’t like anything else Doug Bradley does, I mean aside from the first three movies And really only the first two are actually good movies, the third one is just more tolerable than the rest, aside from that he has a bunch of trashy Hellraiser movies and a trashy wrong turn movie

      @@Qbort. Exactly, I think fans of certain properties hold certain people in too high regard.. if people were honest with themselves they’d realize That the first Hellraiser was such a good movie because the story that it was built on, pinhead only has about 10 or 12 minutes of screen time in the whole movie, so that Bradley doesn’t even contribute very much to that movie it was good because it was a good script and had good direction. Doug Bradley did a good pinhead, I’m not taking away from his portrayal But I don’t think his insertion is what made the first movie so good

    • @AltairEgo1

      @@michaelshane5882that's not exactly his fault though. He didn't write the script he just acts it out, which I think we can all agree, he's objectively the best Pinhead, with 2022 being a close second. Doug Bradley IS a treasure, he just had the misfortunate of people directing the films not being Clive Barker. I have a feeling if Clive had stuck around, the films he starred in would have been much better.

    Hellraiser Hellseeker, the one that keeps fake outing. Funnily enough the studio cut out the scenes involving Kirsty, Pinhead, Julia, Larry and Frank. I say funnily I should mean frustratingly. Although I think Clive Barker likes this one.

  • @EntertainmentFan11
    @EntertainmentFan11 2 ปีที่แล้ว +20

    There was an extended version of Kirsty's deal with Pinhead. He tells her that he wouldn't stop until he had her soul. She tries to get back at him by saying that she brought Frank to him and his group, but he says that he is grateful for that. Anyway, Kirsty WAS clever with this deal. I honestly liked Pinhead's quote at the end, "Welcome to the worst nightmare of all: Reality." That's a memorable Pinhead line, along with the "I am pain" line in part 4. Inferno was okay in terms of the production design and Doug Bradley's performance, but aside from that, it's not really that great. Hellseeker is SLIGHTLY better, but not by a whole lot. The next one, I think, is definitely the better direct-to-video sequel. 1 through 4 are great, 5 is pretty bad, Hellseeker is okay, Deader is good, Hellworld is average, and Revelations is just not worth my time. Judgement is probably gonna be as bad as its predecessor, but I'll have to watch it for myself and then judge it.

    I prefer Inferno by a significant margin. Hellseeker trades on continuity without actually doing anything with that continuity. (Deader will do the same thing by offhandedly referencing the Merchant family line). Inferno, on the other hand, was closer to what I wish the entire series had been: a collection of standalone movies featuring various morally-corrupt people stumbling across the puzzle box. The second, third, and fourth films were too interested in developing the mythology of the Cenobites rather than keeping to the original film's simplicity, and as much as I enjoy Doug Bradley's performances in these films, I prefer him to have limited screen time. The last thing we need is for Pinhead to become another Freddy Krueger.

I also screened it on a big screen in an old medical school surgery auditorium for a bunch of my friends, so the ambience was right. This used to be my favorite and although I still love it, there are some issues I have. Kirsty opening the box made no sense and she totally didn't have to do that. She had no way of knowing that Pinhead would be receptive to her deal. Also, I'm not fond of the fact that she killed 3 relatively innocent women as she's my favorite final girl. Rite on cheers for the Phantasm shirt for me Phantasm is my all time favorite Horror Franchise!! Anyways out of all the Hellraiser movies I have seen, I hated this one the most obviously I haven’t seen abominations like Revelation and Judgement so not counting them but this movie to me desecrates Kirsty Cotton’s character, the protagonist is a unlikeable scumbag just as bad as Inferno’s main character if not worst, furthermore how is Kirsty naive enough to get attached to a person like that and in the long run gets taken advantage of cause this is Kirsty Cotten a character shown in the first 2 movies to be brave and smart enough to evade or outsmart the likes of Frank, Julia, Dr Channard, and at times Pinhead and his Cenobite posses and they basically degrade her character to something like this? Its an insult and why I hate this movie because its as dragging as Inferno but is an insult to fans of the first 2 movies and the lore. Both Hellseeker and Inferno are bottom tier the worst movies in the franchise but I’ll say this movie is the worst because its Inferno 2.0 and them some. But next movie Deader I actually liked probably the best of post Bloodline movies imo.

