    Great clip, yeeesh, Laughlin was such a putz. They really assassinated Kirkendall’s character, they built it up quite well over the entirety of Thompson’s stay on Blue, and undid it all in one fell swoop on her way out the door. A real misstep by the writers I felt.

    Best part of this scene is Danny standing up and giving Laughlin the look, letting him know he would have to go through him.

    I’ve been a fan of Jill Kirkendall from the start. Thompson’s portrayal of her as an able, assertive, confident detective who wasn’t defined by her gender was right on time in the mid-1990s. I especially like how Sipowicz confided in her on a few occasions - perhaps moreso than anyone who wasn’t his partner. As for how she was written off…Svengalis are real.

    • @Deckard-by1qd
      @Deckard-by1qd ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I agree, Svengalis are a real thing, it just felt rushed and inauthentic in this case, one of the few blatant missteps in the entirety of Blue.

      @@Deckard-by1qd Curious on what do you think are the other few missteps of the show?

    • @Deckard-by1qd
      @Deckard-by1qd ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@bredrew1990 I don’t have a running tally, lol, but as a HUGE fan of the show, from beginning to end, one that immediately comes to mind is the interminably drawn out death of Simone. Loved the character, but THAT was hard to watch, and not in the way intended, IMHO.
      I mostly give it a pass, because of how AMAZING his return in The Vision Thing is portraying something decidedly un-Blue like, life after death, and not only making it poignant and unsaccharine, but ultimate one of my all time fave scenes in the entire run. I think, most if not all of us would be happy if the afterlife resembled that scene in any shape or fashion.

    • @Deckard-by1qd
      @Deckard-by1qd ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@bredrew1990 Also, to be clear, the show maintained an often unseen quality considering it went for 12 seasons. It had its peaks and valleys, but its peaks were really high, and its valleys were equal to many shows’ peaks. I’ve listed my main two plot quibbles, the rest is mostly minor blip on the screen stuff.

    I listened to the Sopranos podcast,: Schirripa and Imperiolli go on and on about how great the Sopranos was.. And I agree it was and is a great series.. However, watching NYPD Blues.. this show is so good. It really sets the standard for writing and acting...Do yourself a favor and watch it..

      If true when he wanted to show how evil was to harm Clark Jr not only taking advantage of the friction he had with Clark to stay with Rita and be the braggart of the Squad but he wanted to stain
      But sooner rather than later that went against him.
      Because he played with fire and ended up losing, thus demonstrating that as a selfish braggart he did not even get recognized.

      Yup. I think the same with Clark too. It seems, as you know, most fans LUVED Simone, and when he died, that is nearly it. Everything else, just seemed "second rate" to those fans. I maybe biased, but I always like that whole "gulf war veteran/era" that Sorenson character had. Being one (era) myself, it's just rare that is inserted into a storyline.

    I always wonder if actors on a series like this ever get actually angry at a protagonist. It seems like it would be hard to act without feeling some emotion. Obviously, they don't stay angry, but I just wonder if they ever feel some animosity.

    • @danieldickson8591
      @danieldickson8591 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's a common technique for actors to imagine how they'd feel in the situation they're playing, and to try to call up some of that emotion so their performance will seem more real. Most of the time we can separate our characters from our real selves, but sometimes our feelings can get mixed up, especially if we play the same character often or for a long time. (Yes, I'm an actor.)
