    One thing that I want to include before anything is always make sure fluid levels appropriate first before doing any kind of transmission work or programming
    They periodically do come up with updates for transmissions and not all vehicles have a trans control module oh, some vehicles have the transmission control through the PCM so a PCM or TCM update May fix your shifting issue sometimes as well but very rarely will that fix it
    Adaptive shift strategy clear for a relearn or adaptive shift strategy disable - Alot of times fixes the issue

      I do have a question for you I bought a used 2019 with 100,000 miles on it and I experience a hard shift most of the time from 7 to 8 and then some weird wonky ones occasionally from 3 to 5 to 6 I was told by the dealer to just drive it normal and they did not go in there and clear the tables my question to you is when they have to clear those tables for me to have the transmission learn my driving style first or will it automatically adapt on its own because I’ve been driving it for about a month now the way I drive and I still have the same shifting problems

      On my Australian made SZ territory with the AWD 6R80, forscan has a section for both the PCM and TCM for delete the transmission adaptive shift strategy. Its a 2013 and has the TCM mounted under the passenger seat.
      Do you know what year the TCM was taken out of the lead frame on the 6R80?

    Forscan (with the free extended license!) allows you to complete a bunch of things, among them is resetting your adaptation for your ECU and TCU/TCMBiggest cost of entry is having or modifying an ODB2 adapter than can read the different CANBUS channels($20 and up). Once the TCU/TCM is reset, can be a little harsher on shifts but afterwards silky smooth and feels like new!

      You can actually pull fuse #5 - 7.5 amp red fuse then turn key to KOEO wait 10 sec. Then turn key off plug fuse back in to #5 slot turn key to KOEO wait 5 sec then start engine and the KAM will be reset - includes shift points and fuel curves.

      I've got a 2020gt and only thing I've really noticed is when at the drag strip going full throttle closer to end of strip, the odd time it'll feel like you lost all power for quick second. I thought trans maybe hot so let it sit for awhile then go again and it will do it still not everytime though, only thing I can think is I've got tune on my car with my bdx tuner but don't think they tuned the tcu so thought maybe the trans was wondering wtf was going on. I took forscan and cleared adaptive tables etc I'm going to do flush and fill as I'm at 55,000km and I just did the diff so figured I better do trans as well, hoping it'll work better this season as I'm getting new tune from different tuner that does the tcu as well and fresh flush/fill.

      if they made a standard trans vehicle I would have bought one but Ford does NOT make a standard trans truck anymore. took the truck to another dealer and they found the trans was not checked during the PDI inspection at delivery and did NOT top off the trans as required by the manufacturer and paid by Ford to do. they ended up added more than a quart and had to reset the adaptive memory. been driving the vehicle several days since and shifts like the F-150 King Ranch they loaned me for 5 days. you are very ignorant in your comments.

    Wow, didn’t know the transmission learned my driving style. I bought my truck new in 2019 and one of the things that impressed me most, was how smooth it was. It’s got about 32,000 on it now and at low speeds I would describe it as “ Clunky “. At high speed or when I’m towing it’s fine, but when I’m in town, sometimes it’s like it was about to shift up but I let off the gas and it takes a split second for it to catch up. It’s never been serviced anywhere but a dealership, but I do drive on many different types of terrain. Immediately after I bought it, I went to PA for 8 months and drove an hour on the highway to a job site and then drove off-road . Did that every day for quite awhile. It’s never done anything that caused me concern, but I did have the PCM reprogrammed for the cam phaser thing from Ford , but it’s not done anything weird.

    You can clear the adaptive learning tables using forscan as well. I can confirm that clearing them works as you describe. I also have a theory that (maybe) people who still have issues after clearing have multiple drivers....ie, mom babies it around town and son floors it when he's driving. Just a thought .

    Bought my 2020 Raptor new, Not a fan of the 10 speed, it likes to hunt gears way to often. Mid gears and the shift to 5th as others have noted can be rough at times. Lots of threads on the Raptor forums regarding this subject. Thanks for the information on this issue, I will definitely bring this up the next time I visit the dealer.

