Love the letter idea. We've renovated four homes, all of which were old (for the USA) and made sure we placed letters and even photos in at least two or three areas of each house, including who we were, our children, their ages, where they go to school, etc. Plus we would tell them everything we learned out the house. We found a love letter in one, newspaper used as insulation in another (fun read). In our last home we found the signatures of all of the craftsmen who worked on our biggest house as well as draft horse shoes, hand hewn nails and lots of other little hidden treasures. Go for it - go big. The people of the future will care, otherwise they wouldn't be buying your home.
Watching your videos you go thru an array of emotions from laughter, total awe of the work you both do, 🤮 when you hear about the sewage pipe bursting ( personally I would have been there with a bottle of booze for you too rinse your mouth with and then to drink) and huge smiles. You are inspiring and a joy to watch.
I think you guys are doing an incredible job on this old property, I have been renovating my French property with my wife for the last 11 years and its still not finished! I do have to say though, the putty on that bedroom window would annoy the hell out of me, it needs trimming back some more... 🙂
My reno guy found a smoke detector that is fitted into the ceiling so it’s flush with the ceiling - amazing! I’m sure Australia isn’t the only country that has them. Love your colour choices and Borja’s dancing 🕺🦘
The story about the letter, that’s remind me of the novel in French Le plancher de Johacim. About renovating a chateau in south of French the owners found under the wooden floor the story of the wood carpenter and the village written underneath from the late medieval time I think. Great book. A true story also.

We used to have an open fire. We would take turns going to the coal shed. I hated it, was frightened of spiders 🕷️ and that was just one fireplace. Imagine having to do this with 20 fireplaces !
You two are adorable. You work so hard and are so passionate about renovating, I sometimes worry you work too hard. Remember to stop and smell the coffee every now and then 🦋
What about putting in some dehumifiers in the house...you may want/need to add a fan or two but that should make a difference. It wouldn't hurt to try it out anyway. 🎉
You should install a PIV unit to help fight condensation and mould. I’ve only just stumbled upon your series so binge watching. As a joiner and builder I’m really enjoying seeing what you guys are doing. Keep it up!
You can save a great deal on heating. I understand it’s a huge place but downward vents on the end of the upper ceiling that blows down on the wall, the vent in the kitchen should run the length of the wall, just a little slit instead of having it fill the whole room to heat the room to heat the walls. You are heating just the walls and or here’s an idea you might want to try it how do you heat the floors? Perhaps you could heat a wall just an idea. Just make sure that they are deep enough that you’re not going to nail into them with a picture or something else When was the last time you had mold on your floor that was heated?

The cottage is absolutely stunning, your attention to detail really stands out. The raised bath idea is genius and looks so good. The new fireplace looks fantastic. I paint a lot of furniture with glass and always paint onto the glass and scrape but I spray the glass with a little water or glass cleaner and use a razor blade. Just score round the edge first then it comes off in long strips really easily 😀 Smoke alarms and the like drive me mad , you can get black but that’s not much better 🤦♀️

The bedroom looks great and spacious, that chandelier seems to be born for it and the terracotta tiles look gorgeous! The fireplaces are so big that you could bake loafs in them :-) Maybe backing is in the plans? Do you have one of those huge wood fired ovens that were so common back in the days?

Could you wrap the letter in acid free tissue paper, together with your letter maybe put in some things from the past and something from now, a time capsule in an airtight container. 😊
Careful with the lavender spray. While most people have a peaceful night's sleep because of the lavender, it works the opposite for a few others. They have terrible nightmares and sleep paralysis!
better to not put the old letter in plastic, wrap it in acid free tissue paper and then an acid free cardboard envelope. have to admit - it's been a while i followed a paper conservation class at uni, so perhaps double check with someone more specialised in this matter 🙂

YOU need to creat a nice smoke detector. You're both very creative. Design one or a few different designs, hire an engineer and make proto types. Just remember to get them design copyrighted . You Can Do It 👍

I think some people cover unused fireplaces in an effort to hold heat in the room. I imagine fireplaces that old do not have dampers.
Most likely either heating, loss of heat, un-safe to use and couldn't afford repairs.

Have you tried the film you paint onto the window glass that then is peeled off after you paint the window trim??
We haven’t , we have heard a lot about it… seems too good to be true 😆
Put vaseline around the edge of the glass panes before you paint the trim. Much easier to scrape off the splashed paint.

The dust that you’re putting in that one room is slightly too large too wide if you trim it down a little it’ll be great, but it’s slightly too large. You should be able to see a little bit more of the wall on each side.

In New England (US), fireplaces were often closed when they installed stoves, which were much more efficient for heating.

Totally agree with a paintable smoke detector. You could try priming it with asp think from zinzzer, it allows you to paint on plastic.
We thought about that too! But apparently a smoke detector can’t be painted because might not be able to detect the fumes as effectively 🤷🏽♂️
