    here is my 2 year review on the mpc live mk2 as a mpc 2kxl and mpc one owner. The mpc live 2 is the best mpc in my personal opinion for the workflow and the amazing input and outputs it comes with as I can connect different guitar pedals to it and other outboard gear. for some amazing mpc live 2 samplings and the mpc workflow this machine stands out to me as i am producing sample-based boombap beats.

    I'm an Ableton Push 2 and Maschine user and I've been using the MPC Live 2 for a few months and at first it was a shock to my system. Its so different, it has like an old school feeling to it. It was so alien but now its finally clicking. I'm getting some speed and I'm making bangers. Love the touchscreen, speakers, and battery. Its the most portable complete beat machine I ever had and I will take it with me more than my plus even though I'm more used to maschine. I use it as a scratch pad and then export to an Ableton Project so I can arrange and mix. It's dope but it'll never replace a real DAW for me.

    I’m in love with your beats and this channel. MPC Live2 is great. I’ve began to make my first beats using Maschine, and I have Maschine+ in my home studio. MPC seemed too hard and strange for me after NI hardware. But now I think that MPC is the best choice. I can take it with me almost everywhere, if I’m driving a car, and sometimes even if I’m just walking. Battery and build-in monitors, opportunity to build my own library of sounds using sampling, mic, or splice. And this feeling - like I have a portable studio and can take it everywhere with me. No freezing, regular updates. if i had to take just one thing from my studio - it will be MPC Live2.

    The thing i want Akai to implement is much better automation, ie being able to automate effects through the send/return channels rather than just inserts. Automating master level would be nice too.

    I love my MPC Live 2. It's enabled me to really learn and understand music in ways I couldn't before when I just had a keyboard and a DAW. A new feature I would like is native VST support. I would love to be able to put Omnisphere 2 on my MPC. Basically since I got my MPC I straight up stopped using FL Studio. So my Omnisphere and FabFilter plugins just sit there and do nothing for me.

There's knob for every mode and it's easier to navigate for me. I agree, more input/output, even if we got the usb possibilité would have been great ! Having owned the live 2 for a few months now. It's a god tier beat machine. As far as the lack of plug ins, truthfully it comes with enough air effects to satisfy anyone who comes from the world of a thousand plug ins. It's not gonna have everything a pc would be able to use. But it's got the basics covered for sure. Your reverb, delay, lofi, and many others are there for sure. It's really impressive. Once you wrap your head around the workflow. Its one knock I can think of would be the touch screens accuracy is sometimes wonky but it's better than 99% of the rest of the market so that's not even really a concern. Most other samplers don't even have a touch screen so it's hard to even compare it to anything in its class. Where it shines above all else in the sampler market is in cutting and manipulating the sample. It's effortless on this or any of the newer mpcs really. Before buying it I had never chopped a sample before, within a month I was cutting up samples like a pro. Time stretching them and chopping by threshold, making entire chop kits. It makes it so easy a child could figure it out. Worth every single penny. Especially if you can find it for $800 used like I did on amazon or reverb.

    16 audio tracks with unlimited length, via disk streaming. SD card on front that goes all the way in like MPC One. 4 1/4" inputs. SMPTE time code reader/generator like MPC 60 to MPC 4k. . 8GB RAM. That is the only way I would buy an MPC workstation. Otherwise, I will continue to use my superior MPC 2000 Classic

    I had the One for a while, but returned it and got Ableton Push 2. I don't regret it because I needed a good DAW and controller. I'm saving for the Live 2 so I can have a standalone to use away from the home studio. Your videos got me rolling with the MPC One, so I'll be back to learn more when I get the Live 2. The MPC line is the only line offering flexible synthesis and sequencing in one place, even though it'll take some getting used to. Thanks man.