    I've spent about 60 years rebuilding 20k transmissions. This is the only guy I've found on utube that understands what's going on. Adaptive learn memory started with the Chrysler 604 trans in 1989. Drove us nuts on the first few. I keep telling people it's a great trans. Has software issues but if the same person drives it they usually run for a long time. For my retirement job a drove a Ford van 10 speed 3.5 motor. When I finally quit the motor and trans worked perfect at 360k miles. Their software will be continuously refined and the trans will get even better. Listen to what he's saying.

    This is why i talk to my tuner for my 6L80e. I have him tune the points after adaptive learning has understood how i drive. since i have 2 drive modes. i use the sport mode for a firmer shift point, but it allows him to fine tune it for maximum performance shifting without killing anything.

      the biggest problems I have seen with that series trans is the one-way clutch in the forward drum will flip and the reverse reaction drum which cracks when you shift between drive and reverse without stopping first. otherwise great!

    Yes this is the issue I have especially at low speeds. I’m still waiting for mine to get back from the dealership. I’m just grateful the dealership and the guy I talk to really works with me.

    This adaptation stuff is unbelievable, I bought a 2015 Camry with 90K last year with the U760E 6 speed. That trans downshifted at the slightest input and shifted hard when cold. After doing a drain and fill it shifts smoother and after a year the adaptation has finally learned my chill driving style. On the other hand my dad has a 2018 f150 ecoboost, its been shifting like it's confused ever since it was new. To be honest, like you said its got a lot to do with adaptation and it's most likely the way it's driven. My dad and most people I know get on and off the gas a lot and that's probably what has trans confused.

    I work as a medic on ambulances with these transmissions on them, and I promise you that the only vehicles that are beaten and spanked harder than ambulances are yellow cabs in NYC. I'm absolutely amazed at how robust these transmissions are. It's really remarkable how few problems we've had with them.

      What ambulance uses a 150 platform? 10R80 transmissions are not used in 250 and up vehicles, so how are you working on them?

      I know superduty’s have 10 speeds, but they aren’t 10R80’s, which is what this video is about. Tundra’s have 10 speeds too, but we aren’t talking about those either. Superduty’s have 10R140’s. A completely different transmission, with it’s own set of troubles.

    Real talk bro, I always say to my clients for even older cars, when you buy a car from a old person, take your time break in the transmission to your driving style. Which is if you don't have the means to clear the drive memory start driving slow and gradually increase your speed each day. I recommend this even for the engines. Real advise bro bless. Old school wisdom.

    I have the 10R80 in my 20 F150 3.5. From new. I have some of these issues. I keep wondering if the thing is going to break or not. I drive hard and aggressive most of the time. But on the local roads that are like 45mph, my biggest complaint is hunting in those mid gears and the shift to 5th. Sometimes it hits hard and sometimes its ok. My thinking is that this thing shouldn't be hitting hard unless under a heavy load, 90% + throttle. Obviously, the tables aren't written like that, or there is just a legit issue within the trans. It's not all the time...I absolutely hate taking any of my vehicles into the dealer for service. Most of the time, you get it back that the problem can't be duplicated. It would be nice if the servicing tech would call the customer and ask for more detail. So dang irritating to get that response and yet it still does it. Makes you wonder what the warranty is for...

      Leave a detailed note inside the vehicle for the technician with your phone number on it saying it's okay for him to call you because a lot of facilities don't want the technician calling the customer

      Great idea. I like small town dealerships they seem not to care if the customers talk directly to the techs it helps them know what the vehicle is there for. And be brutally honest. They will know if your not. Lol.

      That's weird how so many people have way different experiences. I have a 2020 with the 3.5 as well and the trans is perfect. No issues. Sometimes it can act a little goofy in certain situations (mainly in heavy traffic with constant stop and go) but other than that I have no complaints with the transmission

    Thank you for the information. I have a hard downshift whenever I push my pedal to go up hill, pass vehicles, or anything to make it down shift from overdrive. All other shifts are smooth.

