Thank you for your honest review! We appreciate your feedback and we are committed to addressing the issues raised in the video in our future system upgrades.❤
The current auto-emptying period of 30 minutes is too long, especially for a fully carpeted house. I propose reducing the auto-emptying period to 15 minutes to improve the overall cleaning efficiency.
Perhaps an airflow sensor could detect if the suction is below a certain threshold percentage set by the user. Thus, the machine would go empty itself automatically. Just a thought!
@@debrunnemartin8684watch the video, it's basically a software issue that can be fixed... From the looks of it. There's no actual mechanical problem. It still does a great job but if you have a S7 Max V Ultra let's say it wouldn't be worth the upgrade right now, in my opinion... At least until they fix the software
Wow, thank you Jamie, this is why you are my favorite reviewer. I am most worried about the hair tangling as I have two dogs with long hair. I am seriously considering the X40 now. So it would be great to have a short video about comparing the X30 and the S8 MaxV Ultra. The added features of the X40 over the X30 that I found are: - Extendable and liftable Side Brush - 1200 Pa suction power - Lifts brushes when detecting a wet stain
I certainly plan to compare the X40 to this as I think they directly compete. I will have to wait for some of these issues to get worked out or the results would be predictable. Thanks for your kind words!
@@petitbarzun depends on if they can be fixed via firmware. There is no fix for a small dustbin or the dual rollers that, have weird ends for instance.
@@jamie.andrews hey Jamie do you think the old rollers of the S8 pro fit on this one? just wondering since the cutting blades are stupidly useless then if the easier to clean roller could be fit
I've had my S8 maxv for a week and can tell you it is much improved over my s7 maxv it seems quieter more responsive and does a better job of obstacle avoidance. My old s7 had a few scratchs from hitting things from what I've observed the S8 seemed more careful and I like the redesigned dock it definitely seems like a nice upgrade and yes its more attractive. Thanks for your review.
I was honestly really excited to get the S8 MaxV Ultra, seeing all the cool features it has. I was always a huge fan of Roborock, and really want to support them. But I also feel like they were getting much too expensive, with their top end robots reaching nearly $2K and mid-ends now over $1K. Sure, you need to pay for all the features they've added, but I honestly feel that most of the features aren't necessary, such as the voice control etc. That might be a huge think in China, but here, we have Alexa and Google, and if they just integrate it properly with those platforms, they don't need to work on a dedicated voice control feature. As such, the users end up paying for unnecessary or potentially useless features. I also feel like the numbers all these robot vacuum companies provide are just arbritary numbers, something they all pull out of thin air, just to one-up the competition, and they will charge you more for those higher numbers, while in reality, they probably aren't as high as they claim to be. I've never seen a single robot vacuum company show how they get those Pascal numbers, and we went from around 2000 Pa to over 10K Pa in about two years? What magical motor are these companies developing that produces these kinds of power without an increase in noise level or the physical size of the motors? It's almost nonsense. This is not a hit on Roborock, all robot vacuum companies boast this without giving substantial proof, and honestly we all fall for it.
Thank you Jamie... please could you suggest a robot vaccum for hard floor. Both vaccuming and mopping pleass. What you think I should spent my money on?
@@amanchahal216 I would have to know more about your needs and budget. Does it need to mop? Do you need object avoidance? Do you want a self empty dock? Etc.
@@jamie.andrews thank you for your response Jamie. yes please mop function as I got hard floor. no issues with budget as such. also I noticed you have not reviewed L10S pro ultra heat one. it would be great if you can compare L10s pro ultra heat vs L20 vs Q REVO.... NOT SURE HOW IMPORTANT IS HOT WATER MOPPING PAD SYSTEM
Finally the honest review I was expecting. Everyone too much excited for this product, but my impressions is RR is going to add new features without fixing the little downsides of the past models. What a pity! The last concrete robot from them was the S7 MaxV ultra, then they were lost… :( Thank you for the detailed and hard work, please continue to be this impartial as always.
Thanks so much! It is my hope that some of these things can be fixed through firmware updates. The S7 MaxV is one of my favorite robots from them made to date. Next I would say their Qrevo line is also great.
Thanks Jamie for another great review. I also have a lot of respect for RoboRock. Knowing that its navigation is rock solid (no pun intended!) is very reassuring and my respect for RoboRock put the s8 MaxV Ultra at the top of my shortlist to replace my ageing Ecovacs T8 AIVI but having seen this review, although as you say it’s by no means a bad robot, I’m now thinking that I’m very definitely going to wait until the Dreame X40 has been out long enough to have a few thorough reviews published (including yours) but right now my hunch is that it will be the X40 that I end up buying, specifically the X40 Master if I can get it in the UK because that plumbed-in docking station that integrates flush with kitchen cabinets is the neatest implementation of a dock that I’ve seen and the kitchen is where my robot’s docking station lives so it would be perfect for me.
IDK man at this price point I wouldn't expect gimmicks. Seems RoboRock thinks their fans will buy whatever they push out. I'm not convinced and it might be time to look elsewhere But your review was excellent! 👏👍 Thanx for putting in the effort to inform us!
Of all the reviews on here i always prefer yours. The realistic day to day, like the flexi arm....needing to be a full house clean. No wonder it would have a longer life when its barely used ha. I have the S7 Max V and i csn sell and get one of these for about 200 extra on top of what i can sell it for. Its an upgrade in the right direction, just not a massive massive leap.
