In Indonesia we call it Pastel and we put a little piece of boiled egg in it on top of the potato and veg and eat it with spicy peanut dip. Yummy 😋 I've been living in England for 18 years I'm finally able to make this last year during first lockdown. Never tried making this style of pastry though I will try this recipe for sure

Chicken curry puffs are my and my husband’s all time favorite snacks! I’m so glad you are showing me how to make them. I’ve only made them once using spring roll wrappers as a substitute for the pastry because I didn’t know how to go about doing so (and I couldn’t find a video that would demonstrate it in English 😕). Thank you Marion! I’m going to try your recipe but add chicken!! 😁😁

I make some samosas with my mother about once a month and I make a very similar filling, but instead of curry powder I use a blend of cinnamon, cardamom, clove and cumin in a ratio of 1:1:1:2. It tastes good. I love your recipes and I will make curry puffs next time. The dough looks so good!!! Thank you for the recipe Marion!!! You rock!!!

Gujiya shaped samosa...(Indian sweet 'gujiya' and snack 'samosa')
Gujiya - made with suji or all purpose flour stuffed with a mixture of sweetened khoa and dried fruits, and fried in ghee. Typically made during the festival of colors, Holi.
Samosa- fried or baked pastry with a savory filling like spiced potatoes, onions, peas, beef and other meats, or lentils.

Cool! The curry puff origin in Malaysia is from the British. They introduce the Cornish pasties (a big version of this and it is baked) brought over when they colonized the area. We fry them instead have varieties of filling. I love the sardine ones, favourite thing to have during Iftar (had it almost everyday from favourite kuih vendor).

@@daisuke910 I think the British were in most countries in the world that they overtook and colonize. So these kinds of foods were brought over. In the West Indies we have pastelles and different kinds of savory pies.

Lovely recipe. I love stuff like this, my curry powder, such as it is is 1tablespoon of cumin, 2 of coriander, one teaspoon of turmeric, 2teaspoons ground ginger , as much chilli either ground or flakes as I fancy, and then sometimes add cinnamon 1/2teaspoon, sometimes fennel about 2 teaspoons , asafoetida, cardamom are sometimes extras. If I use shop bought I buy mild and add to it according to the taste I fancy. I love chaat masala in all its forms. It’s so sour. Beautiful crimping!

Chef Marion is my beautiful charismatic friend ❤now, I just learned definitively the proper way of crimping an empanada! And yes Chef Marion, the Spanish empanadas are crimped exactly the same way and it’s water, flour, egg for its pastry shell and it’s empanadas filling is …..ground beef, chopped white onion, tomato sauce, garlic powder ❤good eats and treats 😊cheers

Singaporean curry puffs. How I miss you! The most surprising thing was last time I was there the sardine ones were a revelation.