    I just had this. A guy up the street is a truck driver (gone a lot) and stopped in with his wife's truck worried that the transmission was going out on her. I told him the same thing, that it sounds like it has adapted to her and not him. I told him he could take it to Bill or Steve and have it flashed but when you come back from the road it will probably do the same thing. I know why they did it (and they all do it not just Ford) but IMO its a super dumb move on their part because of cases like this. We laughed about it as we where leaning against my 1958 Fairlane, when the 3rd pedal told it how to shift.

    I’m experiencing these types of issues on my 2020 Explorer ST, I did purchase it used so it makes sense what you said about the previous owners driving habits.     This is exactly correct my NEW Ranger was a bit erratic at the beginning but I dove it easy through the breaking in period and now with 1300 miles it is very smooth.

      Good to hear. How it running now being 7 months later and how many miles on it?
      I have a 2020 ranger with 20k miles... It has 4 miles on it when I bought it... Till this day I can be easy on the gas and it still fills like a cvt.. barely any rpm drop and smooth shifts. My favorite is when I'm 3/8 or so throttle and it goes 1, 2, 4, 6, 7 and so on. Smoothest combo I've found yet. Loving the 10r80 and the 2.3L in the ranger

    When i learnt to drive I was taught to listen to the revs to change gear.. nowadays it comes up on the console to tell you when to change gear.. also to many people don't put it in neutral and put the handbrake on when stuck in traffic.. keeping it in gear with foot on the clutch is a sure way to wear it out over time.

      I'm guessing you might be in the UK, like me. I too always select neutral and put the handbrake on in traffic. However, learners are now taught to stay in 1st gear, with their foot on the brake, at traffic halts.

      American here. I put my car in neutral when at a stop light. I don’t want wear out my throw out bearing. I also stay in gear when coming to a complete stop till about 1500 rpm for engine braking assist. However when I had my motorcycle I’d stay in first gear at a light till the car behind me came to a complete stop incase I needed to move to avoid getting hit.

    i had a few drivers complain that the shift patterns were wonky first thing every start of there shif 2004 -06 f 550 with i believe had the 4r100 trans in em ! found the cigerette lighter fuse was also the KAM fuse for the pcm

    I followed your advice when I bought my new f150 , it now has 8000 km in the odometer , and no issues at all , i never feel the shifts , but you must wait for it to get warm when you start it until the rpm falls near 500

    Purchased a used 18 3.5 and have the issues you just described. Supposedly they reset the learn strategy but I was never told to be easy on it, I was told to drive it like I normally would.

      thanks for the comment. if they did not check the fluid level, they need to. that can cause an awful lot of problems as any fluid level below the full mark WILL damage the trans more than an overfill.

    Great Video! in addition, Even before they had adaptive strategy I never found another identical make and model vehicle that drove just like mine and it makes sense while 2 identical vehicles look the same and have the same powertrain , they still are 2 different machines at the end of the day.

    Yeah I’m calling nonsense on this. Sure you can clear adaptive and it learn easy throttle driving..
    Transmissions with issues will show their heads once a trailer is behind the truck or when “sprinted” driving is required.
    These transmissions are notorious for valve body issues

    When I ordered my Transit, the 10R80 option had just been added. As far as I could find, there is a running class action in the USA against ford over the transmission in F150's.
    Did my homework, my Transit comes from the factory in Turkey (supplies the British, EU and AU market) no similar cases or reliability issues with 'our' transits running the auto.
    I even went the extra mile to ask Ford AU about it and affirm their obligations under consumer law, which they did.
    I've had one or two grumbles from the auto in 1800km. As long as I select the correct driving mode for the conditions, I find it rolls the dice between 10 speeds reliably with the right throttle response.

    Glad I found this video, thanks for the info. I bought a new 2021 Ford Explorer and was very disappointed with the jerky transmission. I now have 5000 miles on the odometer and it's much smoother. I really thought I'd get rid of this car as soon as I could but now that the transmission is smoother, I plan to keep it.

    I have a 2018 F-150 5.0 and 10 speed transmission. I drive in all kinds of environments and traffic situations so the adaptive learning needs to be reset every once in a while. I don't need a scan tool to reset the trans, I just download any software updates if there are any and go into settings and clear the pcm or adaptive learning and let it start all over. Its perfect!

