@@SanguineRedTalks It just depends on the rock type in your area. Some stones, like shale, claystone, sandstone, chalk or limestone are too soft to use as tools/weapons. Besides stones on the ground, there is the aforementioned flint found all over the world and basalt areas that have useful black basalt stone and the even darker black obsidian stones. Visual cues play a larger role in Vintage Story then you might think. If you see a piece of rock in the cluster that is slightly darker than the granite, that will have flint, and that visual clue translates to all rock types. Same with sticks, if you see branch like bits in the tree leaves or bushes, those are guaranteed to drop sticks. Knowing little bits of the environment can drastically assist in your ability to survive, in some cases this translates to weather you are able to, or not. Vintage Story does not tell you this, but the more you play it, the more you pick up on these clues. That is perhaps the best piece of advice I can give. Look for differences in the world, no matter how subtle. They can help provide patterns that our monkey brains will pick up on.
I’ve recently gotten into Vintage Story (through a friend) and I have to say you’ve covered pretty much all the basics! I’d like to add though: hunting is also a pretty huge mechanic. You really need to weigh the risks and rewards of going out to find meat, and you really need to plan ahead if you want to *raise* meat. Wild animals *will* fight back, and when raising your own livestock you have to consider the time, food, space and storage needed for all of that. There really is so much to do in VS that really immerses the player in this beautiful world and I love it to death. I’m super excited for the next update as well, which is going to be including not only custom boat builds, but mounts! (I also suspect some animals are getting revamped and prettied up, which is delightful imho) There’s also an additional function when it comes to building and that would be the chiselling. Being able to edit the voxels of nearly any cubic block is absolutely incredible for those of us who *really* enjoy building and decorating. And the last thing I’d say that gives this game a wonderful selling point: the whole thing is built with modding in mind. @@WasatchWind I've seen a few "Minecraft clone!" haters, yes. But I think you're right about bad experiences. People see VS for the first time, and instantly think MC with prettier graphics. The game looks amazing. I'm not a fan of the player model though. Looks like an enderman sewed together some human skin and decided to larp as a player. Seraph is also a strange name for the player character. From what I can see, we don't have 6 eye covered wings coming out of our backs, we also don't have 4 faces. I'm pretty sure the eldritch beings would be fleeing with fear if we were a Seraph too.
You really deserve lots of views from the quality you put into videos, it was very well explained and narrated. I just clicked for curiosity and now you've earned yourself a new sub, so keep up your amazing work (:
Thanks very much. We all have to start somewhere but I wanted to launch out of the gate with good quality stuff. Thanks for watching and subscribing, means a lot and help me keep putting the many, many hours in.
Honestly this video got me to get the game. Don't usually click videos with low view count but was pleasantly surprised by the quality form this video. Good job!
I've played this game for about half a year now, introduced to it by friend. I love it. It's such a fantastic game, and I find that I prefer it over Minecraft.
The Timestorms, at least when I played, are way too unforgiving. This is a game, mind you, where making a weapon for yourself takes about 3 hours of dedicated grinding. Then you loose it and your lantern in a cave you were exploring after the 30th tainted drifter ganks you and suddenly that progress is gone, you go back to your base and then there is a Timestorm, it will take you 50 minutes to get a replacement DESPITE THE FACT YOU HAVE THE MATERIALS READY AND AT HAND So have fun repeatedly dying and fighting off hordes of enemies with a stone knife
You can turn off timestorms, drifter attacks, and keep your inventory. Just saying. 😉 But if you don't like spending time doing things it's not your game. Some people love the rewarding feeling to accomplish things the hard way, some don't. That's okay. There are games for every taste.
It’s rare to see gameplay focus so good it’s actually held back by the aesthetics of the ui. This game would absolutely benefit from a top tier Ui/Ux team and they’re probably jeopardizing their own success by not investing in this. I get it’s in Development, but it would garner much more attention if it has superb and clean UI
Indeed. But I have to talk of the out of box experience as it were so those who may be interested get the full look. In hindsight yes I probably should've pointed that out better in the end but lesson learned.
