Still lots of valuable instruction from this.
I wish even 10% of drivers drove as well these days.

Maneuvering those Holden and Ford tank's without power steering in the city was a challenge.

City driving looks tough in 1969 , it's a wonder anyone survived on the roads in that bustling metropolis 🤔

A lot less traffic then, but still had over 1034 killed on Victorian roads in 1970. I think that is at least ten times more likely to be killed driving a mile then.

Which city was that filmed in?
    My guess is Perth

    • @brianocampo7981

      It is Sydney throughout:
2:18 to 3:45 is most likely Victoria Avenue in Chatswood (totally changed beyond recognition nowadays)
3:46 to 4:11 I'm not sure, but looks like one of the streets again in Chatswood
4:12 to 4:15 is again Victoria Avenue in Chatswood
4:25 to 4:38 is the Cahill Expressway viewed from Mrs Macquaries Road
4:44 to 5:08 is St James Road in the city just after Queens Square
5:09 to 5:23 is a right turn from Elizabeth Street to Eddy Avenue, passing in front of Central Station
5:24 to 5:34 is the intersection of Park Street and Pitt Street in the city, heading towards Hyde Park (the only recognisable feature nowadays is the Criterion Pub)
5:41 to 6:11 is again Queens Square, this time entering Macquarie Street
6:12 to 6:47 is William Street heading towards Kings Cross. Driver eventually stops just before Crown Street.
6:48 to 7:17 is Pitt Street back in the city, heading north for Circular Quay, probably a bit north of Liverpool Street.
The rest of the footage is Elizabeth Street in different shots from the Goulburn Street carpark, where trains from Central Station go underneath and split to form the city loop.
Edit: 4:16 to 4:24 is yet again Victoria Avenue, but nothing in that clip remains nowadays

Nice. Surely the NFSA could upscale to at least 1080p or even 4k?

    • @NFSAFilms
      @NFSAFilms  3 ปีที่แล้ว +16

Hi Thomas. When the film eventually gets scanned again it will be at least 2K resolution. As a 16mm film original they don't always fair best at 4K. This copy is from an older telecine many years ago (pre HD).

pretty good tips BUT you should not use the handbrake in traffic, it just slows progress and needlessly wears out your handbrake mechanism.

Yes people do this, especially people who drive police cars and ambulances or (in the UK) people who sit their tests for Rospa and IAM Roadsmart. There is a whole host of 'commentary driving' videos on TH-cam for this demographic.
