Hi there, Master Gardener here. The daffs in the planter box have less room for their roots to grow, so they’re pushing out leaves/blooms earlier. The bulbs in the terra cottage pots are likely growing stronger/deeper roots before sending up leaves and blooms. Next year, you can plant the planter box a few weeks later and the two bloom cycles should catch up to each other. Anyway, lovely (and prolonged) display this way too!
Honestly you guys, you make me happy. I love it that you didn't edit out Borja getting angry about his hedge, I'm sure those big brown eyes were literally flashing! Can't wait for the next installment!
I’m just me and am barely managing my acreage. Hubby is unfortunately disabled. I’d love to hire gardeners to weed and mulch my beds to give me a head start.
I am constantly inspired by your vision, determination & enthusiasm despite complications & difficulties. Thank you for your generosity in sharing your lives.
Yew hedges can tolerate cold winds, but only if they grow up in them and establish the right root system. If you have your heart set on yes I would recommend getting tiny ones (less than 2 years old) and letting them grow in place. If you want to transplant something bigger for instant impact maybe consider a living willow hedge? Or if you want a dark green maybe holly? Edited for spelling!
Why thank you! 😆 it’s more like whilst it’s compiled each week we have a 4 month backlog of content that we have been sharing so it has taken longer than it is actually shown ☺️
That is a beautiful House and everything you have done is perfect for it. The Daffodils look amazing so far and there is more coming to enjoy. Daffodils are some of my favorite flowers they are so cheerful and as you have shown here can grow in so many different ways. I look forward to seeing the meadow. Jeff❤
It would be beautiful to have a night time dinner party in your Greenhouse with twinkle lights.... daffodils are my favorite Springtime first pop-up flower of the season and then yellow roses and then by far because they smell so great gardenias..❤❤❤
You guys are so talented and hard working. The most impressive thing is that you live your vision and make it happen. Gardens are never Game over but trial and error, you night loose a plant or three, but there is always another opportunity to grow. Don't worry about fashion, keeping it real and telling the story is more important. I don't think i noticed clothes until you mentioned it. The headband kept Borja's ears warm but was so totally 80's.😊 who needs aerobics workout when you are renovating not 1 but 2 houses!😂
There are some lovely daffodils that are scented. There are also some varieties that grow well in grass and naturalise. Eg White Lady, and the pheasant eye ones. February gold is a shorter stem and would be great in your table trough. Also grape hyacinth maybe the variety Valerie Finnis? Have you looked into the period of the daffodils that you buy? The modern ones tend to have taller stems and bigger heads and they fall over in the wind… not my favourite… You can also extend the season of flowering from January until May with the right varieties too. Love your commitment and enthusiasm.
Love, Love, Love, Love... oh yer, and Love you both, and the enthusiasm, energy and laughter... now if we could just have next Tuesday's episode tomorrow 😁🥰
Borjas expressions about the Yews is so adorable. Sorry Dean! I agree with Borja. Patience! I love watching the videos and im hopping up and down reaching towards the TV wanting to hop a plane & come give a hand. You guys are incredibly talented & capable & im so proud of you two! Everyone needs to book the Caretakers cottage and visit Coleshill & see this amazing Manor in person! ❤❤
I’m just so impressed with what hard workers you are. Maintaining all that on top of doing new projects is endlessly impressive! I can put in a load of work up front but I struggle with staying on top of stuff.
Make sweet chilli sauce it's delicious. 20 chilli's, finger size piece peeled ginger, 5 cloves garlic, 100ml cider/wine vinegar. Blend to a chunky sauce. Put in saucepan with 200g sugar and 100ml water. Bring to boil and cook to required consistency. I use frozen chilli's. Enjoy with cold meat, cheese, sausages anything really.
Love this, i agree with Borja patience is key, otherwise youll be spending the next few years digging up and splitting things and trying to find room for them😂. Yews are surprisingly resiliant so you never know. But im trying not to think about the cutting of the daffodil leaves before they go brown 😮. There are some gorgeous stronger scented daffs about.
Why not buy some wonderful Cyprus firs like you see in all over Tuscany (possibly called Pencil firs in nurserys) to replace the dead firs. Watch the new Ripley film too. Love watching your detailed and 'OCD' enthusiasm.
It's so nice every week now to be able to fix myself a cuppa (or I would If I drank tea) and sit down for a visit with my two favorite parasocial friends from Instagram! You're doing as good a job creating these videos as you are doing restoring your properties. Keep up the wonderful work. And, Dean, so glad your cough is getting better - if only for Borja's sake!😋
The trough looks rustic and beautiful filled with those glorious yellow daffodils. Well done guys a bit of hard work dirt under your fingernails and voilà and stunning masterpiece.
