I have this monitor, and in the beginning I was like hmmm should I change it , but now I really like it and don't regret it.
i got a 48" monitor during Black Friday sale, it was the cheapest OLED screen larger than a regular 27' and it's 4k. I got it more for gaming and double as a TV for online anime/drama and it's worked great for gaming so far (haven't watched anime yet). I have a working MacBook Pro that i'm still using for work related stuff and random video watching. I thought about eye strain, so I've been sitting about 1 meter away from the big monitor, having the brightness as low as I can and keeping my system on the "dark mode." Plus this monitor has an anti-glare screen, which I think helps a lot. Before I got this big monitor I already have anti-glare films on my MacBook Pro and iPhone.
At first I was worried I'd be missing out on the "Gloss" that OLED usually has but from what you showed in the b-roll. It looks gorgeous! I want one for strictly gaming and watching movies.
That gloss is kinda a good thing. Just look at Apple screens!
Bought this monitor literally a week ago. The old 32" is sitting on the sidelines, while I make the decision to stay at 48" or not. And so I have a question: Jesse, what settings did you use for wiorking and for gaming?

I think once you find yourself actively trying to back away from a monitor to get a more comfortable view, then that means the monitor is too big.
The 42 is the best size for sure. I first bought the C3 42, but returned it for a 55 (big mistake!), then went for the Odyssey G9 OLED, and now today picked up the 48 hoping this will be the sweet spot-it ain’t. Neck pains galore on all except the 42. I’m going back to the 42 again!
🔥 Awesome! Can I get your opinion? I can’t decide between the Samsung 49inch oled for productivity or the LG C3 42in 4K oled (TV). Any thoughts? (fyi using M2 MacBook Pro). Looks like if I did 4 screens of equal size on the 49inch they would each be about 18 inches diagonally and if I do 4 screens on the 42 inch (2 on top and 2 underneath), each would be about 21 inches. So looking horizontally between screens on the 49 inch vs looking vertically on the 42 inch. Also 1440 vs 4k for image quality, even though pixels per inch are about the same. @@ABtheMC In my opinion I would still choose the LG 42 inch TV. Looking at it from top to bottom did not hurt my neck and eyes because the size is just right; I did not find myself tilting my head up or down but only moving my eyes. Of course I am sitting at an adjustable desk that is 36” deep which is enough space for viewing. I also found using the LG 42 was easier to understand (fool proof) when compared to the Samsung 49. In terms of image quality the 42 is excellent but can’t lie, the 49 is indeed better. The one con about the 42 is there is not enough space for a soundbar since the feet sits low, but if you plan to have the Mac sit to the side of the tv and not underneath then it won’t be a problem. After having both the 42 and 49 I felt the 42 met most of the standards I was looking for in a pc monitor/tv.
I have been using multiple monitors for over 20 years. Replacing multiple monitors with a 49" 32:9 (for 49" 32:9 over 2x24" 16:9) was actually really great. I previously had 3 over 3 16:9's. The new setup going to more or less 2 over 2 made me want something like a 48" 16:9 single monitor.
Previous setups include: 3L, 3 over 3, 32:9 over 2L
Current is 49" 32:9 over 2 24" 16:9's. For CAD and video/photo editing, it is great. I can dedicate an entire monitor to a reference document, or easily set up multiple windows in CAD. I am considering 4x 27" 16:9 or 2 21:9's or 2x 32" 16:9 or a single 48" split into quads.
However, with the 32:9 display, which is basically 2x 27" monitors, i find myself leaning to one side quite often instead of just dragging the window to the middle or side I am focused on. 48" (basically 2 over 2 24") is a little narrower and I don't find myself leaning of straining to the side as much.
As someone needs 4 windows open at a time I was thinking about this monitor but after hearing about all you discomfort, I'm now considering the Dell UltraSharp 43 4K USB-C Hub Monitor - U4323QE. Thanks for you help!
Appreciate the honest feedback. I am just now looking at both the 48" LG OLED48C44 TV and the ASUS ROG PG48UQ. I am leaning more towards the LG (just my personal preference, I guess) but I do realize the ASUS has more facilities to make it work as a regular PC display. We'll see what happens. 😄
I get it that 48" is even bigger than my LG 43" but I consider mine the best buy ever. It's got a fixed height, with the bottom bezel on 3.5" above the desk and the top just above my eyes when I sit straight up. I have 135-degree desk, so the monitor stands in the corner, with the screen arm length from me. I have reading glasses that focus on that distance. It's been a huge productivity boost and more more comfortable than my 32" 4K display where I had to tweak fonts to pleasantly read text.
Your screen layout issues are probably a Mac issue; with my Linux workstation and can have my windows any size and anywhere. I typically have 1/4 of the display for my browser, 1/8 above that for Slack, half a dozen terminal sessions and editor windows, a PDF viewer, etc. My laptop is on an arm next to it, and I typically use that with the built-in webcam for video calls.
what monitor is that exactly? Is it a TV as well or more productivity monitor? What is the PPI? Is it good fro daily text and photography? Thanks.
eye strain - use smaller windows on screen
top of screen to high - use smaller windows and lean your body back instead of cranking neck if looking to top of screen - your chair doesn't even have a neck support so not sure why you are whining about ergonomics.
I got a 72”x39” butcher block from Lowe’s for my standing desk and the 48” C3. For me at that distance 48” is great for my use case which is mainly programming and gaming.