I disagree heavily with the autodetect idea for crafting, that would be highly irritating for those who want to preserve certain items in their inventories as opposed to using the already damaged or near broken ones. Also, regarding modding, the game has better modding functionality around it than minecraft as the game itself is a mod for the engine. A custom made one by the devs, at that. Additionally, modding is super simple, in which you can plug and play mods. There is also a one click install button shoots the install right into your game. ALSO, joining modded servers is super simple. The game will autodownload whatever modifications the server has put on it, upon joining. Figured to jab that extra bit in there. That all aside, good review of the game and I can only hope more people pick it up!
Yes indeed It would require either a priority list based on inventory slots but honestly I'd be happy if it just didn't use up durability, simply the act of having the tool in your inventory would be the check. Yes the modding is really great. Thanks for watching as well, much appreciated
This game is (shockingly) based on a minecraft mod called TerraFirmaCraft. The tools in crafting recipe is a staple of modded minecraft, not a technical limitation.
Haven't played the that mod myself but it's been mentioned a few times. Apparently Vintage Story was made by the devs of a Minecraft mod called Vintage Craft which was inspired by TerraFirmaCraft back in the 2010's. So yes definitely some DNA in there. Although being in their own custom engine with Vintage Story, they're not restricted like a Minecraft Mod would be so hopefully as time goes on they will continue to make it more their own. Also on the roadmap of Vintage Story is making more of the crafting, example firewood, more like Knapping and clay moulding, so getting it out of the crafting grid too.
@@SanguineRedTalks that’s something that I love about this game. There are endless quirks and tweaks and soft mechanics that only come with time and experience. It feels like the skill curve of actually learning a craft or trade. I will say, the online multiplayer community is really exceptional for this. Even after 200+ hours of single player and “beating” the game, I still learned a lot when I began encountering other players.
Picked it up just a couple of days ago. It's okay. It's no Minecraft, and I dont think I'll put the hours into it to really do anything. It's just too tedious. It's just a video game at the end of the day and as someone who has hitchhiked, foraged, stayed in a tipi I built for a winter etc. eh I dont care for these video games that edge lord on about "realism" We'll see, but judging by the devs, they know where they wanna take it, and for me its a game I coulda slept on for a bit longer. It's cool. I like the lore aspect, but ultimately, nothing that hasnt been done with Minecraft mods at the end of the day.
Dude, you're really putting the work in there. I'm pretty sure your channel is gonna explode the coming months. Abiotic Factor is a game i would recommend to further catapult the attention your channel get's. I'm not an expert, but my hunch is you're gonna like it, and it would do well on youtube.
Thanks very much and thanks for watching. Yes I've watched a Let's Play series on Abiotic Factor. I just haven't bought and played it myself yet. It indeed seems fun and I'm a fan of Half-Life so I want to check it out. I always make sure I've played a game a lot, especially if it's game like that, before I feel confident making a video about it so it might be a while however.
the game should have a mode where stuff takes less time to make cause its just stupid how long shit takes to be made here its not fun its not a good gameplay
I will indeed concede that the time things take is too long, though I enjoy the game it is something I also dislike about it. Most peoples responses to queries about it or suggestions seem to be, just do something else while you wait, attitude which I also dislike. No mods seem to address this either.
In my opinion, it was really lacking for end-game content and the ore system could be a LITTLE over complicated. My interest dropped off when I figured out what I would have to do to make stronger tools and weapons. Everything else was fun. I also think there should be more to the world when it came to random generation. Like maybe villager towns and maybe quests?
There is a mod for villages, with inhabitants. It is still in development, so endgame stuff is not really there. But what I've seen from the addition of the archive, some kind of dungeon, there are cool things to come. The archive is huge, full of lore and really beautiful. A labor of love, they put so much work into the design. They are a small team, but the game grows steadily. I took a pause after hundreds of hours, but I still love it. I don't have the time right now, I get sucked in. 😂 But it's always fun to watch people discovering it. It's not for everyone, but many people fall in love. It's beautiful, it's very immersive for me, and it gets better with every update. They clearly have a plan. And wherever that may end, I'm in for the ride.
the need to drag a tool... maybe it is slightly annoying nitpick, but i can totally 100% see myself getting annoyed by not knowing why the hell i cant craft something, only then to remember i dont have my axe with me. As a newbie i may not even realise it. okay, i made some chopped logs, back to chopping trees. After thats done, wth? Did the game bug out? Why cant i craft them anymore?
