    I think your videos themselves are a testament to exactly what you’re saying being effective. Your personality / sense of humor is show and amplified and people connect with those parts of themselves they see in you, and the great practical advice and content quality makes it have staying power. But it starts with knowing who you are and not being afraid to show it for sure. Excited to see how I can do the same now that I know myself much more and feel in a position to use the LAMES analysis in an intentional way

    For Music + Talk shows would you recommend also putting them on TH-cam with a face cam? I know it wouldn't work through anchor and I'd probably get demonitized but the whole point is to build relationships with fans and other artists and not to make money directly from it. What do you think? Sorry this is a bit off topic. Music + Talk has worked wonders for me so far when it comes to connecting with other artists so thank you for the idea.

    how exactly do musicians build a community starting from zero? I love your vids and your book as it's all practical advice but even the '0-1000000 fans' vid seems to skip the infancy stage of artists with zero followers to market to. some of the places you've mentioned like reddit aren't great at building communities since redditors are largely anonymous and spam is not well-received. I'm sure there's anecdotal evidence for this but I'm on music subreddits all day everyday and have never seen artists build themselves in that way. then, getting on a Spotify playlist is a drop in the ocean. consistent sustained promo is awesome but I see many artists who are consistently promoting to NO ONE for years, and still haven't gotten anywhere. sure, sometimes it's people whose music stinks, but some of them are actually really talented.
    let's say an artist starts a bunch of social media accounts and have zero followers... what are those *very* first steps? I know you hate ads but without them it seems pretty impossible to reach complete strangers since the algorithms get tighter and tighter every year. I have so many questions and so few answers ;-(
    I mean no disrespect btw -- love your content and advice. you're the best source for this stuff. just wondering if at some point you can really dive into the "starting from ground zero where literally no one cares about your existence" stage. good tunes, no label, no fans, no friends. ZERO zero. maybe there's a video you could direct me to but the ones I've seen don't seem to address this in a direct, concise way.

    • @Musformation
      @Musformation  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      That’s in the community video a lot of it is making friends and then supporting each other via posts and playlists… I do get some genres are less community based and you have to hope for submit hub placements and do a lot more reaching out to other artists with a low success rate but I still see when people stick to it through the rejection it works

    • @jorgevallentine
      @jorgevallentine ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think the hard part is being honest with yourself and figuring out who you really are and what that means for the community you want/fit into. Until you’re there, you’ll be trying to fit into a place because you want fans/follower and since it’s not because you truly believe you’re part of that community and want to do work and connect with people in it, it’ll essentially be just an inauthentic version of you and it won’t have the impact you want.
      I’m still just turning the corner on this stuff, but I’m now just finding myself around people who connect with me more and more when I perform and it’s because I got to know myself after going through an abusive relationship of many years and started coming out the other side of it.
      But if we seek to insert ourselves into a place only for the potential gain, it won’t be genuine and probably won’t work out long term because faking who we are is exhausting, while being authentic to ourselves is inspiring and leads us to people / communities who are like us and are most likely to connect with our music as a result of them having similar experiences.

    Maybe I'm just a simple man with A.D.H.D., but I'm finding the backgrounds often very distracting to what you're saying in your new video style. Especially as some are not directly related to or emphasizing/showing what you're specifically talking about at that very moment. Finding myself going back over and over, and instead just moved away from the video to listen to only the audio (which sucks because I do enjoy watching you as a person) where I was not with your older more simple style of videos. Though I will say I do really enjoy it strictly as a visual aesthetic, your new videos do *look* great! They just seem to be extremely distracting to what you're saying. I noticed it most at moments like when your face is moving around the screen, then that visual focal point is replaced with a "who am I" type message. I had to go back and actively ignore my mind's response to read what's presented in front of me, then find your face again to reengage with what you're saying, and thus losing the train of thought. That movement works for CasualGeographic and other comedy, but I feel like in a video like this, where you're trying to actively listen to a teacher and take in their information while mapping that out over your own personal situation, it becomes too much..... IMO/I'mNotTheExpertHere/#neurodivergenerate/ThanksForComingToMyTedxTalk/
