  • In today's video, I share my experience using the LG C2 48" as a monitor for my MacBook Pro. I'll share everything my unboxing experience and help you decide if you should use the LG C2 or C3 as a monitor for your creative workflow!

    I share whether the 48" size is too much for practical use and if you'll be better off with the LG C2/C3 42" or even a smaller monitor. We also explore how the pixels per inch can impact your productivity experience and provide an example.
    Depending on your setup the LG C2 could make sense, but you want to make sure you have enough desk or room space before purchasing this large TV.
    If you're focus is productivity or entertainment, I share my opinion if your better off with the 42" vs. 48" vs. 55". I'll also explain why I ended up going with an LG 27" 4k display instead of the LG C2 48" display.

    What size tv/monitor are you planning to go? Are you considering using the LG C2/C3 as a monitor?

  • @efficientapp
    @efficientapp 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    Totally agree, it's a tough call going with a TV as your monitor, though the suggestion you made of having it mounted on the wall to be further back is a good one, it does beg the question, why not just get a smaller monitor to have up more closely? The entertainment aspect (movie, gaming, etc.) is definitely the piece that makes it a consideration.
    I for one switched to a 4K Dell about 6 years ago (after going dual then 3 monitor setup-realizing that it caused some neck issues and finding I only really used 2 not 3 displays), and since making this switch, I've been sold on the 24-27" 4K/5K monitors.
    Andra and I both got the Studio Display (was SO tough justifying the price), but it just works the best with Mac (e.g. immediate wake from sleep, fantastic audio for built in, and just looks beautiful). That said, insanely expensive. The $400-500 4K line of monitors gives you more than enough pixels on the screen to have 4 quadrants of 1080p if you want, and that's more what I've been sticking to.
    It's so funny though... Monitors are so close to being a TV and TV's that of monitors. Why is it so difficult!
    Great comparison though and totally makes sense you're staying with the monitor in the end!

    • @pauldittus
      @pauldittus  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I agree.
      So do you still use 2 displays or the single Studio Display? The Apple's Studio display (like their other products) looks solid.
      💯 I am not sure why TV companies don't add monitor functionality to their TVs. The only reason I could think of is if it changes the tax category. I know this is a thing for cameras. I know Samsung has a hybrid monitor so it can be done.
      Do you find the text too small at the native 4k on the ~24-27" displays?
      Thanks as always for stopping by the channel!

      You’re most welcome my friend! Happy to help 👍
      Great question. One thing to consider is that it won’t automatically turn on and off with your computer waking/sleeping (I know this is the case for the LG C2 and I’m guessing for the C3 as well).
      That said, for an OLED display it’s hard to beat the price and features that the LG C series packs for the price.
      Regarding the clear text it’ll likely be slightly better than the 48”. Also important is your viewing distance. The further from the display the less likely you will be able to distinguish individual pixels. I go into this a little bit with my explanation of the PPI/ pixel density.
      I personally ended up going with a 27” LG 4k monitor because I found a great deal. The LG 32” 4k displays are also worth considering. The Dell and Gigabyte brand 4k displays were also on my consideration list. Is there a way for you to look at the 42” LG C3 in person? This might help you get a better feel for it.
      Are you planning to use it for entertainment and/or gaming? If so, you get the best of both worlds. Also if you end up going for it, I would love to hear your thoughts on using it as a monitor.

    • @pauldittus
      @pauldittus  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I know the feeling. It’s such a small price difference between the 2 screens. I would say definitely consider the following: your viewing distance and your primary use case. If you’re mostly using it as a productivity monitor I personally would likely consider the 42” first. On the other hand if you can have a decent viewing distance, have the room on the desk/wall, and mainly use it for entertainment or gaming then the 48” might be better. If you can see a 42 and 48 inch side by side in person it might help to get a feel for it.

    as a software developer, I need much screen space
    I started with 2x24 inch displays, then bought 43 inches TV, then downsized to 40 inches, and now going to 48 inch + 24 inch old LCD display.
    Why?
    Just because I can keep messenger on 24 inch, then IDE + web browser, or another instance of IDE next to the first one, or just one IDE with 2-3 vertical tabs with source code.

      @@pauldittus I think that if an user is not a gamer and the primary usage scenario is to work with information - then there is not much difference in terms of picture quality (or at least I can't recognize it).
      So replacing not-so-big pc display with huge TV panel, in my case, is not a bad idea.
      Huge screen in front of me at 2+ feets - why not? I just imagine that I am looking at an array of 20 or 24 inches 4 LCD displays - nothing can stop me to give a glance at one area or another.
      Picture quality on huge TV panels does not degrade at 45 degrees - or, once more, I don't see it.
      So my suggestion to folk who work with lots of information (and occasional gaming) - do not care about display kind.

    Ok, here's the main problem, your desk is too small and the TV is too high up. I use a 55" C2 and it is STUNNING and works perfectly as a monitor and becomes a cinema / games room as well after work hours. The trick is to have a deep and long long proper office desk and have it on the same level as the keyboard so the center of the TV is at eye level and push it right back to the edge. My version has the C2 swivel stand which allows you to safely overhang the back of the stand over the desk edge nearer the wall. With that setup, it's a dream and not too big. The 55" is not much more than the 48 or 42 and is also is much a much brighter EVO panel with a nicer stand (I recommend the swivel stand not on the LA version for the reasons above). PC-wise I look at Excel docs and more and there is zero pixelation, everything looks clean and smooth . Someone zooming in with a camera makes it look dotty but the reality is not like that AT ALL. My desktop icons and docs look crystal clear and sharp edged. The only thing you need to be aware of is putting the taskbar and icons into hiding mode and have a rotating set of darkish images like mountains and night sky as a revolving wallpaper to reduce any risk of burn in. Do all the above if you have a big enough room and you will not be dissapointed.

      @@pitersolonovich1609 Nice! I'm not sure if they added the feature to the C3 so that might be something worth exploring. I completely agree though. It would be so useful if TVs also had the auto wake/sleep functionality. I couldn't imagine it being that hard to add.
      The only reason I could see is that maybe they're defined differently for tax/marketing purposes. I've seen some weird rules in the camera industry due to this. For example they have to add recording limits for a camera to fall into a certain category.
