I have been informed that there is 1 dungeon with 1 boss in vintage story. I was not aware of this, but I don’t think it takes away from my overall point.

Yes and no. The thing you were talking about is that games like Minecraft and Terraria had bosses. You were gearing up to fight them which is the same case for Vintage Story.
The difference however is this: You are never told there is a boss in Vintage Story. There is even only a very minor chance that you get to find one in the first 500 hours of you playing without knowing how to find it. In minecraft on the other end, finding the boss is easy. Or rather bosses as the Wither and Sea Guardian exist. You are not just given direct in world hints but also are encouraged to try to throw an eye of ender.
So in Vintage Story while it does have a boss, you are more just gearing up to... explore more and are then rewarded with finding the dungeon and boss by exploration of your own. There is more than just exploration to it. I wont tell you more for obvious reasons. But just know that you cannot find it that easily unlike in MC where Endereye specifically is very easily aquired by even a noob.
As I like to say it: Minecrafts Bosses are required for progression, Terrarias Bosses are the same. Vintage Stories boss (later in the updates plural as things seem to be planned) is so optional that they just become more Lore for the world for you to discover.

@@donald12998 Right. I understand the boss that currently exists reveals a lot more about the lore, hints of which you pick up along the way.
That said, defeating it is not "the point" of the game; it's just something else to do *in* the game.
I have literally hundreds of hours in Vintage Story, at this point, and I've never bothered to even look for the final boss. 🤷‍♂
Oh, I'll do it eventually, but I play irregularly enough (I have a day job and other interests), and they issue updates often enough, that I sometimes find it easier to upgrade once I return after an absence, and then start over again.
Plus, the depth of the lore that currently exists tells me the DEVs have a roadmap that takes the game unimaginably far.
In that sense, it's kinda like Dwarf Fortress development -- the Adamses have spent decades working on Dwarf Fortress, and it will never really "end."
They'll just stop working on it when they get too old to do so, and shift it to someone who respects Dwarf Fortress and willingly takes on responsibility for it.
Vintage Story feels similar -- the small DEV team apparently enjoys making it for its own sake; they have no interest in monetizing it much more than needed to make it self-sustaining; and they'll just keep working on it until they've had enough.
They also make modding *dead easy* so there's always new content from *somebody* , and the DEVs interact enthusiastically with the fan base as a source of ideas and suggestions.
That's about as good as it gets. 😊
(They do need to figure out how to make realistic rivers, though. The current "Rivers" mod isn't bad, but it doesn't reflect how rivers *actually* work, either, because realistic hydrology is *hard* .)

Little mistake there - iron tools do not follow same process as casting copper tools, process is more advanced with use of bloomery furnace. And then steel is even more different

    • @krabgrass

The most tedious thing about the steel making process is having to constantly check under the steel furnace for fuel since it takes over 30 hours for the process to complete. I've finally reached the steel age but unfortunately the snowfall has made the cooking process difficult lol smh

A beautifully done video that captures very well why VS is so compelling. I tell people all the time that it’s an incredible game and there’s nothing else as rewarding right now, but I don’t think I express it very well. Now I have TWO videos I can send to people, your earlier one and this one. I hope you do a VS series. I see a lot of people lately trying to play it as if it were equivalent with Minecraft, and sort of missing the point, as well as ignoring the sheer gorgeousness of the world. You get it. I’d love to watch your playthrough(s).

When I pop on a large server and my friends immediately give me the direction toward the chest room they built where I can instantly pick end game stuff it really goes against everything I like in this game.
I want to build MY little house that blends with the landscape with small outbuildings meticulously dedicated to tasks AND I want to go through hell to get there. That's the point.

There are a of people who just can't take critisims for what they are and as a person who dont really enjoying building in general i dont want to play minecraft for a longer period of time as it is just weak in other departments
I do love building in terraria and vintage story sometimes because for the amount of work i put in i can make some really beatifull looking builds. The good looking blocks and furniture options and the amount of 'customizability(chisel in vs and hammering+painting+huge_varity in terraria)' these two games provide just makes me want to do it sometimes but as for minecraft it just lacks so much that i can't get into it

As someone with well over 300h in this game that STILL hasn't seen the archives (current "endgame"), one thing i really like about Vintage Story is that yes it takes time to do things and some of those tasks may be a little tedious. BUT a lot of those tasks are things with a wait time on it before it can be processed further, so you go do other things while thats going like making charcoal. Shove a bunch of wood in a dirt hole and let it cook, meanwhile due to all the wood chopping you'v now gathered a bunch of sticks wich you need a lot for more pottery firing, now go off and search for some copper or build a little bit etc. It never feels like you are "wasting" your time because there is always something to do wich makes it feel like you are constantly progressing however small that progress might be. Unlike the other block game where you pretty early hit a wall of "well now what?"

