I like your comments at the end. I own an Aprilia RSV4 RF and I'm really starting to look more seriously at bikes like this. I'm 48 years old, wife and two teenage kids. I've only ever owned sports bikes with the exception of a Virago 1000 back in the 80's (which was a disaster), but the riding position is starting to get a little old. I love the performance, sound, and aesthetics of the Ape, but I like to keep my license, and getting the most out of the bike is rare. The Diavel is something to consider..........I'm not certain I'm man enough just yet...........
Being an owner of a Diavel, this has gotta be the new one for me. Brilliant review, love the content and really enjoy your TV time John. Just need to get out a test ride one now that the weather is changing for the better.
I hope they're making their editions like the X Diavel and Carbon. I've also heard insurance companies rate the Diavel as a cruiser which is out standing for premiums. I'm
John and team - very nice review. My take as a Monster 1200s owner who rode the last Diavel is Ducati has created meaningful emotional distance w/the new Diavel supplemented with changed ergonomics, rake (which you mention), and improved rideability. Sitting on it at the NYC show here in the States, the differences are immediately felt, and as CPU UK mentions below, I also thought of the V-Max. I'm looking forward to a go once the S model lands here in the U.S. Keep up the good work.
They are both kinda lost in the middle between cruiser and sports bike, but yeah, the Diavel leans more to the sporty side while the XDiavel is closer to a normal cruiser. Anyway, they both look BADASS, they ride great and perform amazingly.

PS John you said you thought the 950 Multi was the best Ducati you've ridden yet, I can't remember if you've ridden the Pani V4? ....that I thought was the epic-ist Ducati yet.....
I like the Monster but at my age (55) and height (6ft) this Diavel looks more practical and comfortable. Still pretty light with brutal power. Next year will be the year for a new bike and I want something naked, fast and light without the contorted riding position of more compact bikes.
I think 'hotrod' is the best description - not about lap times, but point and squirt performance, show pony, and going round corners far better than expected. But the new Rocket III - that's over-the-top and probably a more fitting power cruiser.
Used to be a dude I used to see every day commuting in London on a Diavel. He’d always shoot off from the lights like a sling shot! I could never catch him on my old street triple

Ben, we can only work with the people who want to work with us, Ducati see the value in what we do. Some others prefer conventional media, like works printed in paper. We've recently been on 2 Honda, 2 BMW and a Harley launch, all of those vids will soon be loaded. Also, we have BJ working on a Suzuki SV650, can't get any more grounded than that. Lets look at the last 10 vids we've done, Diavel, Moto Guzzi, Multistrada, SV650, KTM SMC, Yamaha R125, Triumph Speed Twin, Another SV650, Indian and Honda. Looks like you're seeing too much red Ben. We embrace feedback mate and take it all on, sometimes it just comes down to the timing of the launches and we have no control over that. What would you like us to do?
I had the first version and found the rear tyre dominated the ride, forcing you to counter steer forcefully to get round corners. It just wanted to push wide all the time and scrubbed away the front tyre. Sounds like the new chassis may have sorted this?
Shamone MoFo I agree, the first model had a tendency to push wide if you let it. This model is certainly a more refined bike to ride and didn’t do what the old model did from apex to exit of a corner.
you made the comment you haven't ridden the Harley yet to compare, would absolutely love to hear your opinion on these two once you have. Any date or plans to test a Harley?
Great video. Have you ridden the older models? I had a 2015 but I kept grinding the pegs in the twisties. Rumor has it this is a little more curve friendly. Thoughts?
I have a Mk 1 Diavel (for about 2 years). The suspension is quite firm, I have it wound right off and the bike is good to ride and handles very well without too much jarring. If you turn the damping right up then it can get too harsh, but I wouldn't choose to have it like that.
As the happy and proud owner of a 2012 Diavel, I can tell you IT IS NOT A CRUISER. If you must classify it, it is a “standard”. I traded in a 2013 Suzuki Boulevard M90 when I got the Diavel. The M90 is a cruiser.

How nimble do you find this bike? Would you say the it is close in agility to the Monster 1200? I am looking for a sport bike that you can ride for a distance. Would you say this bike fits that bill? I currently have a Moto Guzzi Griso, looking for more power more agility with the ability to ride for greater distances in semi-comfort.
The rear tire makes it a bit slower to tip in and it takes a little more effort as well. Miles more comfortable than a Monster though. I did 6 hours on mine last Sunday and hopped off feeling great.
Chris M It’s not a nimble bike. It takes effort to get it around corners but it’s stable as a train. Amazing for long distances. If you want a nimble sports bike that you can also cruise, go for the Yamaha mt-10.

