If you're enjoying this video and want more like it. For $5 a month I dissect all the most innovative marketing techniques musicians are using to go from 0 to millions of streams RIGHT NOW. You will probably love this video if you are looking for that. musformationlabs.com/musformation-labs/
I am a so called “trust fund baby” who makes music. I’ve been in that label meeting because someone made a call. I got the door opened. But I never did the actual work to be ready for that moment. I was good enough to get someone interested but didn’t have the other stuff to back it up. It was sobering, but looking back the greatest source of the motivation I have today. I was 20 steps behind. I’m just now finding a voice and really enjoying the practice of making art and building a fan base by living my true self.
Nice
Ty for sharing
I appreciate the honesty about the reality of music promotion and the tip about Penji. I'm gonna check them out for sure. Keep the real talk coming!

It's refreshing to hear someone call out the BS in the music industry. The "good music promotes itself" myth is definitely a frustrating one.
Thanks and yeah that one’s especiqllly silly

As good a compliment as I can get
Dude, this is 🔥! Never thought of it that way - the susceptibility thing is 🤯!
Yeah I’ve mentioned this once or twice before (in my 320 videos lol) but it’s a thing no one thinks about but radio for example measures
I really like your approach in explaining things Jesse! It made us easy to analyze and understand the thoughts that you have.
That’s really nice thank you
always appreciate your advice
Absolutely! Even the best songs need strategic promotion to succeed.
Well said! It's all about getting your music heard by the right people.

Jesse you’re still one of my holdouts of TH-camrs I think I can trust. I definitely want to know the tools you actually use (even what sucks about them). Always enjoy your vids 👏👏👏
I’m gonna make a video about that did you see my music resource list. It’s on my free tools page if you look in the description
Wow, Jesse, you really bring clarity to the chaos of music promotion myths. Your insights on the importance of editorial playlists versus building a large catalog are eye-opening. I'm curious, what advice would you give to artists who are just starting out and navigating these myths for the first time?
I love the content Jesse about destroying music promotion.
🕺🏼
Great insight regarding music promotion, i've read a lot of them online and now thinking which ones are actually true!

Great content guys! Looking forward for more content!
This video is packed with so much valuable knowledge! It's awesome!
Agree! Nobody can control what charts, sometimes a completely random or an old song would chart because there was a tiktok challenge that used it.
Really loved how you explained it Jesse, you nailed it :)

Editorial playlists are still important. Getting your music on editorial playlists can lead to algorithmic playlist placements and more streams
Another great video. Thank you Jesse
Wake up babe, Meeting People Is Easy reference just dropped