    I have a 2018 F150 3.5EB, 10-speed that I bought new. I hate that transmission. In normal model it skips gears and will be in 7th gear by 35 mph and bogging the motor. It takes forever to shift down and the turbos to spin up. I have experienced the often reported problem where you step on the throttle to accelerate (I was on a freeway in Dallas) and the truck literally coasts along without gaining any speed for 3 to 4 seconds and then has violent downshift that feels like you were rear-ended by someone behind you. It hits hard enough to break the tires loose and activate traction control. I have had the dealer look at it multiple times. They say that they have re-flashed the transmission and reset the adaptive learning. The truck is usually driven very slow and easy, but I do tow a 7500 lb. trailer quite often. It seems to act normal in tow/haul mode (when not towing), but it doesn't shift up and keeps the engine in a lower than desired gear which kills gas mileage.

    Thanks, Boss- My 2018 F150, (original owner) 80k miles, 3,000 miles ago it started shifting strangely, missing, lurching, stalling, and all the above. It finally displayed the Wrench light so I disconnected the battery for 15 mins. That seemed to help a lot, probably a 60% improvement. Took it to my local Ford dealer, they hooked it up to the diagnostic and said gears 7 and 10 were shot- needs a new Transmission. My questions are: It shifted poorly in the lower gears, not necessarily 7 and 10. Also, why would disconnecting the batter have a positive effect on a transmission that's crapping the bed? They are asking Ford for $ assistance so we'll see. The price I'm looking at is $8,000 for a replacement

    Over time, the adaptive learning process will fully update transmission operation. Additionally, whenever the battery is disconnected or a new battery installed, the strategy must be relearned.

I’m a retired high performance aircraft mechanic taking all the courses I can to learn these computers just so I can work on my own cars.       you better have the trans checked to see if the fluid level is correct and have the adaptive memory reset. that's probably what is wrong as the tech who got paid to do the PDI probably did not do it.

    Fords Falcons in Australia had "KAM" (keep alive memory) in the PCM that learned from throttle imput and shift points/sharpness since the 90s.
    Forscan on a laptop with a USB to ODDII cable with HS/MS switch built in can take care of the IDS job for the DIYer.
    When did IDS take plcae of WDS? Or was WDS only in Australia?

    I have never been crazy about drive by wire for the fact that sometimes the transmission is not in a low enough gear when cornering or accelerating from a low speed where you are not quite stopped. I find the drive by wire tends to upshift early sometimes feels like back in the day before drive by wire ; shift stacking kind of like an out of an adjustment Throttle Cable or a throttle cable not connected. For example, I miss the days of old, I like being able to tweak the cable so that instead of upshifting from 1 to 2nd at 11mph with 25% throttle, I could adjust an upshift from 1 to 2 at 17 mph with the same 25% throttle just to get the the rpms up just a little more to be in a decent power band

      I like my 2021 f150 but hate drive by wire with a passion. You go a few feet it's already in 3rd gear, then you step on it to go, it falls on its face for a lil bit then it goes. Something with supposedly 325 hp and 400 ft pound of torque , the acceleration should be instant. If there is ever a cable conversion for this, I want it.! I miss the good ole days.

      @JP-uu2rw Try to turn on tow mode and drive it that way.. dropping gears faster, keep up the rev, later upshifts, higher line pressure to lock up the torque converter sooner and more then normal equals for a bit more snappy, and take traction control off.. traction on also delay power to the wheel as a pre-emptive no spin and the truck will feel like a lazy donkey sluggish take off

    I had a good conversation with a Trans software guy. He said that the software is not designed to figure out the driver, it is designed to protect the Trans from the driver. Shift completion time is the goal of software as that achieves a comfortable shift and most minimal wear and fluid . Age of fluid will affect shift time and fluid changes without adaptive reset will cause shift issues temporarily. Transition from trailering and back to no trailer will cause a very short learning period. He said people that fuss with throttle cause software developer problems as the data is irregular like when you unconsciously ease on throttle to anticipate a shift. He said the only driver learning was the part of software that tries to stop excessive shifting if you are driving on a road with lots of bends where you accelerate, get off throttle for turn and then back on throttle. The software senses the pattern and holds lower gear when you reduce throttle when it would otherwise consult shift lookup table and upshift. He specifically said it does not learn drivers but it does try to compensate for driver errors. There are adaptation range blocks that can lead to a vehicle having shift issues when the software has no experience in a range. He stressed that adaptive reset needed a test drive with all gear shifts with low, medium, and high moderate throttle so the shift completion time learn would be as complete as possible.