I like this review but I'm not sure in which market can fit that motorbike, because a roadster in Europe not always is a best seller. Maybe they will focus on selected markets, like the USA. I'm curious about what helmet was used in that review.
I owned a 2016 XDIAVEL S and have recently bought a MY20 1260. Gear box is much better on the new model, riding position is perfect for me (5’10) on the 1260. Used to get numb backside on longer rides on the XDiavel. Both bikes are amazing and i personally like the look of the XDiavel more, the Diavel is better to ride (better balance of comfort with the performance. The 1260 handles just a bit better)
Lifted_Above Lifted_Above that was intentional. EU4 emissions nonsense killed the Vmax off two years ago here in the UK. Seemed little point mentioning a competitor bike that you can’t buy new. Vmax was great fun as well, similar in lots of ways to the Diavel.
@@johnhogan8177 We do have our dark parts as well. I wonder how long the Vmax will last for USA and if Yamaha has plans to revamp it. Hard to beat that brutal tire ripping attitude and sound. The R1/MT-10 are great performers, but they don't do the sub-100-mph even 50% the way the Vmax does. Ducati Diavel has been selling extremely well ever since it first hit the market. How did we get to the point of a 1/4 tonne naked being considered light? A Fazer thou was a bit of a fatty and was still 20kg (wet) lighter than this. An SV1000 was 32kg (wet) lighter. 250kg sounds pretty heavy to me.
@@gingerbrown Go on then - lets hear why a bike that's 10+ years newer and billed as some kind of sports naked needs to be much heavier than old, cheap commuter bikes. 250kg is hayabusa weight on a two pot naked. Oh and before you say it's because it's fast remember a 1290R is only 205kg wet.

I've always liked the look of these and they are so comfortable however, I never bit the bullet due to hating the peg position of the original and in fairness all cruisers. This one though looks to have brought the pegs right back so whilst still forward it's more like a naked muscle bike.......can't wait to try one.
If you would take this to a track day, do you think it would be a great day, or would you think -I wish I hade a sportsbike/naked now instead? And I'm talking fun not timetrack comparison.
I'm in the market for a cruiser. This is a nice looking bike, but I think I like the Triumph Rocket III's look a bit better. I like the Diavel's lighter weight and power to weight ratio. Difficult choice.

I have been riding a HD V-rod night rod and have enjoyed it but I am looking for something with a bunch more stability, handling nd power. In that regard I am seriously considering the Diavel 1260S However I ride with my wife and I am interested to hear from anyone else who rides this bike with a passenger. Is it possible? Comfortable? Another bike I have been looking at is the 2019 Kawasaki Ninja H2 SX SE+ That seems a bit more practical for 2-up riding but that moves me from a cruiser to a slightly more aggressive riding position and I am not sure that's for me. Anyone with any experience with either of these bikes would be appreciated.

It's not really much of a contest this bike is much better. The Rocket doesn't stand a chance in any way, the Vmax might be a bit faster on long straights (not as much as you'd think, most of the power difference is eaten up by the weight difference) but as soon as you get to the first corner the Diavel is gone.
Well done. The Diavel is an unknown gem of the motorcycle world. It really is the best of all things Street Cruiser IMO.

I went from 650cc to this bike - it’s a torque and speed monster. 0-100km/h in 2.6sec official timing. Not that I have tried 😂

MT01, don’t see many of them about. Diavel was great fun, I’d be happy on one up the A13.
I almost bought this until I tried a BMW K1300R. The BMW suspension on rough roads won me over, as well as the 175 HP.

I owned the XDiavel and it was sick so I know this bike is even better with the same engine but with mid pegs.

I'm in the market for a cruiser. This is a nice looking bike, but I think I like the Triumph Rocket III's look a bit better. I like the Diavel's lighter weight and power to weight ratio. Difficult choice.
Muscle bike Cruiser. This and the X Diavel are unique bikes
I dont like the look of the diavel....but the Diavel X...its perfect! Why do they make both?
"Xdiavel " not Diavel X. The X has forward controls, I own an X and have ridden the standard model. Mines better!

I have been riding a HD V-rod night rod and have enjoyed it but I am looking for something with a bunch more stability, handling nd power. In that regard I am seriously considering the Diavel 1260S However I ride with my wife and I am interested to hear from anyone else who rides this bike with a passenger. Is it possible? Comfortable? Another bike I have been looking at is the 2019 Kawasaki Ninja H2 SX SE+ That seems a bit more practical for 2-up riding but that moves me from a cruiser to a slightly more aggressive riding position and I am not sure that's for me. Anyone with any experience with either of these bikes would be appreciated.

I was always looking for a bike that gave me the best of both my Victory and my B king, this may be the one.

This Vs Rocket III and Vmax would be epic.
I love my VMax but honestly this Ducati is a piece of work.
It's not really much of a contest this bike is much better. The Rocket doesn't stand a chance in any way, the Vmax might be a bit faster on long straights (not as much as you'd think, most of the power difference is eaten up by the weight difference) but as soon as you get to the first corner the Diavel is gone.
I'm actually considering selling my 2018 GT350 and getting a cheaper mustang and THIS!!! I had the 2015 Diavel and I missed it ever since I sold it.
Ducati did not create this segment of Bike, anyone remember the Yamaha VMax?
And don't forget the bike that triggered the VMax, the Magna. All engine, not enough brakes or handling. Literally scary fun.