@waqasahmed939 Same, it's pretty innovative tech! They still have their kickstarter going.. it is a new company, though, so not a lot of info out there or reviews to see real performance! More cost effective than some RR models.
EXCELLENT review! Good thing is most of these are software updates and HOPEFULLY Robo is listening! This was 2k for a 2n1 and I agree with ALL you’ve expressed in concerns or CONS
@@jamie.andrews well it's very simple, consumers buy and then they will just return it. I did that when I paid 1400$ for the s7 and realized the drying mop feature is a big issue. Now I'm back at finding the best flagship and I thought the s8 was it but apparently I need to give the dreame x40 a better look when it's out bec that may be the one.
Thanks for the great review. Was looking at purchasing this as I sold my S8 or the Eufy S1 pro. Think you might be getting the S1 for a review anytime soon? Love the reviews keep them coming!
I see this is on sale for $1099 for Black Friday! Would you buy this or the Slim for $999. Do you feel the S8 scrubbing action cleans better than the discs on the Slim when mopping? Thank you for your thorough reviews
Hi, thank you for the detailed review. We were thinking of buying this vacuum, so did they fix all the issues? If not we will look to buy something else, Thank you.
Not that I have seen. I ran it through some tests about a month ago and the only real improvement was the side brush acts better in corners, but still does not come out under cabinets and furniture.
Excellent Review. I agree with you that $1799.00 is a price point that calls for more testing which means l will patiently wait. Those of us who use robot vacuums want reliability first and advertised elements to work out of the box. Have you seen the new Ascender that climbes stairs and cleans them too. Vacuum Wars on TH-cam says they should ship in July of 2024. Could be a game changer for two and three story homes.
Bought this and waiting to set it up. Do you feel these issues you’ve found will potentially all be fixed with a software update? I may return during the return period if I’m not happy. Thank you for the review! It’s my first robot vacuum so I am excited!
That is my expectation based on my previous expieranced with Roborock. They really care about these things. I got a new firmware just today and now I am going back and testing.
Thanks Jamie for your unbiased review. The Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra is our 1st robot purchase, based on your experience do you think Roborock will make the improvements you suggested in the firmware? We have just received ours and have a month to decide if this is the best vacuum/mop for our use. Also we are complete newbies, is there an in-depth video of the Roborock app to explain the options available?
It is my expierance that they will improve based on my findings. That does take time though. I have a general app overview video I did a few years ago. It is fairly outdated now, but may still help some. th-cam.com/video/WE2NeBJseoc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=D7PNXUx146DZ8u6T
Great review, I’ve been waiting on exactly this! Can you comment on how quickly the bag fills up? On average (non testing) runs, can you estimate how many can be done before the bag is full and needs to be thrown out? Curious how much the bags can really hold. Thanks!!
The bag is unchanged in size from the previous models at 2.5 litter and how fast it will fill will vary house to house. Roborock say 6 to 7 weeks, but again that depends on the total square footage of the home, how many carpets vs hard floors and how many pets. Pets have a huge impact on the especially long hair pets. I honestly never fill one because I have moved on to the next robot to test right after this one.
Great video. One issue not mention is a bumper stuck error for no apparent reason. Will pop up in the middle of the room during a clean from the schedule or routine functions. A fix would be awesome.
@@jamie.andrews I finally decided to get this s8 maxv today from BestBuy, overall it was good. However, my unit kept failing to detect cables/cords no matter how big or small it is. I have the latest firmware update to 02.33.74, AI Reactive on (standard less collision, fill light automatic, AI environment on), and using SmartPlan AI cleaning mode. I don't know if the SmarPlan cleaning mode might affect the performance? Or did I miss any settings? Anyway, do you think the Qrevo Curv is a better buy than this?
@@jamie.andrews I just bought the brand new s8 maxv from best buy today. However, the robot kept failing to detect cables/cords no matter how big or small it is. I'm on latest firmware 02.33.74. All reactive AI was on, using SmartPlan cleaning mode. Can you do a quick retest on yours to see if experience the same?
Love your videos especially the detailed temperature checks of the water cleaning and air drying. So disappointing that roborocks temperature figures are so wildly off. Can't wait to see a similar review of the Revo maxv
Yes. The failure to hit the water temperature target was probably the most disappointing issue for me mainly because all the other issues did look like ones that could be fixed in firmware but with water heating I have some doubts. Jamie did mention how the power consumption of the dock fell off quite quickly so maybe there is hope that just keeping the heating element active for longer might be a software fix. I would hope that RoboRock would give this a high priority since they are promoting the hot mop washing temperature quite strongly. I really hope their “fix” isn’t to just change the marketing materials to show a lower temperature!
First of all, thank you for the great and honest review! I am too quite interested about the review of the eufy S1 pro. If I may ask the to check how good the mopping feature is. Especially how really clean the floor afterwards is. Like "the hook up" guys checked the floor after mopping with a tissue. The "smarthomeassistent" sadly doesn't check the floor afterwards with a clean tissue and I am afraid the roborock just spread the dirt till you simply can't see it anymore... But it's still there. So I want to know if the eufy is really mopping the floor. Thank you for help!
