Finally a review I can hang my hat on! Appreciate the effort you went to to provide us with this great review! Love the fact you used tools such as sound / moisture meters and didn't brush over navigation issues. I'm still trying to determine which one to get - thats iRobot j9+ Combo v this Ecovacs X2 OMNI!

This is most honest review I have ever saw I appreciate u for that
*There is one missing also u can add it to the video which it was rushing it hits the wall with out any reason and continuesly hitting until the bumber sensor got broken
*I advise anyone wants to buy this is to wait like 6 months until they make all the updates necessary for fixing all the issues
*Or buying T20(which is missing Avivi camera and water tank) or even buying X1 has no issue in the robot system it is great robot(only missing mop lifting which is unpopular at that time that is released)

Shocking that they send the robot out to market in this condition. Using customers as your testing is not acceptable but its not the first time ecovacs have done this. Its a shame because on paper this robot had it all.
Looking forward to the comparison video Jamie.
In a.side note my L20 has developed a technical fault with the auto empty. So far Dreame's customer service is lacking - sometimes its not just about how the robot perdoms but also how the company performs. We shall.see

As expected, a nice review! My family friend, who bought both the X2 and Dreame L20 Ultra, had a lot of issues with YIKO on the X2. He gave up after multiple tries. He also found the logic to be super dumb. He recently bought the Dreame L20 and was shocked at how much more efficient the L20 is at navigating. He absolutely loves the L20, way more than X2!

    • @jamie.andrews
      @jamie.andrews  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

Thanks! I had better luck with Yiko this time. On my older OMNI stations I have to disable Yiko or it will respond to the TV daily. Plus it was never able to hear me over the vacuum. That has changed, which is big, but yes we are still left with it not being able to understand what I am asking. Language issue. On a side note I am surprised more people don't speak of the concerns of having a microphone actively listening.
I am sure you saw Vacuum Wars video on the L20. Enough said.
Have a good day and thanks for your support!

This might get a bit long but I did get this robot earlier this week and thought I would talk about my findings. I will also talk about one thing that may not matter to most users of these robots but for me it makes a difference. I will talk about that first. I'm a blind person so I can't read print. I use speech software on my computer to read the screen and I also use the screen reader that is built in to smart phones. I do have an Iphone and a Google Pixel 7 and I have the Ecovacs app installed on both of them. The iphone has a built in screen reader called voiceover and the Pixel has a screen reader called talkback. With my other Ecovacs robots, I'm able to use all of the features and change all of the robot's settings. The only thing I can't do is divide rooms or modify the map, that requires you to draw areas on the screen and there is no way for a screen reader to read that. I'm fine with that, I always have my robots clean my entire place each time, a two bedroom apartment, all hard floors, no pets. If you look at the interface for the T10 Plus or the X1 Plus, settings such as changing the suction or the number of times to clean are very easy to find, each setting is a separate item. Also items such as map management are clearly labeled. So, I was disappointed when I started to use the interface for the X2. There is no way to change these settings using a screen reader with the X2. I asked a sighted coworker to look at the interface and the way you change these settings now is all graphical, no text labels. Another item that I can't use is the map management option, it's an unlabeled button at the top right of the screen. Some controls work fine such as changing the amount of time for drying the mops but the option to set how often the X2 should return to wash the mop pads is also inaccessible, both screen readers see the 10, 20, and 25 minute options as one control so I had to get sighted help to set it to 10 minutes, I was able to change the suction and mop wetness settings using the Yiko voice assistant. I ordered the Roborock Q Revo and it should arrive today and hopefully this model will be as accessible as the S7 Max V and S4 Max that I have, Roborock does seem to keep a fairly consistent interface so hopefully the Q Revo interface will speak fine.
Now on to my other findings. Setting up the robot was easy, I had no problems attaching the ramp to the base station and figuring out how everything worked. I was also able to figure out which water tank was which based on the inside of the tanks. When I got the robot connected to the internet, there were two firmware updates, I originally had version 1.3, it updated to 1.7 and then to 1.7.5. I'm not sure what has changed with each update, the change list didn't mention anything really specific. When I sent it out for its first vacuum job, it did a map run first before starting the cleaning cycle. I'm not sure why but the robot still runs the vacuum motor during this process, the X1 Plus and T10 Plus also do this. I was a bit disappointed with the battery life, I always run all of my robots on the maximum suction power that they offer. If the robot has the power, why not allow it to do the best job that it can? The X2 has a 6400 MAH battery and is unable to do a two times cleaning job on my apartment on one charge. On the max plus setting, the battery is drained quite fast. Interestingly, my X1 Plus is also unable to clean my place twice on one charge, but my Roborock S7 Max V can and both of those have a similar suction power. One new thing I noticed on the X2 is that when switching rooms, the robot turns off the vacuum motor. This probably saves a little battery power. I should also mention that I turn obstacle avoidance off on my robots that offer it. I pick up things that could cause problems and sometimes this feature can mistake something for an obstacle and prevent all areas from being cleaned. One thing I definitely notice with the X2's navigation, it bumps in to things more than my other robots. Even with object avoidance off or when using robots that don't have this feature, sometimes it will bump in to something but it's not that common. It does seem to clean really well though I had to turn the suction down one setting in order for it to complete the job in one charge.
Now on to the mopping, and here I found a major bug but I'm not sure what caused it. I don't like the idea of keeping water in the tanks all the time so I didn't fill the clean water tank until I was ready to try the mop feature. Once the tank was filled I switched to mop mode, the robot had already created the map so I was hoping for a two pass mopping of my place. It started out fine and did return to the station to clean the mop pads every 10 minutes. However, for some reason, it completely skipped mopping the living room. I didn't do any room dividing since I can't see the screen to do that but that shouldn't matter since I asked it to clean everything. I then tried another vacuum job and it covered everything so I'm wondering if the bug is related to returning to clean the pads and then picking up where it left off. I could try increasing the time between mop pad cleanings but I shouldn't have to do that.
I think at this point the X2 is a mixed bag. The hardware is excellent but there are a few things that Ecovacs needs to resolve but hopefully that will happen. The lack of accessibility with the app is definitely disappointing as well since I had no problems using the previous Ecovacs models with speech.