There's things i love about it.. but things i hate about it. Not a fan of the visuals.. too gritty i guess for my tastes.. But considering the fact that we have NO idea when Hytale will release.. it might be a good hold over until then. I love what i've seen of the combat in Hytale.. the combat in this game looks.. finicky much like minecraft..
This just seems like the minecraft mod terrafirmacraft with the addition of temporal stuff. I would straight up just use this video as a guide to terrafirmacraft just because of how most of the mechanics are nearly identical.
@SanguineRedTalks Aha, ive done a little research. So vintage story was built as a standalone game based on the minecraft mod vintage craft which was created in 2015 by the very same devs, however vintage craft was heavily inspired by terrafirmacraft, a mod that started development in 2012. Ultimately, the devs of vintage craft made vintage story due to the limitations that minecraft had.
With the amount of time it takes to do anything, the only way I can recommend playing the game is multiplayer. I dont recommend playing singleplayer unless you're unemployed
so i havent played vintage story to start with. but this game seems like an incomplete version of the mod TerraFirmaCraft for minecraft. check it out if you like this
So it apparently started as a Minecraft mod called Vintage Craft, they moved to making their own engine and are making Vintage Story now. They were apparently inspired by TerraFirmaCraft indeed.
Indeed it isn't very costly. Here in Australia it ends up being about $30 AUD, which is about 1/3 the cost of a new game on steam. Definitely worth it!
@@boredom4me877 I bought Vintage Story with Paypal which was connected to my Mastercard so I'm not 100% sure about just using card. You can get it on Humble Bundle Or Itch.io but it seems to cost a little more there.
But what about the game optimization? Can i run it on a old intel-3 4-gigabyte ram, 8 gigabytes memeory computer? If i leave it alone for 20 minutes will i find a hot laptop or will it go into some sort of eco mode.
That knowledge is a bit beyond what I do for my videos but if you're curious the minimum specs are on the Vintage Story website right here www.vintagestory.at/sysrequirements/ For the laptops honestly it would depend entirely on the laptop.
I have played this game extensively. Give it a pass. It is still YEARS away from being a finished product. And it shows. Also, as a game, it is not very good. As a game it is VERY obtuse. The game-loop is fighting you the entire time. It doesn't flow very well. And it kind of peters out around black bronze, and you have to force yourself to continue on. Most let's plays end right there, because the majority of people just can't carry on past that. They are constantly improving the game. But the time between updates is long. Too long for my like. Understandable, of course, given the small size of the development team. But still too long for the "consumer". People should abandon the desire to play Early Access games. I went against my own better judgement to buy this game two years ago. It was a mistake. I could have a 4 gram cartridge of THC vape for the cost of this game. If I had to make the decision between this game, and a delta 8 cartridge, today, I would choose the D8 cartridge.
Found it boring and overly tedious. Most of the class options are useless. The severe penalties don't justify playing them outside large groups of players.
no hate but from a game design perspective i like incorporating tools into crafting, as its an immersive and realistic feature. in real life survival-craft people typically are essentially sat over some kind of workstation with tools they use individually or compound on different materials. makes 100% sense and the only thing more immersive is things like knapping and entirely intuitive and non gui centered methods of crafting.
I don't mind it either, just having to drag the tool out from the toolbar etc is a little clunky for my taste. There are mods that change the crafting grid etc and it also seems on the road map that a lot of other things, like chopping wood will move away from the crafting grid to be more like Knapping or wood cutting. Curious to see how it goes myself.
4:23 I would LOVE if the "Immersive Wood chopping" and "Immersive Wood sawing" mods were added to the Vanilla Game ! It's make you craft this in a more realistic way, but a little longer, but still more cool and that go along with the core spirit of the game !
I haven't checked out that mod yet but I'll give it a look at some point indeed. I had someone else say they might be changing the crafting grid to something more immersive so perhaps we'll see some changes then!