    • @cherryrook8684
      @cherryrook8684 23 วันที่ผ่านมา

The other thing i really like in regards to how hard and "tedious" the material acquisition is it keeps the build sizes naturally small to medium (in survival at least). It is very time consuming to build even moderatly elaborate medium buildings but the sense of pride when you finish it is immense. Again in the other block games there you can make automated mega farms to acquire blocks in the thousands while not even having to do anything besides the initial farm setup, wich inflates build sizes greatly even in survival. I very much like how the player is driven towards building "realistic" without even being explicitly told to do so in VS and the overall rustic asthetics of the game just create very cozy looking houses and farmsteads

rainworld is surprisingly similar to this game and i think vintage story is the only game i would call "rainworldlike" in the sense that they are both survival games where your reward for "getting gud" and gaining knowledge is the skill and knowledge itself and no matter how skilled you are becoming the game will always remind you you arent here to be the big hero but your just another being simply trying to survive you never truly reach that top of the food chain

    • @magoleo-pr7if
      @magoleo-pr7if 28 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

Difference is in rain world you don't build/keep anything, only one item in your belly and two on your hands is 99% of what you get the entire game, which puts a lot of focus on exploring and learning, if you are a veteran you can technically rush to 5P on your first few days, meanwhile VS has an item-based progression, with a lot of purpose on base building and tinkering with the crafting mechanics

All the people here who bought this Vintage Story to admire its surreal heft have precisely the wrong mindset. I, in my exalted wisdom and unbridled ambition, bought this Vintage Story to become fully accustomed to the intensity of its density, to make its weight bearable and in fact normal to me, so that all the world around me may fade into a fluffy arena of gravitational inconsequence. And it has worked, to profound success. I have carried the Vintage Story with me, have grown attached to the downward pull of its small form, its desire to be one with the floor. This force has become so normal to me that lifting any other object now feels like lifting cotton candy, or a fluffy pillow. Big burly manly men who pump Terraria now seem to me as little children who raise mere Minecraft.
I can hardly remember the days before I became a man of Vintage Story. How distant those days seem now, how burdened by the apparent heaviness of everyday objects. I laugh at the philistines who still operate in a world devoid of Vintage Story, their shoulders thin and unempowered by the experience of bearing Vintage Story. Ha, what fools, blissful in their ignorance, anesthetized by their lack of meaningful struggle, devoid of passion.
Nietzsche once said that a man who has a why can bear almost any how. But a man who has a Vintage Story can bear any object less dense, and all this talk of why and how becomes unnecessary.
Schopenhauer once said that every man takes the limits of his own field of vision for the limits of the world. Vintage Story expands the limits of a man’s field of vision by showing him an example of increased density, in comparison to which the everyday objects to which he was formerly accustomed gain a light and airy quality. Who can lament the tragedy of life, when surrounded by such lightweight objects? Who can cry in a world of Stardew Valley and Raft?
Have you yet understood? This is no ordinary survival sandbox. In this game is the alchemical potential to transform your world, by transforming your expectations. Those who have not yet held the Vintage Story in their hands and mouths will not understand, for they still live in a world of normal density, like Plato’s cave dwellers. Those who have opened their mind to the density of Vintage Story will shift their expectations of weight and density accordingly.
To give this Vintage Story a rating of anything less than five stars would be to condemn life itself. Who am I, as a mere mortal, to judge the most compact of all affordable games? No. I say gratefully to whichever grand being may have created this universe: good job on the Vintage Story. It sure is dense.
I sit here with my Vintage Story, transcendent above death itself. For insofar as this Vintage Story will last forever, I am in the presence of immortality.

I dont think its fair to compare those games to one another since they are trying to accomplish different things. Minecraft is colourful and quirky and while there are survival elements in the game, focus is more on the building and doing creative stuff. Which is why game doesnt slow you down and instead it pushes you into being able to do what you want to do and challenges in Minecraft come from technical thigs or from other players. Its one of the best games for a reason. Vintage Story is also really great game that is yet to push itself out in the world, but its different than Minecraft. Its about survival and its challenges are that you need to be creative to survive and thrive.

They aren't bringing it to steam yet because a variety of reasons.
You have to get it the old school way you would MC back in the day.

Slightly off-topic: every time I see Vintage Story I always think that it really lacks a Gregtech clone (for those how doesn't know, Gregtech is a one of the most, probably even the most long, complicated and grindy Minecraft tech mods). Like they kind of fit together, at least both are long and overly realistic and have a lot of progression so imho Gregtech fits Vintage Story better than Minecraft, and I saw several TerraFirmaGreg modpacks out there so it's not a very unusual idea.
Like really, iirc Vintage Story modding community has no such big mods like Minecraft does (maybe this changed). Probably this is because Vintage Story has more context and a more cohesive vision on a player experience