If you didn't say anything I was going to ask to do a comparison video. It will be an interesting video as they all seem to me to have different pros & cons. To be honest before purchasing a flagship, I'm now looking for something with all the features of the Ecovacs, Dreame, & Roborock. I have the Q Revo but it misses picking up dirt before moping and contacted support. Example It goes right over bread crumbs and leaves some behind....I clearly stated that i had the highest vacuum setting and all the rest of the predictable troubleshooting and if course they respond by asking to do the same troubleshooting again... So it's on hold to be sent back and got the X2 to see if it works better... But navigation like issues you mentionis another headache...so now i have two robots ready to be sent back. The X2 vacuums incredibly well when it goes over dirt. The Q Revo mops really well and better than the X2, - so far, if only it would manage to vacuum the dirt...If like it is discussed the X2 is supposed to get updates is it worth keeping as it may be a fine working machine once the issues are addressed...or keep the QRevo with the uneven vacuum capacity?

It still is prone to some meandering but it seems like it does it to try and adjust for missteps. Contacting customer support and after some direct exchanges they acknowledged that they are working on refining the firmware to address known issues. Keeping my fingers crossed and must say that the vacuum aspect is best from all the other robots I have had before. ☮️

We've had the X2 for about a week. I am very happy with the cleaning, and with 3 family members with long hair, cleaning the beater bar is super easy (especially compared to the power head on our central vacuum).
The mapping and navigation is definitely lacking. We've repeated the quick mapping 4 or 5 times (at least). We are getting interior walls where none exist, and surface detection (tile vs wood vs carpet) is weird. Subdivision of rooms is very hit or miss. The app currently seems to only allow division one direction. I haven't been able to move the divider perpendicular to where it starts, only change the length of the marker. Im not sure if this is user error, or something in the software.

The X2 delivers incredible results in corner cleaning while the navigation doesn't reassure me at all (even if the overall results is very good). The Dreame L20 is so much more efficient in navigation and is very disciplined (cleaning in tight straight lines) but can't clean corners as the X2 does. Great review, I was thinking of adding this bot to my collection but I think I will hold off for a while, sounds like there are still some major bugs to work out, I think Ecovacs makes great robots, I have several of them, the T8 Plus, the T9 Plus, the N10 max Plus, the T10 Plus and the X1 Plus. I have all of them set to clean everything twice, I do think Ecovacs and Roborock are the best robot brands right now, Dreametech is good too. Are you going to review the new Roomba J9 Plus or Combo J9 Plus. Irobot is really behind the competition even with their new models. They still use vslam instead of lidar for mapping and the combo model does not spin or vibrate the mop, it will automatically fill the water tank but it doesn't clean or dry the mop pads. One robot I'm thinking of getting is the Roborock Q Revo.

Has Ecovacs given you any idea of timeline on their updates? I’m getting quite frustrated because I have several issues that i have sent via help/feedback within the app. They are quick to respond but only to one request and it’s always them trying to tell me I did something wrong. (Delete the app and reinstall, check your firmware, your sliding glass doors are glass so it’s confusing the robot, your x2 is defective.). I consider myself someone who is pretty good with technology. I told them I would work with them to get past these issues. My biggedt issue is when the X2 goes over a threshold. It recognizes that the floor is uneven, turns 60 degrees to the left and goes full force forward right into my door frame. I asked them to reprogram this. Their response was to use a steeper ramp? Wait, it won’t get over the flatter ramp. So frustrating!