Haha indeed. I like to think of it as a mind over matter thing, the tongs are the focus for your mind. You also make them with wood so odds are they would probably burst into flames too.
Such a well made video. It makes me so happy to see Vintage Story be spread to more people. Little tip, you don't have to hold to pan, that one took me a long time to discover. Don't know if it's your style, but I'd love to see a series of your gameplay, be it Let's Play, 100 Days, or whatever. Subcriber #90 🫡
It is indeed good and son of a bitch! the amount of time I've spent holding click on panning haha. Thanks for letting me know. Just tried it out. I do have a gaming channel over at SanguineRedGames here on TH-cam. Still finding myself and trying different things on the gaming channel though so your experience and the quality may vary haha.
4:30 programming something like that would actually be very easy (from my experience) You could set a very basic single line of code (using the axe for this example) and have it be a 0 or 1. If it's a 0, you dont have an axe in your inventory, if it's a 1, you have an axe. And the 1 value determines if you're able to craft it
Sounds fair enough. Would you also have to account for which axe it uses? Thus setting up an inventory priority list them accounting for if the axe breaks etc. I think it's a moot point anyway haha as I've been told they are doing away with the crafting grid potentially in the future.
@@SanguineRedTalks ahhh i suppose you're right haha, maybe it would have a check and each axe would have a value based on tier and type So copper would have a 2 and flint a 1, and it would use the axe with a value of 1 first. However then there's durability which would be a third set where it would see two ones in your inventory and see which has the lower durability value and use it first. I think it's doable However im not sure how i feel with the grid being removed, doing everything on different tables and stuff sounds much harder to remember 0-0
0:25 cut this part out dont put it or anyrhing remotely like it in another vid we know about the buttons douchetubers have told us about them literally millions of times engagement begging does not help you and just pisses people off anyway
Hello there. It has been generally agreed upon proven that asking greatly increases the chance of someone doing any three of those actions. If you want to blame anyone for it, blame TH-cam and the way it works. I am not personally a fan of it myself but it genuinely does help out. However I have already made the decision whilst working on my latest video to put it near the end of my videos as I personally feels it ruins the flow of the intro. So there's that if it helps you calm the fuck down. Also I ask, I do not beg.

They don't know what's in store for them, so they get creamed over and over in their first day. It's likely worse now with the bears... Those things need to be nerfed to be perfectly honest.
I actually fell inlove with this game back in 2022
The game looks amazing.
Thanks very much, glad you liked the video. Hopefully I can keep delivering!
could've sworn you were a popular review channel, i really liked your review, i will sub just for the sake of seeing more of them
Thanks very much. We all have to start somewhere but I wanted to launch out of the gate with good quality stuff.
Thanks for watching and subscribing, means a lot and help me keep putting the many, many hours in.
@@SanguineRedTalksBRO WHAT ONLY 171 SUBS?!?!!!!! IM SUBBING UR SO GOOD
@@Thanan548 Thanks very much!
You couldn't made a better presentation of this game ! GG !
Thanks very much, greatly appreciated.
Honestly this video got me to get the game. Don't usually click videos with low view count but was pleasantly surprised by the quality form this video. Good job!
That's great to hear!
We've all indeed got to start at 0 views, hopefully more will come along haha.
Thanks very much for watching.
I've played this game for about half a year now, introduced to it by friend. I love it. It's such a fantastic game, and I find that I prefer it over Minecraft.
Indeed my friend and I were playing Minecraft and got bored of it and discovered Vintage Story to enjoy instead.
The Timestorms, at least when I played, are way too unforgiving.
This is a game, mind you, where making a weapon for yourself takes about 3 hours of dedicated grinding.
Then you loose it and your lantern in a cave you were exploring after the 30th tainted drifter ganks you and suddenly that progress is gone, you go back to your base and then there is a Timestorm, it will take you 50 minutes to get a replacement DESPITE THE FACT YOU HAVE THE MATERIALS READY AND AT HAND
So have fun repeatedly dying and fighting off hordes of enemies with a stone knife
I turned on keep inventory on death very quickly as I don't have all the time in the world haha.
