  • Jesse Cannon debunks some popular misconceptions about the role of albums in an artist's career and explain why albums are not 'dead.' We discuss the artistic and financial importance of albums, how an album's definition can be flexible, and the transformative nature of albums in the streaming era. We also delve into various strategies for marketing your album effectively, ranging from pre-launch hype, and merchandising bundles, to post-launch content like remixes or deluxe editions. The video is meant to guide artists on how to utilize albums to grow their fan base and boost their career trajectory, even in the predominance of singles and track-oriented listening.

In the dynamic world of music and digital content, the relevance of albums continues to be a hotly debated topic, especially among TH-camrs and content creators who often leverage controversial statements for views and monetization. Contrary to the provocative claims that "the album is dead," many artists still place immense value on their albums, treating them as significant artistic statements or milestones that mark an era in their careers. Albums offer a unique opportunity for artists to express themselves, connect with fans on a deeper level, and create a moment of reflection and anticipation within their fan base. This is evident in the careful attention and effort artists invest in crafting their albums, which goes beyond mere financial incentives, highlighting the album's enduring importance as a medium for artistic expression and fan engagement.
Understanding what an album truly represents in today's digital age is crucial for both artists and their audiences. Historically, albums served as a collection of songs meant to be experienced together, a concept that has remained relatively unchanged despite the evolution of music consumption from physical to digital formats. However, the digital era introduces flexibility in how albums can be presented and altered, offering artists creative freedom to redefine their albums post-release. This adaptability challenges traditional notions of what an album is, allowing it to be a dynamic entity that can reflect changes in an artist's vision or respond to cultural shifts. Despite these changes, the core function of an album as a cohesive artistic statement remains, serving as a testament to an artist's creative journey and a focal point for fan engagement and discussion.

Thanks Jesse! What do you think about having some instrumental filler songs in an album? If we're doing a waterfall release, should we release the instrumentals as singles or save them until we drop the full album? Concerned about the popularity score.

As always, thanks for the edification, Jesse! My question is on smaller playlists. How are we to pitch our song in advance to other smaller playlists before our track has released? Should we upload to sound cloud? I cant imagine they'd be stoked about getting a downloadable mp3 via email?
Or do we just wait until it releases?