Great video! I’ve been waiting for this video to come out. I also agree with you that with some software updates this could be a great machine!
I have two of these for two different houses. I bought them because I was so happy with my T9 and purchased them when they were first available for pre-sale. I would agree that most issues are with mapping and navigation. I’m definitely disappointed and hope they can fix the issues with upcoming software updates. If not addressed rather soon my decision to keep them after 30 days was a mistake. Here are some random good and bad thoughts from after two months of use.
    1. Mapping - Took multiple times to get a usable map. Literally had to take stuff out from under my bed, move my Peloton bike, move some storage boxes off the floor and just cross my fingers that it completed. Oh yeah, it doesn’t like furniture placed on an angle or angled walls. I can’t even look at the 3D map and find the 2D map is just easier to look at. A few times during mapping the X2 would box itself out of the room and that was incredibly frustrating. It definitely does different navigation passages every time you map and it has completely missed rooms. Helpful tip: If you are having mapping trouble, try moving the base to a different room or wall.
    2. Navigation after mapping (and firmware update)- This has seemed to get a bit better over time? I had times where my X2 literally would go back and forth between two rooms like it was confused. It does still get confused when you create a new custom area but once it figures it out and does that custom clean a few times it did seem to get better.
    3. Mopping - If I do the deep scrubbing and 2nd pass it does seem to mop pretty well. I tested several spots with a wet paper towel after mopping was complete and was happy with the results...the paper towel was clean!! I do find the best results are when I move chairs off the floor.
    4. Edge mopping - Has anyone noticed the mopping pads don’t get close enough to the edge. I think this is a HUGE fail. It may be possible fixed with software update where the bot kicks its right side out as it is going across edges?
    5. Battery -On max plus it can’t complete one full vacuum on my first floor which is mostly hardwood with a few small area rugs. It will return to charge and finish at a later time which is nice. The bot calculates the area at around 450 sq feet. My T9 on max had no issue. I think this has to do with the map that I have since there are rooms I can’t divide so the initial edge vacuum is going around a huge area.
    6. Room dividing nightmare. This goes along with navigation. There are rooms I can’t divide as you noted. One house is a smaller house and it recognizes the whole house as one room which I don’t understand. I’ve gotten around some of this using the custom areas.
    7. Custom names for custom cleaning scenarios are really bad. They need more flexibility.
8, Does a pretty good job vacuuming overall using max and 2X. There are two of us and a dog and I am always amazed at how much dust and hair the X2 picks up. It does not do amazing with certain things such as glitter as I’m noticing as we decorate. I’ve had my one bot since the beginning of October and I was happy to see that the dust bag was pretty full when I cleaned it yesterday. I had some tangles around the edges of the roller bar that were easy to clear…none around the brush itself. I wish they still included the filter brush but I did clean that yesterday and it cleaned rather easily.
    9. We have some ruggable rugs and they are close to the floor and the X2 always seems to get tangled in them or move the rug off of the Velcro.
10.It has enough giddy-up to cross over a 3/4” threshold. Not all of the time but maybe 85% of the time. I did use someone on Etsy to print me some ramps for other areas. (C3DPRINTSOFFICIAL if anyone is interested. If not allowed I’ll edit this out. )
    11. During mapping and often during cleaning it bumps pretty hard into furniture, especially chairs for some reason.
    12. I do love that it has the ability to create and save three maps although lugging everything up or downstairs is not an easy task.
I’ve decided to track each issue that I’m having with an individual help ticket to under feedback section of the app to ecovac. When I’ve tried to send multiple issues through an email they are not all addressed. They are very responsive and pretty nice but just not moving quick enough to fix these issues. One time they tried to tell me that both of my bots should be replaced under warranty.

Guys. Don’t listen to these reviews.
I watched them all a few weeks back before buying the X2 omni. And it turns out, this robot have no idea where it is. It goes around in circles, and it keeps trying to go through walls, and repeatedly bump into door frames, because it can’t see the door.. It also very often just stop the cleaning because it thinks it’s finished, even though half the house is still missing.. NOT ONCE, did this robot clean my house without problems, I often had to pick it up and move it somewhere else because it was trying to go through something it couldn’t or because it was doing the same thing in a corner over and over.. For THAT amount of money I honestly felt scammed…
I returned it after a week, and bought a roborock with the same features at literally half the price, and the roborock cleaned the whole house in the first try, without a single problem, and has done that now for 2 weeks.