Oh, and I am quite curious if the mop drying in the station is loud? Because I want to put the vacuum robot beside my couch and I am afraid it's annoyingly loud (4,5h). Thank you!
@@jamie.andrews amazing: 1. S1 mopping vs flagship competitors. 2. Ifs the 2 side brush reach to corner 3. Side brush on wet dirt - is it a problem? Like milk on the floor. 4. The water on the docking really eco clean ozone?(kill the germs). 5. How it handle cleaning the area between carpet and floor . 6. Is the Vacuum strong? I saw honest review that give it not good grade. 7. Most important - moping close to corners!
@@Kvothe-ew4rn A roller like on the S1 is for sure going to mop better than any robot dragging a cloth. Sadly it is not that simple as the tradeoff is no edge mopping and a good bit more maintenance with the S1. Keep an eye out for my video.
Wow, I saw your review and was a bit shocked from all the cons you've mentioned. I have the S7 with the dust container. since 2021. I have 2 pets (a dog and a cat). I turn it on everyday and it comes back with a lot of dirt. All in all, it does a good job. Do you think it's worth keeping or should you recommaned to upgrade it to S8 maxv, considering the price and the cons? I was hoping the S8 maxV will avoid cabels, but in your review it didn't. What is your honest opinion? To stick with the S7 or replace it? Anf if so, to what? Thx a lot!!
The S7 is a great robot. It really depends on your needs and wants with the upgrade. You mentioned object avoidance, but the MaxV gives way more upgrades than just that over the S7. While the MaxV is not great with cords the S7 does not have built in object avoidance so the S8 MaxV will still be an upgrade. You may also want to look at the Qrevo models. I just put a video out comparing a few of them. th-cam.com/video/iSMqTKFj-aQ/w-d-xo.html
The feedback at 14:47 is bang on. Im actually really liking the S8 maxv, it's obstacle avoidance has been great... But removing the hair caught on the Axel is a nightmare.

Hi Jamie Thank you for the honest review. I have been waiting for this one to see if I finally upgrade my (non dock) S7. Based on what’s out there right now, what is your recommendation for the very best vacuum and dock. Tiles and carpet. Assume no budget limit. Is it one of the new Dreame’s? Like the l30 or x40. Should I wait for the revo maxv and your review? Seems to me from your reviews that Dreame might be the better option right now (even though I like the Roborock software). Interested in your views! Thanks again. David
Thanks Jamie for responding so quickly. I did see the x30 review which looks like the best out there right now. I suppose I should wait to see a review from you of the x40 and qrevo maxv. Any idea when you are likely to receive units for review? I should note, btw, I’ll be donating to your channel as a thanks for the excellent work you do - please keep it up!
@@davidandvickie First off thanks for the support! I have the Qrevo MaxV now, but it will be a bit before the review comes out. Should be in May. The X40 is in transit from far away.
Great review. I've been looking forward to your review to see if it's worth upgrading, expecially with the trade-in program. However some of the new features sound better on paper than in reality. I think I'll hang on to my S7 Max Ultra and see what the S9 Max Ultra or S9 MaxV Ultra have to offer maybe next year. Thanks for the review and keep up the excellent work.
The S7 Max Ultra is still new enough that you could wait for the next generation or wait for the bugs to get hopefully resolved and then buy on a black Friday sale.
Thank you for another excellent review! I will hold off on upgrading my S8 Pro Ultra. The auto-emptying is too long, and I don't want a decrease in the water tank's amount, so I will pass. It is not worth the upgrade to me. I'm thrilled with my S8 Pro Ultra; however, I was waiting on your review to see if I'd make the purchase.
Hey, im very happy i came across your review, answers every question one could have. I currently have the roomba s9+ since 2019, its not very good at avoiding objects and im due for an upgrade. Curious what product youd consider as the best on the market. The roborock promo for a 5 year warranty and additional wet mop is enticing and the QRevo looks to only have 7000 Pa suction, do you think that would be superior or have any recommendation of the top robot available, the self changing water is a must for me, thanks!!
I have not tested the Q Revo Maxv just yet, but you may want to watch some of my reviews on the Dreame X30 and L20 Ultra. th-cam.com/video/rrdLbQDQwCo/w-d-xo.htmlsi=QkwsvBzUvHDZ-ZfR
@jamie.andrews just watched that review, no surprise another great one sir. It feels like the dreame is superior, which I would then go x40 but from what I see online the dreame support is nit great. Curious of your take on that as roborock may not be flawless right now but from what you said they have great support and a 5 year warranty, it's quite the dilemma lol..thank you for the great videos, you've made me really have to think here
@@tommyboy3121 I hear that often about Dreame and honestly I hear it too about Roborock, just not as much. I have all the Dreame products and have not had any issues with them. I think it has a lot to do with the duty cycles and how well people take care of them. I don't use one long enough to really be a good judge though.