    I just bought a brand new 21 F-150 3.3 10 speed and shifted somewhat harsher than I'm used to while it's brand new and only had 18 miles on it I have found a video about running the truck in eco mode to settle down the shifting and it helped and has been fine ever since

    I have a 2018 Ford F-150 Platinum And the transmission Started to Slip At 84,000 miles. I brought the car used with 30,000 miles The previous owner maintained it Canada. When I purchased it, I purchased it with a warranty. I also had the Cam phasers. Serviced Per the Maintenance bulletin. I've always. Had my vehicle maintained at the dealership. When my vehicle is put in service for oil change a month ago, I would think that the mechanic would also check the transmission fluid, But I was wrong to Assume. When this problem started to occur, I got my car manual and checked it myself and it was bone dry.

    My F150 has the 10R80 I feel like it up shifts to soon in slow stop and go like in a neighborhood but when I have a trailer behind me shifts perfectly

    I have a f150. 2019 purchased new and its 2 months past warranty and it requires a transmission rebuild @ 85000km (canada).
    Only drive it for 20000 km per year in Eco.
    I wonder how many people have had problems this bad with their 10 speed transmission.
    We looked into other vehicles and most fords and GMs have this transmission.

    My 2018 had/has several issues. It would jerk and lunge especially slowing down to a stop and other times i had to put it to the floor to go anywhere. I had skip shifting eliminated that helped alot. Next issue was and still is 46k miles later is my notorious 6th gear clunk. The computer was reset to relearn my driving habits which are heavy footed. It still didnt fix the issue. Took it back next oil change and a tech drove it. He said he felt it but the conputer claims its fine. I called BS on him and his reply was drive it till it blows up. Pisses me off as they want it to go out of warranty and stick me with a costly bill. Too bad i have an extended warranty that'll cover it. In the meantime 3 visits later and my 10r80 is still clunking in 6th gear, awesome.

      this is a brand new 2020 ford super crew with 6,000 miles on it, not some antique. this is my 9th ranger and I still have my 2005 as it was the last std trans model made. I have never had a breakdown on any of them and drove over 1,000,000 miles in them, not including any of my F-250s. I would have liked at least ONE common sense reply to my comments but morons now are too stupid to offer anything but stupid comments.

    Good information. Had a 2018 F150 and when I first got it it when it was in 3 gear it lured forward and it was dangerous. It only happened once but scary.

    I got an engine and trans tune on my 10r80 and 3.5 eb and it shifts butter smooth and picks a gear and goes man! Before it was okay but after it's perfect. I prefer the 10 speed over my old 6 speed truck because of rpm and powerband. It also cruises nice with the 4 overdrive gears.

    Thanks for the info , I have a 2020 expedition limited and we purchased brand new , and we’ve had these issues as well hard shifting around 5th gear and weird shuttering in low gears 1-3 it’s been in several times first time they did the clearing and explained the adaptive learning we drove around for a month and problem still continued . Transmission tech confirmed the he’d shifting so the replaced a part within the transmission , got it back drove around for a couple months still having the same issue took in again to a different ford dealer for a 2nd opinion , they determined there was a bad gear so they had for a week pulled apart replaced the gear have had for about a month now and problem is still there . So contacted ford motors and asked about lemon this car because the problem hasn’t been fixed and they accepted . Just sent all documents they needed now waiting for Ford to work up a deal and get back to us . We love the car we paid $85,000 for it but the transmission situation just doesn’t seem right . So curious to see what Ford comes back with .