You can turn off timestorms, drifter attacks, and keep your inventory. Just saying. 😉
But if you don't like spending time doing things it's not your game. Some people love the rewarding feeling to accomplish things the hard way, some don't. That's okay. There are games for every taste.
new update is really cool looking
Looks fun, new sub! Great quality.
Thanks very much. Much appreciated and yes it's a pretty fun game, I do recommend.
Great video. I'm glad I found your channel
Thanks very much, and thanks for watching!
Only 45 subscribers? This was a really high quality review. I'll happily become #46.
Thanks very much. Very much appreciated!
Another sanguine video another banger
Thanks very much for watching :)
You can use loose Granite too for knifes. Just hold it in your hands when crouching :)
Yes indeed. I was informed recently. Never knew it was possible until after making the video haha.
Yes another good one
Thank you again!
I have played it for a while and make videos on the game. Awesome game.
Thanks for this video, I think I'll go check this game out. This is the one that showed me what I needed to see, appreciated.
That's awesome to hear. Enjoy the game and thanks for watching!
A reminder- for every complaint you have with this game, there's a mod for that.
Indeed. But I have to talk of the out of box experience as it were so those who may be interested get the full look. In hindsight yes I probably should've pointed that out better in the end but lesson learned.
nice cataclysm dark days ahead pfp
Any character model replacers? The default ones are a very "interesting" design choice.
@@eintorpid9101 Yep. For replacing the skin tones, as well as a few other kinds of models.
OFC PLAY IT
idk if you hear this often but, you have a great narrating voice
It's something I work hard and second guess all the time. It's nice to hear so thanks very much.
I actually already got it before this video came out
Great video.
Thanks for watching. Greatly appreciated.
It’s worth mentioning that granite can also be crafted into stone tools.
Indeed, I have been informed of my ignorance on that subject a few times now haha. One of those things I just never knew.
Vintage story is a Great game! And it recently got some big patch notes too!
It's indeed fun and yeah I hope they continue for many years to evolve the game.
Picked it up just a couple of days ago. It's okay. It's no Minecraft, and I dont think I'll put the hours into it to really do anything. It's just too tedious. It's just a video game at the end of the day and as someone who has hitchhiked, foraged, stayed in a tipi I built for a winter etc. eh I dont care for these video games that edge lord on about "realism"
We'll see, but judging by the devs, they know where they wanna take it, and for me its a game I coulda slept on for a bit longer.
It's barely playable if you play on default settings. Almost everyone adjusts the settings to be easier to play so they don't constantly die.
Oh yeah first thing my friend and I did was change some settings to help enjoy it more.
After some attempts, I put hunger to 50%, food spoiliage to 50% and a bit more of ore... 😅
the game should have a mode where stuff takes less time to make cause its just stupid how long shit takes to be made here its not fun its not a good gameplay
I will indeed concede that the time things take is too long, though I enjoy the game it is something I also dislike about it. Most peoples responses to queries about it or suggestions seem to be, just do something else while you wait, attitude which I also dislike. No mods seem to address this either.
Great video.
Thanks very much, always nice to hear haha.
It's indeed a long haul. Yes some towns and such would be great. Makes me wonder if there's mods for it.
@@SanguineRedTalks I'v seen some of the mods on youtube and they look pretty interesting. Haven't tried them though.
But it's always fun to watch people discovering it.
This game is pretty much hard rock tfc before that existed
There's things i love about it.. but things i hate about it.
Not a fan of the visuals.. too gritty i guess for my tastes..
But considering the fact that we have NO idea when Hytale will release.. it might be a good hold over until then.
I love what i've seen of the combat in Hytale.. the combat in this game looks.. finicky much like minecraft..
This just seems like the minecraft mod terrafirmacraft with the addition of temporal stuff. I would straight up just use this video as a guide to terrafirmacraft just because of how most of the mechanics are nearly identical.
Haven't played that mod before. Looking it up it seems the mod was made 2 years after Vintage Story so perhaps it's the other way around haha.
@@donkeybucks7436 Righty-o fair enough. That answers that question, thanks for looking it up haha, it was on my mental list of dive in deeper.