You re giving me ideas! I built a 12’ long harvest table but it’s painted lime green for the exterior near the greenhouse. I have a 10x20’ shade structure. Ideal for parties and crafting with friends. I have tons of 1x6” boards from an old deck. 😊 It’s also a great place to lay my garlic for drying etc…
For hedges, great barrier by the way, Portuguese Laurel which grows fast. I think you are growing them as trees at the Tiny Estate Also, for blue and white color along with your white Hydrangeas, Agapanthus. They have a long bloom time, at least that is what I am seeing here in Brittany France. You guys do amazing work! A model to follow.
I enjoy watching all your videos but especially love any that have to do with gardening! One thing I must of missed was how / when did you get rid of the rats?
Brand new here. I can fantasize about your estate and gardens. The gardens make a home. How about planting a big crop of French garlic? The kind that make fabulous aioli. At first, plant enough for your own use. Next season, consider a cash crop. Build your reputation as you go. Probably will need a fortress to keep the bunnies and deer out. Life is good with home-sourced garlic. Cheers from Colorado. xo
Have you thought of using a temporary wind barrier until the hedge is established? Yews can be cut back hard and rejuvenated, so maybe cut them back and grow them in a less conspicuous area, maybe grow it into a topiary shape.
You guys are so adorable and make such wonderful things that you have become my new addiction! I hope to see much more from you. A question about the daffodils in the trough: you put really a lot of bulbs and very close to each other, but there's no space for growth. They tend to spawn. Aren't there too many? Other bulbs (amaryllis) spawn so much and so big that they regularly break my terracotta and hard plastic vases, but that is another story.
Next spring, you plant pansies in the table container, and daffodils in the pots😊 If you want more impact, you could layer some other bulbs under, in the pots😁 I really hope you remember to appreciate the fact, that you found each other 😊 You really compliment each other so well, and I think it is amazing, that you have taken on such a huge project together 😁 By the way, would you consider doing a proper walkthrough? I have not really been able to follow along, and it would be nice to get a real idea of where everything is, whats already been done and what are the future plans.
What a great idea!! We must do a video doing a walk through! Get ideas coming for sure ❤️ Dean and I love each other so much (most of the time) specially if we are not planting bulbs together! 😂
@@mytinyestate But even though he does not care for gardening, he still went out and helped for two days - even if he complained about it 😂 And just let him. If you where too alike, you would not have as much fun - and you do need a bit of FIRE in a relationship! 😁
Sooo much work for 2 people in the garden alone. I hope you have some help. I don’t garden but I’ve heard terracotta pots can suck the water from the soil. The trough will be amazing. I build a lot from scaffold boards, love the look. Don’t know how you go screw in with the extension on your drill though, makes me really clumsy 😂 the drill for the bulbs was genius, that must have saved so much time. Don’t worry about pretty, me and my partner live in work clothes covered with paint, filler etc 😂 so glad you’ve come to You Tube, we love watching your progress ❤
I think the work clothes it’s the comfiest ever because it’s so worn and used that is our second skin! 😂😂 I am going to have to investigate more about the terracotta pots 😀
I’m so excited about your channel! I watched your tv show and I kept up with you guys so I would know when you went on TH-cam. Borja I loved seeing your mom and hope she’s going to be on your new videos too. Y’all are great and I hope this channel takes off!
Thank you so much! We really hope the channel takes off too ☺️ my mum will be in episodes for sure, she has recently been few days over here and has certainly getting her hands dirty 😂
Terracotta pots - They can be problematic for growing stuff (ie look good but crap with regard to water retention around the roots). So try sealing the inside of them with a pot sealer or water proof agent. That way the plant roots don't dry out as fast and you will have much better success. I use that black liquid rubber paint stuff you use for wet areas. Paint it across the bottom and maybe 2/3rd of the way up the inside of the pot so you don't see it when you put soil in.
That is an AMAZING TIP and actually I did hear about that, someone told me to line them with plastic inside but ai like the waterproof agent better. I certainly need them to retain more water for this growing season ☺️
@@mytinyestate Its all about how the root systems dry out and if that causes plant damage. Most plants like a consistent root moisture so drying out then sudden wet, then dry again, causes root dieback. Likewise - sometimes the roots just overheat and bake. You want to aim for constant moisture. Terracotta is notorious for releasing moisture faster when it's hot so if you seal the inside - it helps prevent that. There are special sealers for clay pots - but I just use that black waterproof stuff - Let it dry before the soil goes in.
I found your channel around 4 weeks ago and oh my goodness, you have me watching all the series here on you tube at once. You both have a beautiful house and have made me get out of my comfort zone with DIY and I now have a great love of brass/gold fittings and fixtures. Love your huge garden and the green house is perfection! It’s important to balance working inside your beautiful reno with time outside in the garden. One suggestion … buy sealant for the clay pots. You spray it on the inside of the pot and it reduces the amount of water that leaks through the pot so not as much watering is required. 😎🦘

Borja, I love you but the tiny auger that Dean is using is brilliant.
I am constantly inspired by your vision, determination & enthusiasm despite complications & difficulties. Thank you for your generosity in sharing your lives.
