    Hello Jay: Thanks for this great website. I'm an 78 year old guy that has a very long bike riding history. British origionally and emigrated to Canada when I was 15 Y/O. I started with a 47 Ariel 500cc, single, basket case and then a 1950, 1000cc Square Four. I then had a bunch of them. I usually bought them in pieces , fixed them up and sold them. The last Square four. (One of the last!) It was a 1957, Series, 2. It was really smooth, and very quick. I had a twin 700cc twin Royal Enfield and then moved over to Hondas. I had three Honda, 4 cylinder bikes and a 250cc single scrambler, the last Honda I had was a early '90s 900 cc inline 4, a great bike. I 'm staying in the Baja, Mexico at this time and have just finished refurbishing a 2005,
    798 cc Ducati Monster Twin. What a great bike!! I loved working on it an even rode it for a bit.
    Anyway , I'd like to thank you again for your really great web site , I really enjoy everything , your really eclectic collection of great bikes and cars. I Also had a few nice Brit cars, a "57, 6 cylinder E-Type 4.2 liter , 2+2 , in British racing green also a '74 XJ12 also in BRG and so on.
    Jay, I tell people that If I ever come back in this world, If I have a choice, I would love to come back as Jay Leno.
    Thanks again for all you do Jay.
    Terry Southgate

    My wife and I spent 3 days leading the XDiavel demo days in Atlanta, GA earlier this year. It was a last minute deal for us to lead the rides and up to that point, neither one of us knew anything about the new XDiavel. I was familiar with the original Diavel, but not the new XDiavel. Surprisingly for both of us, we came away after 3 days or finding the bike totally impressed by the XDiavel. My wife especially who is not a fan of cruisers at all and is on the petite side was totally in love with the bike. Even though it appears on the larger side, she loved riding it and found it so easy to ride it aggressively. Ducati did a great job with this bike!
    Another surprising aspect we found from the demo rides is that we would start everyone in touring mode to give them the full power, but not the snappiness of sport mode. They could take a 2nd ride and then we would show them how to change modes and try them all. It turned out quite a few people actually enjoyed Urban mode, especially in that 35-55mph range. We ourselves felt that Urban mode worked very well and gave the bike a nice kick in the lower RPM grunt area. Sport mode was certainly a lot of fun when you really wanted to kick it up. There were a couple places we really got to lean the bikes over and again I was blown away with how much lean angle you could get from this bike and how well it handled in the turns!
    Great review Jay!

    One of these days I'd love to shake Jays hand, He's a real down to earth kinda guy period. He's genuinely into motorcycles and cars and understands their beauty, grace, styling and the freedoms you get while riding these terrific machines. Thanks Jay!

      +Armedlegally I watched this and had a similar thought. Just a guy in blue jeans , not designer blue jeans . Just a regular guy that has been really blessed and sharing all this with us . If I ever watched anything in a binge manner, it would be Jay Leno's Garage. A true automotive enthusiast and historian to the marrow that we all benefit from.

    Jason seems very knowledgeable of his own brand. A lot of times Jay gets these CEOs and Presidents on here who don't know what the hell they are talking about and almost make themselves look foolish. This is a nice change.

    • @nuggethead008
      @nuggethead008 7 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Totally agree...he talks almost like he was a gearhead (and maybe he is). Have to give some props for that.

    • @saddle8bag
      @saddle8bag 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't think either of them talked like they knew anything.
      Jay kept talking about crank torque and con rods and the CEO talked about unlinking breaks to "flat track" it. Wonder if he's ever had to make a U turn? And a "tractable" 156 hp. Yeah it's tractable because the electronics cut the ignition to keep the tires from spinning. You could get the same *real* power across the band with a much less powerful and less complex machine.
      On the bright side, he didn't wear a tie.

    As the owner of a 2020 XDs now for 4 years, I can tell you it is fantastic in stock form but once you add the Termi exhaust with the upmap, it’s simply amazing. Wakes the bike up like you can’t imagine and it sounds unbelievable.

    Great to see the master back on 2 wheels - seemed decidedly non plussed by the whole affair when in the garage but seemed to lighten up a bit when on the road - you can always trust 2 wheels to make you feel better! ...and I agree, California is a fabulous place to ride a bike, loved my time on the vanilla Diavel there this time last year.....great bike....

    Really enjoyed your report on the 701. I have recently bought a 401 Svartpillen and cannot believe how fantastic it is. I ha only positives too say... not a single negative.. it’s not a super bike or a Harley, but my mate has a Harley and wants to swop Out with me. It’s just ticks every box.. Beautiful power range, amazing brakes and at 155kg in weight it is just a pleasure to ride. You just fee in total control on the road and on the dirt. I’m 63 years old. I have found my dream bike. No it’s not a KYM duke, it’s a brand new Husky 2018 technology. You need TH-cam one to appreciate what I’m saying ... Cheers, Ken Taylor

    Good video.When the CEO of Ducati talks Jay crosses his arms like he's not really interested in what he says as Jay knows pretty much the answers.When Jay talks he unfolds his arms.When the CEO had more to say Jay starts up the bike,LOL. Classic Jay.I like Jay because of his quirks and the cool person that he is as nothing really fazes him.

