Really liked the 2022 reboot! Hopefully means we'll have plenty more sights to see in the near future
Will be watching soon but hear it removes alot of the Eroticism of the source material and the original film and replaces it with drug addiction...not sure how it could work that way. What makes the cenobites so intriguing is that they are simultaneously hyper sexual and A-sexual, they are the embodiment of human desire while also being completely and utterly dehumanized. They are neither heroic nor villains and simply exist to share the ultimate pleasures with travelers who welcome them and call them. That's exactly what films past part 2 got totally wrong and I was hoping that this one would get it right. I hope that what I've heard is wrong and it isn't hinged completely on a "female" Pinhead and instead will present the sexless, pitiless, tempter and guide into the unknown secret pleasures of pain we read about in The Hellbound Heart.

The characters were trash . The second half was good . First half is bad
It was definitely a step in the right direction, but I can't say I like it as much as the first 4. It's my favourite after those though.
I hated it. The movie was overlong, underwritten, castrated in both violence and sexuality. It came across like they just reworked the evil Dead remake at times (only worse,) and worst of all it came across as pretentious and thinking it was better than it was while coming across as just another wink at the camera shitty neo slasher movie
I actually just finished the hellraiser movie on my Hulu account, and I’m so glad that they didn’t squander our suffering.
Only ONE transfiguration? At the end? I was expecting true body horror. Too much CGI. Like when the Cenobite with the big nails through her feet was walking up the front steps of the museum. You can just tell it was CGI. It favors style more than content and body horror. It's too censored. It's not as unhinged as part 1 or the resurrection scene in part 4 where the skin literally hangs in midair and gets "filled" with a soul. This film was way too tamed, Clive Barker was not around to correct this. I can just feel his absence. A true disappointment.

@@T_R_O_Y_McClure Absolutely. The franchise turned into a cash grab after part 3. Clive Barker's heaviest influence was only in part 1. Since he wrote and directed the movie all by himself. After that? It's all a washing machine of borrowed ideas. Take Gaspar Noe for example. All of his films, starting from the first one he ever made? Are ALL made by him. Nothing about other producers and having him in the background as a shadow influence. Gaspar's films never lose their authenticity in terms of who is responsible for it.

I feel like part 5 Inferno is really good and underrated! Its my favorite in the franchise besides 1 and 2

It’s decent on the level of a campy kinda dumb slasher, but compared to 1 and 2 it is a big step down.
I think it’s because of its simplicity. People liked the more complex elements of the first 2 Hellraiser films. It takes on more of an action slasher movie vibe. But it’s campy fun.
At least it didn't show a man kiss another man's chest🤮
Confession time: I’ve actually never seen any of the Hellraiser films. So I’ll see what to check out first based on this list.

I'm 45. I remember when Inferno came out. That movie was great. It was so original. Not what I was expecting. Loved the end. I thought the characters were fine. You're not supposed to like the main character. That was the point. But each to their own.
I’m a Bloodlines fan the future setting worked because it was a true final outing for Pinhead.

New film was pretty damn good! Loved the look and tone of Pinhead and the other Cenobites. The new film had some interesting angles to it, such as the house being an actual puzzle trap, the style of the puzzle box and how it configured, the ground opening up to reveal the labyrinth beneath and so on.

Inferno is in my top 5 lol I definitely do agree with you about Revelations. Though it is still at the bottom of my list I do appreciate that the script was written to be a Hellraiser movie and actually included the original lore. I can appreciate that at the very least. Bloodline could have been so good if the studio had just left it alone. They really ruined the movie to the point the director disowned it and put Alan Smithee as the director because they basically ruined what the movie even was meant to be.

Enjoyed the new one more than I expected. Agree on the shots of the walls and floor opening. Couldnt tell on some if it was cgi or old school camera trickery. Very well done. Not sure exactly where it lands since its still too new, but top 3 for sure

I definitely agreed with you on a lot about what you said about all the Hellraiser movies since a few of them weren't the best or even the best. What I do agree with you on is having the first Hellraiser at Number one since your able to Appreciate it and to love it as one of those classes.

I *love* the first half of Hellraiser 2. The atmosphere is great, the aspects of the occult, sex, and fantastical horror is all VERY Clive Barker. I agree that it starts to fall apart with the Dr Kennard cenobite.

I disagree. I actually thought Doctor Channard was pretty grand imo. I know it may just be me, but him as this looming threat is really cool from my perspective.
I even think the line 'And to think I hesitated...' is one of my most Underappreciated Quotes from the entire series in my own opinion
I will say the effects on him were fun as hell imo especially Channards killing blow was awesome
Came out of watching Hellraiser '22 feeling it's right up there in quality with the original. I think I even like it just a little bit better, honestly-but I'm also first to admit I don't have the nostalgia feels for this franchise that a lot of horror fans seem to have.

Did you know at the end of Freddy vs Jason it was rumored that Pin Head would make a cameo in hell while Freddy and Jason continue to duke it out gladiator style during the end scene.

The reason I love Hellraiser 2 over 1 is because 2 shows all the best of part 1 and is faster paced and interesting. I loved The reboot.

The one that I remember the most is the one you've got ranked at 3. That's probably my favorite cause I never really cared for the 1st one. Btw - You should grow out your beard really long. Legit ranking. Nice. I'm one of those "Hellbound:Hellraiser II is best" folks so I wouldn't complain if there's a switch between II and III on your list. But III was definitely entertaining. And Hellraiser 2022 is so good. The new take on the Cenobites, oh my!