    My parents have a 2017 Jeep Cherokee Sport with the 9 speed. On flat land it's great (trans is built by Zf, it has four! overdrive gears), but on mountainous terrain, it gets really annoying with it's shifting, to where I just put it in manual mode. Going up a hill, it'll shift down to 4th, and without much throttle input, it'll accelerate up the hill, but then it'll shift back into 5th and start losing speed, and immediately shift back into 4th. So I just put it in manual mode, and select up to 4th gear.
    Also, another thing about this transmission, is if you have it in cruise control, and you go downhill, it downshifts to maintain speed, but it keeps downshifting until the RPM is over 4000, and now your starting to accelerate.
    It's totally different compared to the four speed in my '06 F-150. Turn off OD in the mountains, rarely do I put it in second going up a steep hill, and going downhill, I'll use engine braking from 3rd, 2nd (40 and below) and even 1st (if I'm going under 20) to avoid constant use of the brakes.

    bought a 2019 ford ranger as a certified preowned with 22k miles on it. the transmission has always been odd. some days it's just a thing of beauty, and i can really feel the engine putting the power down exactly how i'd like it to. other days i'm just left asking what in the world it's doing. clunkiness and such. so here's my question: is resetting the adaptive learning on the transmission a part of the Ford Used Vehicle Certification program? If it isn't, then maybe it should be. Flash that transmission while the customer is doing paperwork (that way test drives don't screw it up).

    its doing it on the mustangs as well! Mine is acting crazy!!!!!!!!! random slip in low gears. violent shift between 9th and 10th gear especially the kickdown. sometimes it wont even kickdown unless I force it.

    I will agree, however if clearing the adaptives doesnt fix it, the CDF clutches are a known failure. Theres a bushing thats moving in the CDF drum thats causing a fluid restriction to those clutch apply pistons. The adaptives at that point are trying to learn a moving target. I've taken a few apart where the D/F clutches were smoked BLACK because of this. Just something to keep in mind. In my opinion, the 10R80's are the next 6F35's, where they are getting overhauled often and at lower mileage.

      I've seen Ford transits transmission going out around 100k, with transmission shutter and vibration maybe transmission flushes would make them last longer.

    I bought a 2019 Ford F150 new and I am the only person driving the truck. It shifts harshly and shudders sometimes especially upshifting to 8th. The current Ford solution to the problem involves rebuilding the valve body. This tells me obviously that the problem is not just software related.

    I live in Mexico. I own the ford ranger 2.2 diesel 4x4 manual transmission (20,000 miles) (Argentina built) , suddenly from one week to another the reverse did not engage, the same with 1st, 3rd and 5th speed, apparently the clutch is not the problem. the people at Ford dealership and mentioned that is needed to change the gear stick and cables, but they do not guarantee that the problem will be solved. that charge $1,800 usd for that, if that didn’t solve the problem they have to dismantle the transmission and charge $1,900 usd just for dismantle and check the transmission, I cannot afford that so I want to know what could be your recommendation,
    1) Spend 1800 usd for gear stick and cables and cables replacement, or 2) try to find another auto shop who can dismantle and check the transmission, or 3) sell the truck as it, broken, just 2nd, 4th and 6th gear works.

    Just called Ford Lincoln had my transmission rebuilt by Hicksville Ford the mechanic told me the problem started 2019 10 speeds computer resets couldn’t fix this problem. That’s the mechanic exact words.

    I have a 2019 F150 5.0 I bought brand new, and now has 22,000 miles. My 10spd transmission shifts erratically and lurches at times. It also makes a whining sound at low speeds.

    I'm having that problem now, I bought it new but somebody put 77 miles on it before I started driving it, and I do drive it a little hard every once in a while, but I don't Dogg it every time I drive. I have 20k miles on it and the dealer said they couldn't get it to duplicate the problem, but If It gets worse bring it in and leave it overnight. Because I noticed the problem when I first take off.

    With my Vic I don't have any of that fancy learning computer. I do have the typical spooling start that I have learned how to control. Surprised my friend though when he drove it the first time and the car wanted to lurch forward from a dead stop. Now he doesn't razz me for slowly and gently accelerating at stops.