    • @PeterPaoliello
      @PeterPaoliello 8 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      +Johnny Nightrider I had the same impression from the video. The CEO was an excellent listener, he waited for Jay to finish everything he was saying, not jumping in too early as if he was just waiting for his time to talk.

      +Johnny Nightrider I felt a little bad for the CEO in this one. The disrespectful regard from Jay was quite clear and I wondered what was underlying it. The comment 'at least your not wearing a tie' was quite telling. Jay seems to really like the guys who do the build themselves the real visionaries and it seems he hasn't got much time for the suits. Can't blame him... I thought the bike was really interesting and striking too!

      Your comment was funny but not true.. :/
      They look similar but the similarities are very little. The engine is different, the Diavel makes 160hp and revs higher and the X revs lower, makes 156hp and because of the adjustable valves it makes torque earlier. The suspension components and set up are different, the steering geometry, drivetrain is different as well.

    Thank you for the great videos Jay. You are awesome! The look of this bike is polarizing for sure. I've always been a sport bike rider. I hated the way it looked until I rode one. Then bought a used gen 2 Diavel a week later. Now I admire it's design every time I see the bike. It demands attention in public as well. It's like driving around an exotic car.

    This is probably one of the most honest reviews of the XDiavel yet... It really solidifies what you want to believe about the XDiavel. Although every motorcycle magazine already said it - they were all put up by Ducati in L.A... kinda hard to talk trash about a bike after you've been hanging out with Ducati legends, eating their food and drinking their booze for 48 hours... I want this thing SO BAD!

  • @PastorTDesigns
    @PastorTDesigns 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm glad you liked the Diavel X, Jay. Now, if you like the more rear set foot pegs and torquey motor, take the Original Diavel for a ride. 6 more hp and a true sporting muscle cruiser riding position is what I love after decades of riding Cafe and JDM sport bikes. I've owned my Diavel now for 4 years and Ducati hasn't made a cycle yet that I feel can replace her. You're right about us riders in Florida not having great roads to ride. Everything here in Miami is flat and straight, so comfortable riding positions rule. Keep up the great work, love your episodes!!!

    Those forward foot pegs are so cool for the first thirty minutes or so and then you discover that it’s really difficult to shift your weight off your coccyx and before you know it, your entire butt and lower spine are aching! Most bikes have their pegs in the middle....there’s a good reason for that!

    In 1988 I had a one owner 1964 Ducati 250 Monza. They were 4 speeds and 23 hp. Went maybe 80mph. My first bike was a 250 Scrambler. I owned 350 and 450 Scramblers, too. My souped up 350 had maybe 37hp and went about 105 if you had the time.....I had all the cams Ducati made, Mk3, Diana, Scrambler but no F1 cam. I had Veglia and Smiths Chronometric tachs. I bought a bunch of 250 Ducati stuff at an auction in Pueblo Colo. and sold them on ebay. Prices are pretty low on ebay, you can get some good deals. (I've also owned 3 Cagiva 500's MX, a 1984 125 Cagiva, no powervalve....a 1986 Moto Morini 501 Camel. Love that Italian stuff.)

    At the opening of the Video Jay points at an old 60's Single OHC which he says was the Monza and could do almost 100mph. We were Ducati Dealers in the 60's and early 70's and the Monza was the least powerful of all Ducati's 250/350cc lineup and even getting up to 80mph might be a stretch. On the other hand the 250cc Diana Mark 3 could do 110mph right out of the crate with the Black Roadracing Megaphone included with the Bike. This was in 1965-66, so that was very impressive for a Single. Essentially a production style Street Roadracer it was one of the fastest 250cc singles of the Day. This was even before they started coming with Desmodromic Valve actuation. They had super high gearing and with the radical Cam would Blubber until around 3500rpm and then come on like gangbusters. Had to change the Countershaft sprocket from 18 tooth to 14 because too many buyers that shouldn't of had the bike in the first place were burning up the clutch trying to get them on the Cam sooner. we had to warranty several of these before I said enough is enough and changed the gearing which limited the top end but made them more impressive to a rider in the low and mid range. Back when BSA and Triumph were making junk like the T20 Cub and C15 Star which were both OHV Singles. Ducati's bevel gear shaft driven OHC almost seemed Furturistic. They make some extremely fast / powerful Bikes which in the past have won both AMA and WSBK RRing titles. Also won a MOTOGP Title w/ Australian rider Casey Stoner. My Friend just attended the MotoGP Race in Austin Texas on Sunday said the GP Ducati was the fastest down the Straights at 217mph. Although it took 3rd overall it even seemed faster than Marc Marquez's Factory Honda. Just needs a top caliber rider like a Kenny Roberts back in the day ...

    Looks like a jet-ski with wheels. I'm all for innovation and new ideas but the Diavel doesn't speak to me at all. As a cruiser rider I like the idea of greater performance (especially in the handling department), and it probably excels in some areas, but styling is hugely important with these kinds of bikes and I know Ducati can do better and make a beautiful bike.