Thank you for your response, Jamie. I would like to have a mop function for my hard floors, and my budget is not an issue. Object avoidance is a must-have feature, and I also need a self-empty dock. While checking the available models, I saw that you haven't reviewed the L10S Pro Ultra Heat yet. Can you please compare it with the L20 and Q REVO models, and also with the S8 Pro Ultra? I'm not sure how important the hot water mopping pad system is. For your information, I'm from Australia, so the Dreame X30 model is not available here. I'm feeling confused about which robot vacuum model to purchase. Initially, I was interested in the Roborock S8 Pro Ultra, but I found out that it doesn't come with rotating pads. I'm not sure if it can mop well without them. Therefore, I am also considering the L10s Pro Ultra Heat, which has rotating pads and an extendable mopping edge. However, since there aren't many reviews available for this model, I am concerned about its navigation system and detection capabilities. It would be really helpful if you could review the L10s Pro Ultra Heat for me.
Sadly we don't get many of the same models here in the US. I have reviews the L10s Ultra and also have a comparison video with it and the Qrevo. I will soon have a video out on the Qrevo MaxV along with the Eufy S1 Pro.
@@jamie.andrews Thank you Jamie. I wait for QREVO MAX VIDEO. :) .. any suggestion what can i buy (as per USA availaibilty) ? also how important is hot water pad cleaning? L20 does not have hot water function but its suction power and battery is better than l10s heat one
@@amanchahal216 I addressed this topic in my last 2 videos including this one. Personally I think hot water mop washing is not that effective unless you are dealing with grease on the floors. amzn.to/3w7Daj1
rotating pads have been proved to be only marginally better in speciifc cases only than vibrating plates. You can compare this video with the Q revo maxv.
Great review. I've used several brands of robot vacs, including iRobot and Roborock beats them all. And no, I wasn't paid to write this. It's just a consistently good product. I'm currently using the S7 Max and won't be replacing it with this one. The S7 Max is still perfectly fine and . . . 1700 bucks? No.
Absolutely in fact I just got the first one today. Now I am frantically retesting to see if it fixed anything. So far no on the side brush as far as coming out under cabinets on a room cleaning it still does not and it is still delayed coming out on some corners. Hot water is stl non existent.
@@jamie.andrews yeah, especially with the price it charges $1.8k, people expect the best. If this thing is around $1.2k, is much more reasonable with current state
The X40 is an excellent robot vacuum, but it has a bit of navigation issues that need to be ironed out. Seems Dreame rushed it out on the market before fully debugging it.
Just got the X40 and love it. It was weird at first during mapping it kept dropping the one mop as if it wasn’t energized but then I fixed it by rebooting the robot. Strange. However as compared to my Eufy X10 pro it’s like night and day. It’s quieter and you can tell the servos and quality of components used are higher grade not to mention it is lower so it fits better under things. The side mopping is absolutely amazing and my kitchen and dining room is so much more clean. Even the mopping is quieter and better consistency with wetness across the operation. It doesn’t crazy empty as many times as the X10 and the empty is literally half the noise. Well done. It’s a keeper for sure and the water tanks are larger which helps a ton for my household.
Great review, as always ! It would be so great if you could also compare Robots vacuum performances at iso-decibels. Max power mode is always good to know, but as it drains more battery and bleeds ears, that's only on side of the story in my opinion (especially since they catch almost everything, I don't see it as a distinguishing factor).
Great review and as always very thorough! I think the price is a good bit more than I’d be willing to pay without enough enhancements over my less than 2 years old S7 Max V . But I did note that the Eufy S1 Pro was visible in one of the pics of the dock! Very excited about that unit with a completely new mopping system and relatively aggressive price. When can we expect that review??? There are many out today from unheard of and non-trusted sources, so looking for a review from a pro, preferably while still available on the kickstarter pricing!
In watching the robot in a corner or near an edge, it is surprising that the only solution to gather debris is to reach it's flingly arm out a bit. While this could work, it would seem just as likely to fling the debris the wrong direction. Ideally, another vacuum arm/tube would work better, assuming it would be feasible.
Well then the most expensive one I have reviewed is the Dreame X40 Ultra with a retail price of $1900 lol. I'll have the video you are asking about planned to be released around black Friday.
Thanks for the detailed review Jamie! I was on the fence between this and the X40 Ultra. Seems as if the X40 Ultra is the way to go. But looking forward to your review of that model! Do you know about when you'll be able to review that one?
Wow Jamie, what an excellent review! (and editing) Think I'll pass on this almost $2,000 robot (after taxes). Biggest deal breaker for me is that difficult hair removal on the main brushes. It's so much easier on the older models. An easy fix for the full dust bin is simply to put a timer in the app. You could pick how often to empty if you think there is a lot of material to pick up. Set for five, ten, or whatever minutes. Hear this Roborock!??
Hi Jamie, is there a way for the Roborock to only vacuum the carpet, then return to dock and empty the dust bin? Do you think you will have the Dreame 40 reviewed before the early bird offer ends on 19th May. I saw you chose the previous Dreame models as really good choices, thanks in advance!
Not at this moment. It will only empty after 30 minutes and only in vacuum and mop mode. I am still waiting on the X40 so no unfortunately I won't have a video out by then.
7:21 - Looks like the LIDAR beam is actually hitting the cabinet doors so it probably thinks it's too close which is perhaps why it retracts the brush?
Lidar hitting the cabinet is not the problem here or the robot would be able to get under the cabinet and thus not have the need for a swing out side brush. It would be like riding beside any wall. The robot has a side sensor on it to tell it how far the wall is away from the robot. It uses this along with the lidar to tell the robot that there is a cabinet base there. If you look at my Dreame X30 video you can see when it gets to the same cabinets it can tell there is a cabinet and it will start a wiggle motion to get the pad all the way under the cabinet. This is how the S8 MaxV should work as well just with the side brush.