      Yeah on mine I have bumped up the line pressure 15% so it shifts quite a bit firmer but I'm actually going to put a shift kit in my vehicle

    Well, that sucks! I’m retired and we’re down to one vehicle. Wife drives it to work 3 days a week. I think we drive similar cause my hot rodding days are gone, but there’s times when it gears down so hard I think the Transmission will explode.
    Dealer says a similar story. Not liking the hard shifting. Dealer says I’m old school and not familiar with 10 speeds WTH, how about not having a shifting issue? They lie cause it costs millions to fix, so they come up with a B/S story. I worked at 4 jobs, 3 dealerships and one warehouse in my 46 years of working. Never heard of a transmission that shifts hard as mine and I’m supposed to suck it up! Not happy, might have to sell because if this so called new transmission that learns how you drive..it’s B/S

    I think 10 speed automatics are overkill in the first place. There was someone that did a test, I cant remember who, but it was a very detail test between an 8 speed automatic and a 10 speed automatic. the results in every test they performed were nearly identical. I just think with more gears comes more problems, but I'm not a certified mechanic or anything so what do I know...

      @@maxwellkeeling3781 from my understanding one of the main reasons that ford and gm co-designed a 10 speed automatic was for better fuel efficiency reasons. But test have shown it really didnt improve fuel efficiency at all over an 8 speed automatic. I think this is also one of the main reasons why every other major auto manufacturer just went with 8 speeds automatics instead of 10 speeds.

    I'm wondering if Ford is doing anything different with these transmissions lately. I'm gonna find out. Due to the fact my 2020 F150 is less than 3 years old, Ford Motor Company has authorized the replacement of the complete transmission assembly due to a severe 1-2 slip, as well as erratic shifting. Dealer said Ford doesn't screw around in situations like this. They send out a whole new unit, and that's that. Hoping this is a one off thing, and there's no major issues in the future.

    Even on 6F15, the car "knows" what kind of incline I'll slow down for, and it will downshift-brake for me. This is not a feature I would have ordered, but it saves fuel, and keeps the car more stable at various speeds. I *almost* don't miss the manual gearbox and clutch..

    This is soooo true. I had my CVT replaced in my Subaru and it drove like CRAP afterwards. I reset the whole car (using a scan tool) and it was like it was brand new all over again and the transmission worked correctly.

    My 2017 Fusion started shifting weird a few months after I bought it used. The problem quickly went away but after about a year of owning it it will shift rough maybe once every 2 months and I cannot artificially recreate the problem. But I live in Idaho and the terrain is inconsistent. I do some city driving, some freeway driving, and some windy mountain road driving with inconsistent turns and road grade changes.

    Why would disabling the adaptive learning feature cause the transmission not to last as long? That makes no sense. I just watched another video of a guy that is having same bogging feeling I have been having. He said Ford tech said he could reset the tables or disable them all together and Transmission will function lime Ford recommends.

    from P to R. And R to P. it’s l really loud grind. Using paddle shifting it takes 2 seconds to shift. Also when stopping on red from high gear it puts 1” gear to fast and feels grinding clicking

    I guess I got lucky. Purchased an F-150 with 73K on the clock and have no shifting or acceleration issues. I have a very light right foot (because I’m cheap and want my vehicles to last forever). Judging from the truck’s maintenance records, the previous owner must have had a similar philosophy!

      Here in Canada I purchased brand new a very rare 2013 Ford Focus hatchback. What makes my car so rare is that it has three pedals on the floor and “manual adaptive strategy.” Eight years later, no problems and just routine maintenance

      @@chrispop99 I'm a car person, not a truck person. I may actually need a truck perhaps once every five years, I rent one from U Haul or Enterprise for a couple of days. Otherwise can't stand driving a truck.
      When I heard the Focus was being discontinued in 2018, I tried to order a new Focus hatch stickshift, but was too late. Not sure what to do in a few more years when my Focus is ready for retirement.
      Mazda 3? Civic? Corolla Hatch? Maybe there will be more choices in 3-4 years