    This ones biggest sin is pulling the same gimmick as the last one. You know whats going on about 15 minutes in and that makes it boring.
    That being said, on paper the concept is friggin awesome. Seeing Kirsty use the cenobites to get revenge is fucking cool and that makes it at least some fun. If they had executed that concept better without the gimmick from inferno, it could have been up there with 2 or 3.
    Id place it slightly above inferno, but slightly below 3

    i prefer inferno over any of the sequels. inferno feels like a Max Payne storyline with the narration and dark vibe and then it goes even darker bringing in pinhead and going to hell. the style the pace the imagery is so cool to me the last 20 minutes of the movie is insane crazy fun

    Hellseeker kicked butt my fourth favorite in the franchise. We finally experience more of the workings of being trapped in the box. Also Kirsty solidifies herself as Pinheads ultimate nemesis

    Every one after the fourth one are actually stories that were not written as hell raiser but used the name with a sprinkle of pinhead in it. They all sucked after 4.

    I prefer Inferno. I know you didn’t care much for that one but it was one of the last tolerable sequels to me so I’ve held a soft spot for it. Plus it used to creep me out as a kid. I almost don’t want to rewatch it simply because I don’t think I’ll like it nearly as much. Simply because my interest in this franchise is long gone. I’ll stick to Barker’s books. Even his worst novel is better than the worst Hellraiser film.
    It was nice to have Ashley back for this movie but like the others past Inferno, it didn’t make a splash with me back when it hit video and I can’t imagine revisiting it now will change my opinion very much. Sometimes you just know when something is awful and you don’t need a second watch.
    Thank you for saving me the torment of going back to re-view it myself. I only watched 6 and on as a sense of duty. “I’ve seen the others, might as well watch these too.” That mentality. once I do watch them, I make a quick judgment and often bleach my mind of it and don’t think about it again until these review videos start popping up.

    This movie was alright but like you said it's more just an Inferno repeat. What's funny is this and Inferno are better Jacobs Ladder remakes than the actual Remake.

    Personally Cody I don't mind Hellraiser Inferno or Hellseeker. I'm someone who can appreciate the psychological approach that those movies took. I feel like Hellraiser just kind of became that series where the thought of Hell and what might actually be is actually scarier than the initial purpose of wha Hellraiser was thought up as. In other words it became less about the pain and pleasure with Cenobites side of things and more about the horror of Hell and how terrifying that could be

    Sorry Cody. I'm late to your review. Had to watch Canelo Alvarez fight tonight with my brother. But I'm here. Now this film is yet another disappointment for me. From Hellraiser 5 on is just frustrating and disappointing to see the lack of Barkers true vision of these characters and world in them. I hate that they weren't even Hellraiser films to begin with. But Awesome review as always man.✌
    Mabey Judgment will give you some redeeming qualities. I doubt it though being a fan of the first 4.

    I mainly just remember this movie being Dean Winters walking around with a confused look on his face, all while random women try to fuck him. Gun to my head, if I had to choose this or Inferno... maybe the bullet? But maybe Inferno, I recall that plot having more going on in it, but that's a low bar.

    This one pissed me off so much the first time I saw it. I thought it was a total betrayal of Kirsty’s character. The more I rewatch it, I realized that I was wrong on that front. It’s towards the bottom for me with Hellraiser but so are 5&7.

    This movie gets a bad rap. It's the best sequel since Hellbound. It's certainly better than Inferno. It actually has a protag that isn't completely repulsive. Outside of a couple of poor CG sequences, this is a fun enough movie. Now, if you have a laundry list of must-haves for a "Hellraiser" movie and can't just accept this as a "horror movie", then yeah, your biases are going to make you auto-hate it. But it's a fun movie. Inferno was a slog to watch. I've watched Hellseeker repeatedly. Great performances. And if you didn't think Hellseeker had redeeming factors, definitely no need to watch the reviews of the rest of the series, because... spoiler alert: THERE AREN'T ANY. Post-Hellraiser 3, the series peeks at Hellseeker, plain and simple.

    • @CodyLeachYT
      @CodyLeachYT  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      You can still write characters as likeable that have huge flaws. If they're unlikable we don't have any investment in their journey.

    • @roguebritgravy1
      @roguebritgravy1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CodyLeachYT that's a good rule. I find the flaws adds more depth to characters than if they were like the next Saint or running for Jesus. Makes them more human. Are you meaning like if they had that side where they were charismatic or had a boyish charm but they were callous or a bit of a bastard like as an example, Iron Man was in the first film, Jesse Pinkman or Tony Soprano? Like they had good intentions but the choices the world gave them left no other alternative. Thank you for your reply.