Great review, I'm looking forward to seeing more about the new Q revo models, I like that design a bit better. As far as the hot water mop washing, sounds like the dock is turning off the heating element too soon, I would think the best way to handle this is to leave it on throughout the mop wash cycle. Hopefully the issue of only emptying every 30 minutes in the vacuum and mop mode can be fixed with a software update. The Eufy X10 pro and several Ecovacs models allow you to have the robot self empty after a certain length of time in the vacuum only mode.
Thanks! Yes the heater needs to stay on longer or come on more frequently. Both things you spoke about can be fixed with firmware updates. QRevo reviews should be out in May.
@@jamie.andrews hi Jamie, will your QRevo review come out soon? Mid year sales are coming up and I want to know if it's worth getting the new QRevo Max V or stay with the old Q Revo.
Fantastic and comprehensive review... Very appreciated. You notice many more detailed things than other reviewers. Please keep up the outstanding work...
Sounds like a lot of this as you mentioned could be updated via the firmware or software. Have you seen any updates on some the items with any app updates (flexiarm or water temp)?
Thanks for the detailed review! I'm in Australia where this retails for 1,950 USD. I can get the Dreame L20 Ultra or the Q Revo MaxV for 33% less cost at 1,300 USD (yes everthing is more expensive here!). Considering the relative prices, do you think the L20 would be the obvious purchase vs the S8 MaxV?
@@thomasp5779 It did indeed. I think now that the X30 is out it more closely competes and once the X40 comes along it will even more directly compete. The L20 will be so cheap by then that budget conscious people will jump on the L20.
Jamie - just following up on this thread. I’m in Australia also and haven’t been able to find any date when either the x30 or x40 will arrive. In fact when I contacted Dreame Australia they told me they had no date. With this in mind, the high end models (to replace my aging s7) are the s8 maxv ultra, the s8 revo maxv or the dreame l20. Thoughts (ignoring cost differences)?
@@davidandvickie I will launch the Qrevo MaxV video next so you will then have a review video for all 3. Hope you will check it out and let me know what you think!
Thanks for the great review once again. Sadly the entire Roborock S8 series has been flawed from the get-go.. especially the S8 Pro Ultra was a major let down. The Q Revo is still by far their best robot vacuum in terms of price performance.
Good review, thank you! I'm glad they are adding the a silver ion block in the clean water tank. It's very disappointing the flexiarm does not clean corners well and does not extend under counter tops. I'm not sure I want to participate in the buy back program now. 😢
I was a bit shocked by this as well, however I feel they will optimize it through firmware since I am sure I won't be the only one to give them this feedback.
Does the flexi arm work while the vacuum is on a runner ? I have runners in the kitchen so it would be great if it the arm comes out while the vacuum is on the runner. This would be nice to have. I saw the video and it’s not working. But something to work on for Roborock.
The review I've been waiting for!! I came to your channel looking for it yesterday! I enjoy your honest, thorough reviews! Thank you. Cant wait to see a comparison and testing video between this RR model, the new S8 Max Ultra vs the X30 vs the x40. That would be the battle of the latest robot competition.
@jamie.andrews Awesome! Do you think the new S8 Max Ultra is worth it or the latest Q Revo ? I want to upgrade and am between these 8 series or the S7 Max (although I really don't want a camera) . I honestly am considering taking the plunge for either series. I have an S7 (regular dock, not S7+ ), but after getting wrapped in a chord one of wheels broke so I have been without a vacuum. I wanted to wait till black Friday sales, but really need a new vac and the 3-5 yr warranty sounded helpful.
@@jamie.andrewsmatter is the new coding language that all smart home companies have decided to join.. apparently. The S8 maxv Ultra is one of the first to have full matter capability
What is your budget? Do you need hot water mop washing, detergent injection, edge mopping, better obstacle avoidance, a swing out side brush? If you value those features over a more budget friendly model then go for the MaxV
What’s your opinion on the mop feature in regards to light spills and stains? I currently have a Roborock S4 and mop once a month. I take care of hard spills right away, but stuff like water drops and foot prints, I leave till the end of the month to mop. Would the mop feature of the S8 MaxV Ultra eliminate these small water or footprint stains on the floor? Would like to upgrade if it can eliminate the manual mop all together since my entire house is vinyl flooring!
While can't can't really say if it would remove it I can say the mopping system is pretty good. I would say it should handle most of your cleaning needs. I hardly ever mop with anything but a robot.
Me gustó mucho el test realizado al S8 MaxV Ultra de Roborock. Me gustaría que hiciera una review y diera sus consideraciones acerca de la Samsung Bespoke JetBot Combo presentada en este año. Saludos.

@@jamie.andrews yeah. I was surprised to see the Dual Rollers doing well on hard floors! If only they increased the bin size... I feel the Q Revo MaxV will be a better robot overall, regardless of price! Hopefully Roborock will switch from pads to mop rollers like the Eufy S1!
@@MrBlueCreeper The bin size would be OK for most if it could just return to the dock to empty. I guess they are scared of Amazon and iRobot? Everyone is talking about the S1 Pro non stop. It is an impressive mop, but there are tradeoffs like most things. You know I will highlight the good and bad.
