    Please do a video on large model print supports best practices and lowering peel forces for really large prints like where to place holes, how large of holes, support setting specifics for really large prints… I don’t see any videos that focus on model prep and supports on heavier larger models.

    I went from using the first Anycubic Photon to the Phrozen Sonic Mega 8K and wow it sure is A LOT more work. With the Anycubic I dialed it in after a couple of prints and I became a print factory. I have a 55 Gal storage container with miniatures I still need to paint.
    However, with the Phrozen I was not prepared. The bigger the model the much longer the print time is, more resin goes towards supports, more isopropyl alcohol you need and it's a lot messier. The trial and error is what killed me. One of my first prints was estimated to take 32hrs and after 12hrs I noticed the print failed... cleaning and trying again is part of the experience, but the time and resin I used... it hurts lol. Managed to get 2 big sized prints, but barely.
    Part of me regrets going this big but I think once I get it dialed in it'll be better.

    I mostly print tabletop miniatures and terrain. I stepped up from my Anycubic Mono SE to the new Elegoo Saturn2. Now I can print double the amount of minis at once and only need to clean everything one time. Plus now I can print in 8K. When I do my prints overnight I can make them extra crisp and give them the whole night. :)

    I currently have the Mars 2 and would LOVE to upgrade to that Saturn (which I can fit in my current space, unlike the Jupiter) but I will likely roll with the Mars for a while longer since I haven't even had it a year. I created a throne for the NECA Phantom action figure in TinkerCad (came out pretty awesome if I do say so myself) and printing it in one piece on the Mars worked JUST BARELY. I'm talking about less than 3 mm of vertical build volume to spare. And that was with making the supports on bottom VERY short. So, it would have been great to have the extra height of the Saturn so it wasn't so tight.
    Love the channel, it's my go to source for resin printing videos. Never disappointed!

    Yep. resin printers need a LOT of room to use effectively. I have a fairly small room with 2 FDM printers and a small resin printer.
    When I'm doing resin prints I'm short on space and often take things outside to clean up.
    I'm hoping to get a Saturn 2 in a few months but I know it's going to have to live in the garage, my little workshop just won't cut it.

    When I ordered my Jupiter, I jumped through a *lot* of hoops to make sure I had room for it. And the printer fit great into my space! But I didn't factor in room for clean and post-cure. THAT was a problem. I'm slowly building a dedicated wash station for it, but I haven't finished it yet, so I've still only done one print on my beast of a printer. IMHO, the Saturn 2 is kind of the ideal resin printer. Even though the Mars 3 is a little faster, I don't feel like the speed difference is that big, but the size difference really is. It's big, but works great with the largest Mercury wash & cure, and having those dedicated machines makes a bigger difference than it seems like it should. BTW, did you get the XTR Wham Bam plate for your Jupiter? I put one on mine, but I haven't printed with it since I did!

    I'm looking into potentially trying to buy a Saturn or other mid-size resin printers, I have found that while I can print in multiple pieces it can become a pain if things aren't pre-sliced that way, requiring reworking of the STL into something that can fit onto my Mars 2 platform and has connectors for the individual parts to sit flush and well aligned together.

      How have you been liking your saturn 2? I've been trying to get mine calibrated for resin & leveled correctly, but It's been a bit of a jump for my coming for the mars 2; lots of fails between setup and support related mistakes.
      I guess specifically, how was your bed leveling experiences? How loose do you let the calibration card be? Kind of got me when I did mine: followed the instructions on the bed leveling card, and assumed I didn't need to raise the bed up a tad to give it that wiggle room because of the thicker card stock. Lo & behold, failed print, nothing on the bed. Turns out the digital manual does in fact tell you to raise it up so you can wiggle the card around. So I did it until I could just barely move it back and forth (usually being able to pull it out is easier than pushing it back in), and then after that I got basic bed adhesion and success on some smaller prints.

    • @briangoldberg8242
      @briangoldberg8242 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@64bitcrafts It sounds like you’ve figured out the bed leveling. I raise the build plate enough that there is a little tension, but it is easy to slide the leveling card. Are you printing directly on the print bed, or are you using rafts? I put almost everything on a raft. If the raft doesn’t stick to the build plate, you need to re-level. If the raft sticks but the rest falls in the resin vat, then you need to change your raft settings. Try medium or heavy supports, and add a few more in critical areas than the auto support places. I hope this was helpful. It’s a great printer and can produce amazing results. Good luck!

  • @64bitcrafts
    @64bitcrafts 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I've just been trying the first few prints from my new Saturn 2, and it feels like such a different beast from my original experience with the Mars 2. It's not even a matter of the cleanup or anything (I got all that on lock), but the calibration/bed adhesion is giving me such problems. I assume there's just more suction forces than I'm used to, so I can't just make solid rafts or otherwise have to be careful (specifically, support rafts have been peeling partially off the bed. Not all of them result in failed prints or obvious deformations, so I assume it's happening before the main model gets printed). But I'm certainly not used to it yet, and I'm wasting a lot of resin on what I assumed would be the same resin settings (given that I've already calibrated it for the Mars 2, a printer of the same brand).
    Still looking for tips, if anyone who reads has any I'd be much obliged!

    • @64bitcrafts
      @64bitcrafts 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@briangoldberg8242 Yup. I'll probably lower it down a bit more. I thought I already did so, but I think it's still higher than 40 mm/s.
      [takes a look at lychee right quick]
      Woah. Actually, I realized I'm missing out on a lot regarding lift/retract speed. I noticed that the machine was doing a two stage speed thing, but I didn't realize there's a special settings toggle for it (TSMC) in the Lychee resin profile, and you can adjust both stage 1 and 2 speeds. I had just copied my settings for the resin on Mars 2, so I missed out on all of that. Glad I pulled up the default profile to compare lift speeds. Fascinating that the machine carried on with two-speed anyways, but still, now I know.

    I jumped from a Mars pro to a Saturn and for me, it's the perfect size. The Jupiter is cool but I'm not running a printing business so I just cannot justify the expenditure and space required for one.
    If I need something huge printed that can't be broken to smaller parts, I'll subcontract the print. It won't be cheap, but it's cheaper than buying a Jupiter just for the one time I need it.
    For me, the Saturn series is big enough to produce something substantial but not so big that it's onerous to work with and house so I'll probably upgrade to a Saturn 2 (or 3) when the time comes that I need or want an upgrade badly enough to justify it.

      Bigger plate is more to scrape but not big enough to be unmanageable.
      Gonna burn through resin faster though.

    I finally got my jupiter a month ago. Still haven't gotten a print to stick to the bed. Stick to FDM.

    Is there a resin printer capable of printing cosplay helmets?

    I mean 1300 dollars for a resin printer that size is really good!

    Your very first premise is completely false. Resin printers do not have build times based off of Z height alone. DLP printers have Z height based print times, whereas SLA printers that use lasers, and are still resin printers, take into account the line/arc lengths of each slice.

    these printers all are going to be obsolete when the first hobby grade printer comes out with a resin management system like the new formlabs printers
