From the Film Australia Collection. Made by The Commonwealth Film Unit 1969. Directed by John Edwards. This episode looks at what causes of skids, how to correct them.
I almost didn't make 18 - had my license for TWO WEEKS, driving a Datsun 1200 sedan on an 80kph dirt road _at the limit,_ lost the rear...did a full 360 skid followed by a 180...ended up facing the driver following. It happened in slow motion - all I could think of was Mum, Dad and my Sister...and how sorry I was to have died in this foolish way. Great lesson!
Filmed at the old Police driver training centre, now HART rider training centre, at St Ives NSW. Looks like there'd been some recent bushfires when this was filmed.
Thanks NFSA! This is a great series, a real look at the old Australia. Looking forward to the next one. :)
Thanks Anthony. About 4 more to come in the series.

Excellent video. With any luck, episode 10 will be about doing burnouts in your Monaro or GT Falcon ;)
Rod's Pinball Videos as I remember the fat pizza terminology was a “three point turn”.

Ted Bullpit would be having heart palpitations at this sight - "Not the Kingswood!!!"

Skid Pan at St Ives NSW Police Driver Training Centre. Unmarked police cars, or rather NSW Police cars with markings and lights removed.
Thanks for the info Caleb
At 3.34 you can see police motorcyclists in the background being trained.
Yes noticed that.
Back in the days when we used to be capable of making cars
The problem is that that the demand for rwd sedans or even sedans isnt as big as it use to.
We still own an HK Holden and XY Ford.
HK Kingswood (light blue) and Belmont (darker blue).
Only way you'd get a HK to spin the wheels from a standing start
Add water or oil
It's called parralell parking. :)
Most Australian motorists don't know how to complete this......