    I agree with you; this machine is very powerful. I own it alongside with a fully equipped 2000XL (bought more then 20 years ago) and a 1000 (with JJOS). The LIVE 2 is so fast with swapping projects and after some minor concerns in the beginning I like the user interface with the touchscreen very much. Transfering files fro and to a computer is a joy (I do chopping and compiling programs mostly in my daw). The new grid editor is by far the best of all my MPC. Soundwise it is the same with In-the-box/digital-only production; you have to do a little more plug-in-tweaking to come to fat sounding results which you can get easier with the older machines and their grittier converters. Thanks a lot for your content Malo, I like your kind and informative way of letting us know your tips & tricks for beat production.

    I am interested in the MPC live 2, SP 404 MK2 and Elektron Digitakt. Trying to decide which to buy. I only afford one of them. I would like to use in a live set up to playback recorded tracks, use as drum pad to create loops and create full tracks sequencing on stage. I also want to be able to use to create chunks I can put into a daw to create songs I can record and release, plus create my own drum samples. Am I asking too much or will one of these be what I want??? Would love to hear from you, or anyone on this please. Peace.

    Thank you for the video, Malo. Do you think there's more menu diving in the Live Ii compared to the MPC One? Or are the shortcuts on the Live II helpful to minimize the menu diving?

      More menu diving or pressing shift than the one. I’ve owned both and the one was the best workflow for muscle memory. Live 2 felt disjointed and the buttons were geared for live performance (hence the name) more than beat making.

    MPC Live 2 or One+? I'm torn, but leaning toward the Live 2 for flexibility. Will they drop a new MPC Live soon?

    let me ask you a sampling question that bothers me, and probably not just me. And so the question itself is: How to work with a sample recorded in AKAI if it is not perfect, that is, it has a floating pitch. After all, in this case it is very difficult to register a bass part for a sample, for example. After all, a floating sample pitch will constantly be knocked out of key by a certain number of cents, semitones. In this case, the sample will fall into dissonance with, for example, the prescribed synthesizer parts. Or is reality not as critical as it seems? 🤔

    What about the MPC Studio

    • @malobeats
      @malobeats  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The MPC studio is great if you enjoy the hybrid of working in the box with the hardware but I hardly ever use my computer due to my living situation so I enjoy working in a standalone machine like the MPC live, maybe once I move out to my new place. I feel like I will be using my computer a lot more and will probably bring out the MPC studio and use it a bit more.

    Man I love nine soooo much but I just wish it would stop freezing and crashing ever since these last 3 updates it's been a complete nightmare smh I can't even use software mode I nly use stand alone I never fill up the ram at all so there's no reason for crashes my live 1 I had for 2 years before this one and it never really crashed and NEVER froze like this unt maybe it's just mine but I have ther friends like Kirk State he said his dog the same but be has the Mpc X I really really hope these issues fix because I don't have the money to get another one I saved up a long time for this and shouldn't have these issues only after 2 years I make a lot of beats I ant afford to lose ideas I am a long way from those days in the past I just want my gear to work correctly I've tried tried many many things still get invalid serial number error and no audio somtimes too but not a lot it will come back time to time 🤦🏽‍♂️ I love it still tho

    Anyone think a new Akai Live (3?) is coming out soon?

  • @KnowPiepmatz
    @KnowPiepmatz ปีที่แล้ว

    You can't even embed the MPC in a DAW! Service requests will be ignored. Depending on the update, the error alternates between these two states:
    1. "When im using two controllers (or DAW), each assigned to its own channel and track, notes cancel each other when identical pitches are played at the same time."
    or
    2. The shortest note sends a global "note off"! Notes of different note lengths cannot be received. If the DAW sends a whole note C3 on Midi channel (1) and a half note C3 on Midi channel (2) at the same time, the MPC only plays a half note on both channels. The whole note on MIDI channel (1) is cut off.
    This gives the MPC an absolute unique selling point as a polyphonic instrument. That's not just sick, it's bold. 'Midi in' can only be understood as a joke. The MPC only works independently. For the money I would never buy an MPC again.
    There is a video about it: Enter in the TH-cam search field: 'MPC X / Live Two Bugs'. The video is from 'Creative Spiral'.