I'm planning on watching the new one tonight but for now I definitely prefer to watch the first two as one long movie. If I had to pick it would be hellraiser 2.
I will say as far as major horror series go, none went over a cliff as quick as this one.
On a side note, when it comes to the new one, I love how they treated the box. It always seemed way too easy to open in the previous films.

It's funny how this movie came out the year that the first Hellraiser movie is celebrating its 35th Anniversary.
Well, at least there's 5 Hellraiser films I love now instead of 4. The first 4 and this new one are all great to good/ok. The rest are just a slap in the face to a genuine long time fan like me, and the 2% of us Hellraiser fans out there. But great ranking none the less.
I was extremely happy that they decided not to even call her pinhead in the film she is credited as "The Priest" The film was amazing!
@Randal Wilkins Clive Barker gave him the official name Hell Priest in the latest book scarlet gospels he said he would be giving him a official title and that was the name he gave him.
The name "Pinhead" is a insult used by others about the Hell Priest. It were never the official name.

I agree, the reboot was solid! Not a home run for me, but then again, none of the Hellraiser movies are a home run lol, but a solid double!
I just watched the newest one about 10 minutes ago and I would put it right next to the original as my favourite of the franchise there’s so much that they do in hellraiser 2022 that works so well from the gory to the character design even the plot is good too even tho the first act is a bit slow I can get through it. I would have this probably as my favourite horror movie of the year with Nope at 2 X at 3 deadstream at 4 and the watcher at 5 now I haven’t seen terrifier 2 yet but I am pretty sure that once I do it’s going to be in my top 5.

I have to disagree with your comments here and on your Hellraiser 2022 review. You keep saying that the cenobites are the star of the film. I would say more accurately that the focus is on the puzzle box. The cenobites are still very much background characters, and they barely get any screen time 8n the first half of the film. I watched your review before I saw the film and was, not let down but, disappointed that we barely catch sight of Pinhead for some time. It is a good film for sure, and I love the focus on the puzzle box . .. just a slightly misleading review from your part.
I’m always shocked when I see hellraiser inferno at the bottom of lists and Hellraiser 3 or. 8 so high hahahaha.
It’s also common for reviewers to say “of this script was never meant to be a hellraisers film”. Well isn’t that most movies that get made. Most die hard movies were repurposed scripts or books. But it seems to be popular to say a script was repurposed for hellraiser and have that be a bad thing. To me it’s just , a thing. Just part of the production process.
Hellraiser 5 you are right has a despicable protagonist… but again, so do most of the films. It’s “hellraiser” after all. The new film had a very flawed protagonist. What makes her and the guy from inferno work for me his how well they played their parts. I don’t need the lead to be goody two shoes.

Don't have the time to watch the new one until Tuesday but I'm stoked to hear that it is good. Since I'm not a fan of any since the original, yes some are watchable but most are dreadful a good Hellraiser will be welcome. My only question is will it eventually be released on Blu-ray? Netflix as of late does not release their horror content for us Horror Fanatics.

Alright, I been wanting to talk to someone about this with no one to talk to about this. Am I the only one on initial viewing, thought Hellraiser 2022 was boring? I definitely think it is a good film, and I thought it was done really well. But it wasn’t as gory as I was expecting AT ALL. It drug on a little too long. And I personally didn’t like some of the changes in the lore, especially with the puzzle box it self. Although I did enjoy some changes. I definitely would rank it #4 if I would rank them, almost tying it with 3. But for me the first 2 were definitely a lot more interesting. Definitely plan on re-watching. But as of now, I don’t get the absolute love for this movie as with people saying it’s top 2. I would like to see a sequel though. I personally think most people are used to horrible Hellraiser films, this one got over hyped because it’s actually decent. This is just my personal opinion.

I agree Pinhead hasn't really been handled that well at all which is a shame. Since Pinhead is it one of the most terrifying and scariest fictional characters of all time in my opinion
oh man, probably a bit of a hot take but Inferno was the first hellraiser movie I ever saw and kinda is wat drew me in. Still have a soft spot for it haha.
I've seen the first 3 and the new one, didn't know there were now 11 damn lol. I thought they stopped after 7. The new one is excellent and in the Top 3 along with original and Hellbound for me.
I've never seen Hellraiser! Was always way too scared as a kid of Pinhead and Co. Saw the Hulu ad this morning. Is it worth a watch this many years later?

Hellraiser is a good franchise. Some of the movies are better than others. Hellraiser 3 is a good.movie. I have not seen the reboot. I plan to see it. The first movie is hard to compete with.
Putting a movie at number six for having nothing to do with the franchise and admittedly being a movie so bad its hilarious is just wild asf to me.
imo 1 > 5 > 2 > 4 > rest are a blur, although i havent seen the really new ones like judgment or revelations

The first four movies is all I really need
I was ready for this to be disappointing like most of the other films. But it was FANTASTIC! Aside from being shot and paced in a very typical way, a few generic side characters, score wasn't as good as the original, & the 2 female Cenobites, that aren't Pinhead, are a bit generic. I loved it. They added to the lore without demystifying the cosmic horror/fantasy premise. Would have liked it to be a little more atmospheric and less blatant. They do change the motivations of the Cenobites/Laviathan a little and I'm not yet sure how I feel about it, but it's logically consistent within the movie. I do like that they made it clearly agnostic or atheistic. Even through heaven hell are likely mystified misconceptions the dimension of Laviathan could actually be occupied by "demons" or "angles" depending on ones own perception of those things. It's a self contained film and I like it.

I hated bloodline so much I basically gave up on the franchise. Only watched Judgement out of morbid curiosity. For me only my top 3 capture the spirit of the book and are truly great movies. Although I enjoy Hell on Earth as a dumb fun movie.
