I’ll never get tired of watching this clip. One of the few times a TV show landed the plane perfectly. The show didn’t jump the shark. It stayed the course. And the ending rewarded the viewer for all the years they’ve watched it. Man, I miss the Blue.

It doesn’t surprise me that he’s kind of retired from acting, People talk about how modern day dramas are superior to ones from like 20-30 years ago. They are not. NYPD Blue, CSI, Law and Order, ER and other procedural programs are far superior in my opinion to the stuff on public tv, cable tv, or Netflix.

As someone who retired after 26 years in Camden NJ this show really got it. Andy played a great character as a detective and a sergeant. He took the heat for his men and women and they respected him in the end for it. I loved it when he said to a patrol cop in uniform "this is a working man, he is not a stiff". Andy was teaching that young cop how to police. That guy is making society a better place. I always thought of that when I was a sergeant, take care of your men & women and dont hurt the working man out there. Go after the people who are making society a bad place to live. To me, that is what cops should be doing. Too bad there are not any shows like this on TV any longer. Southland was great as well. (Same producer)

One of the best series to ever be on television. No one could have played the character like Dennis Franz. As a Vietnam Vet, he brought a realism to the character who was a Vietnam Vet, and all the psychological and sociological problems that it entailed. I spent 15 years in law enforcement, had a Sergeant that reminded me of Sipowicz in a lot of ways. He was constantly at odds with the brass over things, but he was good to all the officers below him that were all doing the job. Law enforcement is a lot of politics, a lot of BS and a lot of ass kissing by some and the good guys tend to be stuck in the same place for a long time or permanently. I was asked to take the Sergeant's exam and I turned them down flat because I wanted no part of the politics or the BS involved with it. You can bet in every department all across America, there's an Andy Sipocicz holding it together.

It has been amazing to watch all of these episodes in full again and follow these superbly written characters. Sipowicz...I feel a sort of kinship with him and can relate closely to him as I have experienced some of the same issues he has been through including the death of a child, and a new child from a second marriage to a younger woman (my son is 5 now and was born when I was 47, same age Andy was when Theo was born). As I watch him grow and deal with his personal shortcomings, demons and losses, and see how he overcomes them and continues to try and be a better person for Theo and Silvia, it inspires me to do the same. Anyway yeah, so thanks for putting me and this show back together. Also....mind blown at some of the actors that had bit parts throughout the first 4 seasons....including Giancarlo Esposito! I was like....whaaaaat? Yep, it’s Fring! Also...just watched an episode today with Currie Graham as a skell! That was trippy lol. Cheers.