Honestly, some of your content was why I jumped into the C3 as a monitor. Although I went 42 inches bs 48. and based on your conclusion it seems like 42 really is the sweet spot for this type of set up. Heck I actually bought two 42 oleds for a his and her setup. In fact, selling my 40 inch LG ultra wide 5K…
One of the tipping points for me is that I end up screen sharing quite a bit and it just made it so much easier to share content with a 16 x 9 aspect ratio versus any of the ultra wide scaling shenanigans. Not to mention the screen real estate is game changing compared to an ultra wide. I’m the type that fully utilizes those 4 windows…
Even have it set up to both a Mac and PC with a KVM based on another old video of yours! Hah. I wouldn’t sell your previous advice short man! It’s completely changed my world.
Hey i have 40 inch Lg ultrawide 5k monitor , but I'm planning to get LG OLed 42inch as monitor, would u recommend it? Or u prefer ur 40inch ultrawide monitor. Pls let me know the cons and pros

@@Rose-oh6ukyes I personally highly prefer the 42” lg c2/3 over the lg 40uw. My uses are mainly productivity/ video editing with a bit of consumption/ gaming occasionally.
A stacked setup would probably be a bit much for most people’s preference. Like he alluded to in his video with a 48 inch he was already complaining of a lot of extra head movement and strain. A solo 42” oled is my Goldie locks .
Not sure your 40” UW preferred resolution and scaling- But I think most are a bit crammed with max resolution. The lg 42” oled maintains 16:9. So that’s what I was referring to in comment one about scaling being weird on a 21:9 aspect ratio 40 uw.
@@amarshall621 Thankyou Yeah I think a stacked would be too much. My main goal was to get a 42-inch tv and attach it to my wall mainly for (Netflix), but then I thought if I get an OLED TV, why not use it for my advantage as my main monitor. The main problem is now I don't know what to do Lg 40inch Utrawide 5k monitor.
so if I have 3 of these I would be able to basically have 12 smaller screens, meaning each one divided by 4? so if you add another or two other monitors you can split in 4 on only one?
For gaming on a 32:9 try flawless widescreen, can add support for widescreen for a lot of game that dont support it
Hey Jesse, i would like to know which monitor arm you are using.
There's an easy way to solve the deep desk requirement, just get a tall wall-leaning TV stand and place it against the wall, and move your desk to the appropriate comfortable distance, gives more space for your desk and fixes the viewing distance issue.
I've used a 42 inch for half a year and I am enjoying it quite immensely! First and main metric of liking the thing is to have feeling inside of longing to use it again. You are lacking it, it may be not your thing, but I have it. More than any monitors I had.
1 - The screen size is awesome for me. I sit at 96 cm from it, it is a recommended distance and I don't need head movement to see all the corners (but I still do it a little because it is more comfortable). Still I am not dual-monitor person, I prefer to use one main window 90% of the time, and it is not spread over whole screen, I put it like 50-60% of the screen area in center top position. I place it higher than center because as you said - screen center is kinda low for a good posture.
2 - Colors are the best. It's an oled TV, and I had some itch to have best colors and deep blacks on my screen. To the point that I think I'm not fully appreciating the art of some films and games otherwise. It is very subjective, the importance of the colors, also it requires very tricky monitor settings, to have both vibrant colors and more dull colors for a "reality", otherwise it's either too dull or too trippy colorful.
3 - Gaming is one of the greatest thing there. I am kicking back on my chair, take out controller and play games full screen. That's where big size plays the most good thing. With every other screen option I had some gripes, but not with this one, just perfect!
4 - Small things of being a TV - TV remote is kinda great, I use it with laptop so having the ability to watch films\youtube without any computer is a big plus! Also it has very good sound - no complains here either.
You may say that I am not using full area most of the time, then why I need that big of the screen? Sometimes it just off-windows like chats or music, where I can look for changes occasionally, it is easier and prettier to do in a big screen rather than furiously spaming alt-tab. But I see it that way - I have a big canvas to do anything that I want. I can watch cinema in 21:9, and also I can read documents in 9:21. It's just like switching to A3 piece of paper after using A4 - It's not that you need to fill all the canvas, it's more about the ability to move more to left or right if needed. You are less constrained!
As for negatives I've encountered:
- Main thing I worry too much for burn in. I removed my background image, I've deleted program shortcuts from my desktop. I try to always disable screen when I walk away from the screen. Most of the things are happening in my head and overreaction... It's also probably because I love this thing so much.
- This is a TV, it needs to be power on and off via remote. So it is one more hurdle and a little more time to put on. Given that I'm putting it out every time I stand up from desk, this could be more hustle than needed. I do thing that I didn't thought out the workflow here. May be putting screen saver at all times will remove both of the problems.
- Brightness instability. For some reason when the whole screen shows white it is noticeable less brighter, almost feeling like it showing grey, not white. It's something to do with peak brightness of the spot and whole screen brightness, but it is very noticeable. Also when I play strategy games the screen lowers it's brightness every minute and needs big screen changes to put it back.
- I don't think it is a good TV experience. I think TV's should be more than 60 inches. Don't get me wrong - it is awesome for gaming or solo watching. But if you have friends or girlfriend - it's a little uncomfortable.
I have use now 49" Samsung 4 years. I still love it for all purposes. Mainly i use it for, work 60%, games 20%, movies 20%.
Now i want to try some changes. And this video really wake same doubts what i had earlier. 4K got more pixels than 5K. And i need pixes in my works. But u should not look monitor up or down when use it long period of time.
Anyway C4 48 price is now so good so i buy it and try it. And very much likely i m gona still use my 49" later again. Before i try Samsung 55 ARK. Issue was too less horizontal pixels.
Actually i also waiting Samsung G9 57 price to drop some. I think it is my perfect screen when need to pick only 1 for all use.
My 50 inch neo qled is a tad too tall and needs a curve to be desktop appropriate imo. A 42 or 43 inch screen with a curve would be optimal for a 16:9 ratio imo.
Hmmm... is ther something like fancy zones on mac? Have you tried that? I know thats what a lot of ppl use with huge monitors like this. They put a 16:9 at the bottom center as the main "window" and the other open spaces above and the sides act like small monitors. Another person did the same but with all these other mini window slots so he can adjust the main window quickly and easily. I k ow a. Lot of ppl who also has found a 55 in monitor/tv to be very usible with programs like fancy zones