Keep up the great work!
Awww thanks
The best part about the RFK Jr. thing is that the brain worm DIED after eating his brain.
It’s so funny
Malnutrition, probably
You may have heard this before, but the truth is, lots of independent artists have found their own unique paths to success!
Interesting take on music promotion. Thanks for the tips!
Nice content jesse ^^
Whoa, that nepo baby thing... we're all just internet detectives now, huh? 🕵♂
Not what I actually said, but as someone who knows a lot of artists actual stories if most people were as bad at their jobs as internet detectives who investigate who peoples parents are they’d be fired very fast.
your memes are getting deadly and the info is super fucking helpful as always, thank you hope you're doing well 🙏
Charming my pants off saying the memes are deadly
@@Musformation “In The TikTok Mines in America” bro 😂😂😂
@@Musformation “…why their parents names are blue on Wikipedia” 🥵
@currentcontentco imma be honest I Was drunk coming home in an Uber when that one hit and I saw it in the morning and I was like “YOU MOTHER FUCKER!”
@@Musformation ayo random thought, do u have a video showing how to set up a waterfall release on distrokid? Still a solid idea to waterfall release?
You gain yourself a follower
new subscriber here ^^ , loved ur content
It's an intriguing thought that some people believe you need a record deal to truly make it as a musician. What do you think?
Really silly in 2024
Nice Content thanks
I Love this content keep it out
My takeaways:
Nepotism Exists, But It's Not Everything
Major Labels Aren't Always the Answer
Quality Over Quantity
Editorial Playlists Matter
Social Media Isn't the Only Way
Astute student
I fucking love your content dude So education and entertaining at the same time
Much appreciated
It's better to have a few exceptional songs than a large catalog of mediocre ones.
nice content!
Woah! This is interesting!
Can you please explain how Cannon's Law disproves the idea that self-promotion is the key to success in the music industry?
It doesn’t disprove it states any discussion that happens someone has to state that despite everyone knowing that to be true
Editorials have always been a myth, I've managed to get in the top 0.5% of Spotify artists apparently and I've never been featured on one.
Yet again it is not very wise to base anecdotal experience and apply it to a wide range of genres
Jesse can we get more ideas and examples on short form content to find your audience?
Tonight’s member video has a ton of
The chances for landing on spotify editorial playlist seems really nonexistent if you have no plans to promote yourself via ads/marketing. Or don’t mention you will do so in the pitch. I only know this because a friend of mine has made it on ones before and told me thats what he put in his pitch.
I suggest putting that in your pitch in my video on this
@@Musformation Ah, I got to go find it then. Thanks as always for providing insightful content!
TLDR you can lie about that (wthin reason), they aren't checking
Wait.. I just looked at penji. Unless I'm missing something, it seems their cheapest price is 500 dollars a month!!!? What part of you thinks anyone has that amount of disposable income?
Yeah I was a bit surprised they think we got that
People are signing up so 🤷♂️. Let’s also remember when I do sponsorships it’s not me saying this is something you all need to use it’s me saying “this is a good product that may work for some of you.”
definitely affordable for a small business or someone who needs atleast $500 worth of graphic design work a month
Graphic designers sometimes want $300 + for one job.
What Radiohead movie are you talking about at 5:17
Meeting people is easy
jesse ur my fav person on the internet
❤️
🤮
Bro! Why you gotta make me work so hard😩😖
I don’t make the rules I just explain em dawg
So basically, forget the "good music promotes itself" myth? Time to hit TikTok, then! 😏
1000000%
TikTok is probably the best platform to engage a larger audience or fanbase in my opinion.
Thanks as always Jesse! Beware the dark halls of reddit... they have cave trolls
lol I know ot
The fart jokes wont stop right? :)
WITTR made it clear they liked my music when they took my band out on tour, i had 0 $$$ but my bassist at the time was in his first bands with the dudes. They (WITTR)get shit all the time for being nepo babies or trustafarians. I dont think that's what got them where they are tho. I think they did a lot of smart things that payed off and for some it takes off quicker than others regardless of $$$. its true, comparison is the thief of joy. I used to get upset when i would get compared to Bell Witch, Well B@#$* I headlined there first show. short story long and many bragging points later i must say that your books and consultations have helped me see things in a more positive light. Not many can say that Deafheaven drove from SF to SLO to see their band play. Also MERZBOW has a F ton of releases on Spotify and im here for it, it legit looks like homie is releasing a album wevy 6 weeks, his collabs are lit; I got the one w Meat Beat Manifesto on vinyl it slaps.
Agreed, good music needs to find its audience. Promotion is key!
Would posting more than 7 times a week on Tiktok be too much? I'm asking cuz I made enough content to post 3 times a day for the next 3 months
Nope but many people who analyze what TikTok spits out to the public are saying it’s clear they are looking for quality over quantity once you are over a few posts a week not just trying to fill holes on a calendar
@@Musformation That's good to hear cuz we spent some effort on these videos this time around lol
💯❤🔥
now now We all know that you need 150 plus iq and a long succesful career as a minimum to comment on reddit
I’m actually shocked some peoples keyboards haven’t died from all the drool
Stop torturing us Jesse
Wut
youre videos are great and super helpful but i really hate the AI generated imagery in here :( Especially as someone in the creative industry both in music and art, it's disappointed to see you support the AI instead of artists
So here’s my distinction. The only time I use AI art is when I would. Have never paid for an artist. I strongly support hiring artists that are human for anything but in the past I would have just googled image of a lot of shit and cave and done a fast photoshop. I agree with you we should not replace artists etc but if it’s just a new method to make something you would have done yourself this is no different than saying photoshop took typesetter jobs.
The music industry isn't as rigged as some believe.Major labels don't necessarily control the charts, and nepotism isn't the only way to get noticed.
look i had to stop watching i dont like fkn algorthm noisy type of format. dude just chill
Gotta break some eggs to make an omelet
Trump 2024! Save America from the weirdos and geeks who never got laid in High School!
You know what gives off big “I got laid in high school energy” going in the TH-cam comments of a guy discussing music marketing to talk about the ridiculous idea of who you voted for determines who got laid in high school. Real sad life you’re living and bragging about.
@@Musformation😂😂 cook him g
Hahahaha!!! I think I hit a nerve with that one!
thanks Jessie you are my favorite Myth Buster🫡