How easily is the dock cleaning on this compared to the S7 MaxV? I thought I read something about this new dock have self-cleaning ability but that sounds a bit off. Maybe it just means it can dry which helps avoid water sitting around getting gross.
I was hoping to see auto-empty detection on this and other new Roborock models as I understood that Roomba's patent on this had expired in the same way their dual roller one had?
Hot water cleaning: Is all water for mop washing supplied from the Robot’s internal water tank? I don’t see anywhere else water can come form except the port for filling the robot? If that is the case, how could the water temp ever reach what is advertised as any heated water would mix with the current tank water. The Dreame has 2 water tubes that supply water to the dock basin so I assume the Dreame uses that hot water for mop washing?
Hot water is only used when washing the mop pad at the dock. The water that is put into the robots internal water tank is not heated. This is the same for all robots that have hot water mop washing.
What I’m asking is where is the water outlet in the dock to wash the mop? I don’t see any. Also, if you start a wash with the fresh water tank installed and then remove it after the wash starts, the wash completes. There is likely some in the water line but the only other place water exists is in the robot. On the Dreame docks, the water is supplied to the bottom of the dock through 2 water tubes. These supply the hot water to clean the Dreame mops. I see no such water outlets on the Roborock dock. Thus, where does the water come from to wash the mop?
@@Firebat- The water is applied directly to the brush roller in the dock. If you pull up on the red tab and remove the brush you will see several holes where water is applied to the spinning brush.
Did Roborok answer you to all the problems you identified? And if so, when to wait for their correction? Can all problems be fixed only by updating the robot or base through the robot? And how are things with the brush module, they say the s8 pro ultra had problems with the airflow, which caused the power to be lost, have you noticed this in the new robot?
Roborock stared the would work to fix the issues. Most could be fixed via firmware update. This has a much larger vacuum motor so it has been pretty good compared to the S8 Pro.
Thank you for your honest review! We appreciate your feedback and we are committed to addressing the issues raised in the video in our future system upgrades.❤
It is my pleasure. I know you all will fix these issues and make the product better.
Hello, could you tell us about this issues ? All S8 MaxV ultra EU too ?
@@debrunnemartin8684watch the video, it's basically a software issue that can be fixed... From the looks of it. There's no actual mechanical problem. It still does a great job but if you have a S7 Max V Ultra let's say it wouldn't be worth the upgrade right now, in my opinion... At least until they fix the software
oh man... your first line really sets the tone for the video... i guess it mostly works
can't wait for the Revo MaxV review
Coming soon!
Wow, thank you Jamie, this is why you are my favorite reviewer. I am most worried about the hair tangling as I have two dogs with long hair. I am seriously considering the X40 now. So it would be great to have a short video about comparing the X30 and the S8 MaxV Ultra.
The added features of the X40 over the X30 that I found are:
- Extendable and liftable Side Brush
- 1200 Pa suction power
- Lifts brushes when detecting a wet stain
I certainly plan to compare the X40 to this as I think they directly compete. I will have to wait for some of these issues to get worked out or the results would be predictable. Thanks for your kind words!
@@jamie.andrews do you think they can fix the hardware issues?
@@petitbarzun depends on if they can be fixed via firmware. There is no fix for a small dustbin or the dual rollers that, have weird ends for instance.
@@jamie.andrews hey Jamie do you think the old rollers of the S8 pro fit on this one? just wondering since the cutting blades are stupidly useless then if the easier to clean roller could be fit
@@xeon2k8 I tried and no they don't. Totally different design in the roller deck.
Agree on all points! Great take.
Meanwhile there is dyson, who has done great at improving the vacuum but hardly improved the robotic aspects.
Sighs

NOT SURE HOW IMPORTANT IS HOT WATER MOPPING PAD SYSTEM
The channel I been waiting for to review the new roborock! 🙌🏾
Hope you enjoyed it!
Finally the honest review I was expecting. Everyone too much excited for this product, but my impressions is RR is going to add new features without fixing the little downsides of the past models. What a pity!
The last concrete robot from them was the S7 MaxV ultra, then they were lost… :(
Thank you for the detailed and hard work, please continue to be this impartial as always.
The best video of an robot vacuum ever seen. I think you are an engineer. Bravo mate.
Wow, thanks!
IDK man at this price point I wouldn't expect gimmicks. Seems RoboRock thinks their fans will buy whatever they push out. I'm not convinced and it might be time to look elsewhere
But your review was excellent! 👏👍 Thanx for putting in the effort to inform us!
It feels to me that all manufacturers are doing this now.
This is getting ridiculous. In China, the S8 MaxV price is about $700 (tax included). Here it is more than $1900 after tax.
Its not worth the price unless it cleans spotless in every corner and no hair tangled around brushes
Great video, covering in detail all the important factors good and bad! Happily keeping S7 MaxV with water refill system for the time being.
I'd love to see this go head to head with the Migo Ascender too
@waqasahmed939 Same, it's pretty innovative tech! They still have their kickstarter going.. it is a new company, though, so not a lot of info out there or reviews to see real performance! More cost effective than some RR models.
@@Sun.n.Flowersthanks for talking about this I had no idea and now I really want to support it!

I’m glad I went with the Dreame X30 instead. Best robot vacuum I have used. Great review!

