    These are simply superb series of videos. After driving for 15 years, I’m wondering why driving schools in my country don’t teach defensive driving techniques to all the new drivers. I found these videos very relevant to my country (India) as these videos show driving on left side of the road and the narration is in an accent which is easy to follow. I have promised myself I will make my kids watch all these videos when they get to legal age to drive. If anyone hasn’t watched “Defensive driving techniques” by NFSA films, please don’t miss.

    Groovy finger snapping tunes. If only everyone listened to these kinda of tunes the world would be safer for driving

    Shirt and tie, clean shaven. Well groomed and well spoken. Courteous and considerate.
    That was just 50 years ago. What will Australia be like 50 years hence?

    Good advice is good advice, although today they don't instruct you in feeding the wheel. Instead they tell you to hold it at 9 and 3 positions. Also, when overtaking, in addition to checking mirrors, also quickly check your blind spot.

    • @hpldm1937

      9-3 position is recommended by pro racers.

    Those 3 on the trees were rotten things to use once they wore out a bit. They often jammed. 1st to 2nd in particular required some skill, particularly uphill from a standstill. Floor transmissions are far better.

    I was learning to drive only 10 years after this was filmed, and I should have been shown some of these videos, might have been a safer driver. But at least I read Peter Wherrett's book on car control. All common sense stuff.

  • @stratfordbaby

    1:04 WRONG. Rolling action is dependent on SPEED, RADIUS and BANKING of the turn. That's why on higher speed roads they should be banked higher on the outside lane so that the rolling action of centrifugal force is reduced. I guess they didn't have banked roads in 1969 Australia but they did in Germany on the autobahn since the 1930s...

    • @brianocampo7981
      @brianocampo7981 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The video is not incorrect because the overall context of the statement relates to the car's own dynamics rather than the road. The examples given are on a very wide and flat road, so that different speeds and radii for one car can be shown at the same bend. A road's banking does influence the rolling action but is not innate to the car itself.
      The video does concern itself with physics but is more interested in actually operating the car. The average driver usually won't be given much information about whether a bend is banked, but can only look for the advisory speed and sharpness of the bend itself. So an 'average Joe' approach to driving is necessary for this video, whether the bend is banked or unbanked or sloping away from the turn.
