  • Episode 8 of this educational series reminds us that the road is there for sharing. No one user or type of vehicle is exempt from the requirement to take all precautions in order to avoid an accident when on the roads. Accident free driving for all vehicles sharing the road should be the aim of all persons, including pedestrians. Made by Film Australia 1973. Directed by Peter Johnson.

I remember seeing these as a kid in school in the 80's! Thanks very much for putting these up, lots of memories :)

Exceptionally scored to capture the fine music of the times. Unfortunately these days we seem to be smothered with Idol type formula.

You post them, we'll watch them. I wish I could say that I'm from Australia. But the rules for safety here in North America are similar, the only obvious difference is that we drive on the right side of the road, while you drive on the left side.

The Film Australia complex was based in Lindfield. Therefore the North Shore was a convenient location for many of their films. Other viewers have identified similar locations throughout the series, although some have also found locations in Queensland.

Hi Jason, yes we do have more driving / safety films in the collection. Also motorcycle safety which we will be uploading soon. Thanks for your comments.

I look forward to it. As important as these videos are, I also enjoy them as well. Hopefully, there are more safety videos you can come up with. Keep up the good work.

Don’t forget that many pedestrians these days are people with a disability and their families, caregivers or support workers.

Would love to know where these were filmed. I have a feeling Chatswood station was shot in the first minute of this video. In Episode 4 I noticed Archbold Road in Roseville was shown.

In the early 1970s on average, over 1000 _pedestrians_ alone were killed each year - which is just about the whole death toll these days.

I agree. I've seen drivers who think they're not required to share the road, they usually weave back and forth between lanes, causing accidents with other drivers and becoming a danger to themselves in the process. Is this the final video in this series or is there more to this?

Episode 8 of 9. This episode does feel like it might be a final wrap up but there is one more on freeway driving.

We need to have a conversation around making reversing out of driveways illegal.

Wonder where all the drivers and cars came from - the same people and vehicles right through the series. Some of the faces look familiar.

I've had pedestrians shoot into the road, and I've come this close to hitting them. Bloody near gave me a heart attack! Pedestrians need to watch what's in the road before they enter the roadway.