With fancy zones the 48 is perfect for my needs - I have the ultra wide setup in the bottom and then smaller window to that holds mail
And music/youtube where I don’t need to look at I all the time by can glance and see it ;)

38 inch 4k is the perfect size, not too small that you have to scale DPI, and not too big causing neck pain. Only one monitor in the world exist and asus makes it (ROG Swift PG38UQ) its also 144hz too

What's the point of a display light? It seems pretty useless and even annoying to me? I mean i understand lights for the keyboard and mouse and idk but for the display? I don't get it

I think large 40inch+ 16:9 monitor are going to become more and more popular in the coming years. ultrawide is the new cool thing right now, but really their isn't a big cost difference from a 48" 16:9 monitor and say a 49" Ultrawide, but with the more traditional 16:9 aspect ratio your getting all of the extra vertical pixels, so for those that want an ultra wide for productivity, etc you can just leave the extra pixels black to have your 21:9 ultra wide aspect, but if you play a video or game on it later on, you have the option at least of getting and using all those extra pixels in the more standard 16:9 aspect ratio. Wendell from Level 1 Tech mentioned to Linus a while ago after linus swapped out some Ultrawide gaming monitor for a larger format 16:9, and personally I think for the people who have the desk space, and overall room to house these living room size monitors, I think your going to see more PC gamers go to these size and type of monitors.

see if you sit further away from the monitor... and adjust the aspect ratio more visible
48inch is really nice for single player gaming and immersion...but 42inch is honestly a better choice for comfort.
Get an 80cm deep desk. I did. Even at a smaller screen. It's better.

Problem is I already have Lg 40inch ultrawide monitor but I really want the 42ich oled one as TV and monitor but then I don't know what to do with the second first monitor. Whats ur thoughts? If u already had LG 40inch ultrawide monitor would u go for LG oled 42ich c3 as second monitor stacked together?
As for me, the one big problem with TV is the glossy screen and reflections on it.
I bought this monitor and it is being delivered tomorrow. I might just keep it for 15 days and then trade it for a 42 inch monitor, we will see:)

OLED known to have pulse width modulation (pwm) for dimming it can cause headaches, ips lcd screen is better
I also want to comment on Jesse usage. Advice to lessen the problems here.
1 - Your main problem is that full screen windows are too big, two windows middle not often used, four windows are even more unnecessary. So you have uncomfortable state. I had the same problem. As I can see from the video you've decided to split your screen in two windows right in the middle. I think that was the biggest mistake. And all of your problems in this situation stems from this. Your windows are too tall and too low to be comfortable, as you've said yourself. And your windows are always off-centered, in the middle is border between two! And you're using one window most of the time. You've made this placement, and then whine about it. The solution is - dark wallpaper plus main window in center of the screen. You don't really need to move the screen, if you can just move and resize the window for your comfortable posture. Other windows can come and go, be on the sides, as they are not as important.
2 - You are too close to your screen, given that massive 48 inch size. I am sitting a little further than you, and I have 42 inch TV.
3 - You can adjust brightness of your screen if eyes are fatiguing more quickly. That solves the problem too.
In general I think that big screen is just... a big screen. It's not 4 monitors glued together, it doesn't have same workflow as ultrawide etc. It is your giant canvas, and given that you have an oled screen - disabled black parts doesn't distract you as a LCD screen would do. I generally think that 42 inch is very specific and tricky size, not for everyone (yet I love my setup). 48 inch is even more specific and tricky. I've seen a guy who used 55 inch and had some problems.
So a 32" inch monitor would be the best for you! Yeah it is waay smaller and you can still fit 2 perfect sized windows one next to the other