Reviews like this give us hope that watching reviews is worthwhile. There's too many biased and fake reviews.
Thanks! That means a lot to me. I was just watching iJustine's review which is paid and it was horrible. Those paid fake reviews cost the consumer.
Thank you for this real, detailed and unbiased review!

Thanks for the review. Will 100% be holding off on upgrading my S7 and S8.
Thanks for the great review. Was looking at purchasing this as I sold my S8 or the Eufy S1 pro. Think you might be getting the S1 for a review anytime soon? Love the reviews keep them coming!
I am trying to get the S1 review out by next week.
Finally!! When I get home I'll watch asap🥳🥳
Can’t wait for your Q Revo MaxV review!!
Yea I did see that and will be sure to check it out!
@@jamie.andrews phenomenal. Really appreciate you.

Yes we have a more modern design on our froorboards so it may be able to work im our house
First I have heard of that. Can you post your issue on the Roborock Reddit?
Nice review. Do you know if the detergent on s8 maxv is also used for mopping the floor? Or only washing the mopads like Dreame?
Used for both.
@@jamie.andrews I finally decided to get this s8 maxv today from BestBuy, overall it was good. However, my unit kept failing to detect cables/cords no matter how big or small it is.
Thanks for honest and professional review, hope the eufy s1 pro review will go out before the campaign over
I'm trying to get it out before it is over. Any questions about it?
Hi Jamie
Thank you for the honest review.

Maybe wait for the Qrevo MaxV review or the Dreame X40. Have you seen my review of the X30?
Thanks Jamie for responding so quickly. I did see the x30 review which looks like the best out there right now. I suppose I should wait to see a review from you of the x40 and qrevo maxv.
Enjoy it. It is a good robot.

Should be the exact same except instead of water tanks there is a cold water line and a sewer line out the back. Otherwise the will function the same.
Great review. I've used several brands of robot vacs, including iRobot and Roborock beats them all. And no, I wasn't paid to write this. It's just a consistently good product. I'm currently using the S7 Max and won't be replacing it with this one. The S7 Max is still perfectly fine and . . . 1700 bucks? No.
Thanks for sharing. Roborock is actually better than this. Your S7 Max robot and your prior expierance stands to prove that fact.
Thanks for the review. I wonder on most of the "issues" highlighted can be resolved by a software update ...... For example, side brush, water temp,
Absolutely in fact I just got the first one today. Now I am frantically retesting to see if it fixed anything. So far no on the side brush as far as coming out under cabinets on a room cleaning it still does not and it is still delayed coming out on some corners. Hot water is stl non existent.

Not for the Flexi arm. Have not tested object avoidance yet.
Thanks for the review. I went with the X40.
Let me know how you like it. I should be getting mine soon.

Noted
Great review and as always very thorough! I think the price is a good bit more than I’d be willing to pay without enough enhancements over my less than 2 years old S7 Max V . But I did note that the Eufy S1 Pro was visible in one of the pics of the dock! Very excited about that unit with a completely new mopping system and relatively aggressive price. When can we expect that review??? There are many out today from unheard of and non-trusted sources, so looking for a review from a pro, preferably while still available on the kickstarter pricing!
Should have it out early next week.
It just needs to slow down before getting into the corner. Sometimes it does, but most times it does not.
so what robo vacuum/mop do you recommend? the best one, price no object
I am waiting on it to come in. I will likely do a head to head and hopefully RR has time to fix some of these issue.
@@jamie.andrews Not sure if there is much difference compared to the X30 Ultra that you have tested.
@@petitbarzun nothing major
@@jamie.andrews they now released the X40 pro in China. It is an ultra, but it's lidar unit can sink in it's body when needed.
Jamie, do you have any recommended settings? Should we be turning on the deep carpet cleaning setting to hit floor mats better?
All deep carpet cleaning does is over over them again. If you feel you need your carpets vacuumed twice then enable this setting.
Thanks. I suspect they will fix the software issues. The hair on the roller though there is no software to fix that.
What's the max power consumption? Also does it support 220v too?
@@clickjo yes in a few days.
Fantastic and comprehensive review... Very appreciated. You notice many more detailed things than other reviewers. Please keep up the outstanding work...
Much appreciated!
I don’t want mopping. Can you totally disable mopping and not load water?
Yes, but if you don't mop you may want to look at a less expensive model like the Q5 Pro.
Sounds like a lot of this as you mentioned could be updated via the firmware or software. Have you seen any updates on some the items with any app updates (flexiarm or water temp)?
Sadly no not on either of those 2 features.
@@jamie.andrews What about now? It's on sale for $1100 so I am tempted!
The L20 is a great unit. Have you seen my review on it?
@@jamie.andrews yes, it won your robot vacuum of the year award I recall. If you could only have one would you have the L20 or the S8 MaxV?
Hope you will check it out and let me know what you think!
hi can you do a washing test around the legs of a table? maybe adding some icing sugar?
I see the S1 Pro there, please release it so I know which one to get Jamie! thanks for all the help you provide!
Working on it!
What's the best robot hoover money can buy at the moment?
Pls post you review on the new QRevo MaxV. Thanks in advance
Will do soon
Thanks for the great review once again. Sadly the entire Roborock S8 series has been flawed from the get-go.. especially the S8 Pro Ultra was a major let down. The Q Revo is still by far their best robot vacuum in terms of price performance.