With the amount of time it takes to do anything, the only way I can recommend playing the game is multiplayer. I dont recommend playing singleplayer unless you're unemployed
Haha yeah. My friend and I started a world and it takes quite some time to do stuff even with 2 people.
Yes, the answer is yes. Roll credits.
Haha yes indeed.
So it's basically TerraFirmaCraft lol
so i havent played vintage story to start with. but this game seems like an incomplete version of the mod TerraFirmaCraft for minecraft. check it out if you like this
So it apparently started as a Minecraft mod called Vintage Craft, they moved to making their own engine and are making Vintage Story now. They were apparently inspired by TerraFirmaCraft indeed.
So it s basically TerraFirmaCraft, hm.
nice review! I
Thanks very much, glad you liked it!
18€ - MOST WORTH 18€ I´m not dissapointed .... WORTH 110%
Indeed it isn't very costly. Here in Australia it ends up being about $30 AUD, which is about 1/3 the cost of a new game on steam. Definitely worth it!
@SanguineRedTalks
Can i use an AUD mastercard to pay for it or should i use the alternative purchase websites for vintage craft?
@@boredom4me877 I bought Vintage Story with Paypal which was connected to my Mastercard so I'm not 100% sure about just using card.
You can get it on Humble Bundle Or Itch.io but it seems to cost a little more there.
Video too long, needs to be 1 second saying "yes". All it needs.
Jk of course, glad the game is getting more positive attention ^^
Indeed haha. Thanks for watching and yes I hope it gets all the attention, it's great.
But what about the game optimization?
Can i run it on a old intel-3 4-gigabyte ram, 8 gigabytes memeory computer?
If i leave it alone for 20 minutes will i find a hot laptop or will it go into some sort of eco mode.
That knowledge is a bit beyond what I do for my videos but if you're curious the minimum specs are on the Vintage Story website right here www.vintagestory.at/sysrequirements/
For the laptops honestly it would depend entirely on the laptop.
It's not Minecraft clone. It's directly Minecraft's Terrafirmacraft Modpack clone. Not bad... But nearly all of these mechanics are from TFC.
Better than Minecraft
so like terrafirmacraft made into a separate game?
The devs apparently started as Vintage Craft in Minecraft which was a mod similar to that. Now they've made their own engine/game and such.
That's fair enough, it's definitely not for everyone.
This is all minecraft dreamed to be but never achieved it
no hate but from a game design perspective i like incorporating tools into crafting, as its an immersive and realistic feature. in real life survival-craft people typically are essentially sat over some kind of workstation with tools they use individually or compound on different materials. makes 100% sense and the only thing more immersive is things like knapping and entirely intuitive and non gui centered methods of crafting.
11:55 I love early access games, got the tongs for handling the glowing hot metal, grab it with the other hand xD
15:50 is the actual answer to is it worth it, so if you are just curious for a tldr without a gameplay example, here's that
4:30 programming something like that would actually be very easy (from my experience)
You could set a very basic single line of code (using the axe for this example) and have it be a 0 or 1.
@@SanguineRedTalks ahhh i suppose you're right haha, maybe it would have a check and each axe would have a value based on tier and type
So copper would have a 2 and flint a 1, and it would use the axe with a value of 1 first. However then there's durability which would be a third set where it would see two ones in your inventory and see which has the lower durability value and use it first. I think it's doable
However im not sure how i feel with the grid being removed, doing everything on different tables and stuff sounds much harder to remember 0-0
0:25 cut this part out
dont put it or anyrhing remotely like it in another vid
we know about the buttons
douchetubers have told us about them literally millions of times
engagement begging does not help you and just pisses people off anyway
Hello there.
It has been generally agreed upon proven that asking greatly increases the chance of someone doing any three of those actions. If you want to blame anyone for it, blame TH-cam and the way it works.
I am not personally a fan of it myself but it genuinely does help out. However I have already made the decision whilst working on my latest video to put it near the end of my videos as I personally feels it ruins the flow of the intro. So there's that if it helps you calm the fuck down.
Also I ask, I do not beg.