    I went to the dealer because our purchased new 2021 expedition was stuttering and lurching at 20-30mph. The dealer said no problem found yet cleared the adaptive tables anyway. Now shifting is way worse. It is sluggish, I've lost power on acceleration completely while going up a hill (gas pedal went to the floor with 0 rev), I've had the transmission not engage and engine just revs. This is now a safety issue. I've been a Ford customer all of my life and this has been a very frustrating experience. Ford needs to do better.

    do you think if i get a New TCM it can fix that problem?? --,my 2020 GT Mustang gears get confuse a lil between 2-3 gear all other gears Work Fine! i see a lot of Videos where New mustang owner Driving fast or bleeding the brakes. i bought it with 7000 miles PP1, only has 10,000 now. What should i do? i Love this Car, Its Beautiful Metalic Grey, Black Rims. What should i do? Should i make them reset the adaptive learning or soft wear..i Don't know....

    My 2019 5.0/ 10 speed suddenly started crapping the bed at 46K. I had to call 5 different dealerships before I found one that would work on the transmission.
    They replaced the valve body but it actually made it worse and after 3 weeks I called to get the latest update: their only transmission guy had quit that morning.
    The service guy told me he didn't really know what to tell me.....he didn't have anyone to work on it.
    I had to find another dealer and it'll be another 2 weeks before they can look at it.
    Mine only has issues when it's cold. (1st thing in the morning and after it's been sitting in the parking lot all day at work)
    It shifts into 2nd so hard it barks the 35" KO2s then stumbles for about 3-4 seconds at 40mph shift point. After the trucks been about 1/2 mile it shifts great....

    What you say to a degree holds true on even older automatic transmissions my Uncle drives easy 1st time he flored the truck blew the transmission on the 1-2 shift trying to show me that the truck was quick

    I bought mine new and it's been constantly hunting for gears since I bought it. It's just sloppy. I'm at 40,000 miles and it hasn't changed. It's not just Ford though I've had the same issues with my new Toyota.

    Does the 10r140 have the same strategy information. My 2021 powerstroke does weird shifts sometimes I assumed it’s just the difference from the 6r140 but it only has 2500 miles And my test drives were not easy. I drive it like I stole it. Sorta Would a reset and easy driving help it also

    Even though this is one of your older videos, I can see why I like your videos. The straight scoop. I may need to reset the adaptive learning on my Ranger soon, but the main question would be do you see any reason not to buy the fords with the 10 speed trans?

    I have a 2019 5.0 Premium PP1, and I noticed there is delayed engagement when I change the transmission shift lever into DRIVE.
    Has anyone run into the same problem and how they fix it?

    Most of this just sounds like normal characteristics of the transmission. 10R80's have always had awkward shifts, I find that in normal or eco mode it skips gears and shifts quite smoothly. At the end of the day if it goes into every gear no problem I don't see any reason to be concerned. 10 gears is a lot for the computer to manage on top of adaptive learning and different driving conditions which makes things even more complicated. Especially if multiple people are driving the vehicle in different ways.

      Are you kidding, 10 gears is too much for a computer to manage? My ZF8 speed in RAM truck is buttery smooth. No jerking's or clunking ever. 9 speed in my wife's Cadillac XT6 is also perfect. I guess the 10 speed just over whelms that computer. This whole learning thing is just an excuse for a poor transmission. If a $60,000 vehicle does not shift properly upon delivery, there is something wrong with it. If it really is a transmission that learns how the driver functions, then what happens when another person drives it? Does it need to take 5,000 miles again to learn how the other person drives? Give me a non-learning transmission any day. I believe Ford has a real looser here and they know it.

    Most of my shifting issues with the 10 speed in my F250 went away with the trans relearn. It still however surges hard when going from park to drive on occasion (regardless if truck is or isn't warmed up, parked on the flat) and still once in a blue will shift weird/hard. Never had any of these issues on my F150 with the 10 speed though. F150 was brand new, F250 had 4k miles when I bought it.

      Ford says thats a torque converter filling problem when hard shift from park to drive
      Idk they just have so many issues with the 10speed