Can't say I disagree.
@@jamie.andrews Theo kinh nghiệm của bạn Roborock có tung ra các bản cập nhật để sửa các lỗi này không ?
Does the flexi arm work while the vacuum is on a runner ? I have runners in the kitchen so it would be great if it the arm comes out while the vacuum is on the runner. This would be nice to have. I saw the video and it’s not working. But something to work on for Roborock.
No it does not. So far for me only in corners.
Good video, I know how long these take! I am making one now.
Hey bud! This one was a good bit of work for sure!
The review I've been waiting for!! I came to your channel looking for it yesterday! I enjoy your honest, thorough reviews! Thank you.
Cant wait to see a comparison and testing video between this RR model, the new S8 Max Ultra
vs the X30 vs the x40.
That would be the battle of the latest robot competition.
Thanks so much. X40 is in transit to me.
@jamie.andrews Awesome! Do you think the new S8 Max Ultra is worth it or the latest Q Revo ?
I want to upgrade and am between these 8 series or the S7 Max (although I really don't want a camera) . I honestly am considering taking the plunge for either series.
I have an S7 (regular dock, not S7+ ),
but after getting wrapped in a chord one of wheels broke so I have been without a vacuum.
I wanted to wait till black Friday sales, but really need a new vac and the 3-5 yr warranty sounded helpful.
@@jamie.andrews Appreciate any feedback in advance.
@@Sun.n.Flowers honestly don't have any. Both the Qrevo Pro and MaxV are still in the box and the X40 is in transit.

Great review, doesn’t seem like it’s better enough to justify returning my S8 Pro Ultra I got for $900 on Amazon.
That is a huge price difference.
Should I buy this one or s8 pro ultra?
What is your budget? Do you need hot water mop washing, detergent injection, edge mopping, better obstacle avoidance, a swing out side brush? If you value those features over a more budget friendly model then go for the MaxV
❤❤ I just discovered you from Spain. Can you recommend which robot you would buy, no problem due to the price?
I don't recommend robots. I can help you if you let me know your needs and wants. Happy to answer questions you may have.
@@jamie.andrews x40 or s8 maxv or j9+?
Saludos.
It is on my list.
Nice review dude, very thourough. So, in conclusion, it's not PERFECT. But is it still not the best out there? I'm seriously considering picking this up shortly, and frankly just want the very best.
Once the Dreame X40 comes out we will have to see. The closest robot I have reviewed that comes close to this is the Dreame X30. I have a review for that on my channel. th-cam.com/video/XLLiOqt79Qc/w-d-xo.html

Any chance you will be uploading the Eufy S1 Pro video before it's kickstarter ends on April 30th? Even if you can't upload it in time I would would love to know your current opinion on it, thanks!
That is my plan. I hope to have it out by the 29th. I know that is close, but I can only make 1 video at a time ☺.
@@jamie.andrews Great news and totally understandable! Without spoiling the future video too much have you found any glaring issues with the Eufy S1 pro? I'm on the fence with backing the Kickstarter and am wondering if it is worth the $999 over similarly priced robo vacs. Thanks!
@@ROC1337 Yea like every robot I am going to find issues, however I am also working with them to get them fixed. I will have my video out before the end of the kickstarter.
great detailed review! thanks!

Ty!
I this in your eyes better than the iRobot Combi 9+?? Thanks
I have not tested that model yet, but in general I would say yes based on the J7 Combo I tested last year. I don't like their mopping system.
What a shocker! I hope they will fix these issues!!!
Dude. I know. This was one of the hardest video reviews to make. I hate saying bad things about any company and their products, but I have faith that Roborock will fix these and hopefully very soon.
@@jamie.andrews yeah. I feel Roborock is overengineering in a way and forgetting about the basics. Hopefully the Q Revo MaxV will be okay.
@@MrBlueCreeper Yea. QRevo is the cash cow. Has to be.
Are you also testing the Q Revo MaxV? A comparison would be interesting.
Yep. I just got it in a few days ago so it will be a bit.
@@jamie.andrews Thank you!
I hope you soon review Eufy S1 Pro very soon? Thank you for your reviewing so we would not have to :)
I hope to have it out in the next week.
How easily is the dock cleaning on this compared to the S7 MaxV?
I thought I read something about this new dock have self-cleaning ability but that sounds a bit off. Maybe it just means it can dry which helps avoid water sitting around getting gross.
Easier on the Qrevo due to a removable dock tray and nothing to clean in the base.
I just bought this for 1k USD on sale. Hope it is worth it. Can not wait for it to arrive.
Good deal
I was hoping to see auto-empty detection on this and other new Roborock models as I understood that Roomba's patent on this had expired in the same way their dual roller one had?
It has not expired yet. I think 2026 @xeon2k8 do you know?
Still froggin' I see, thank you for the review my man! Your loyal froggoler. Wen Q Revo MAXv?
Still in the box atm. I have 2 reviews ahead of it so my best guess is late May.
@@jamie.andrews Cool, I just ordered the Q REVO PRO, which is available in Europe right now..
Do you find that the dual brush on the s8 does better or worse than the single brush of the s7 maxv ultra?
S8 MaxV better. S8 worse.
