    Thanks for the shout out bro :D
    I haven't had any issues with the computing power at all actually. Now... I haven't made much music with multiple instances of any of the new synths or went crazy like that so I can't say that it won't become an issue in the future for sure. I also just try to keep my projects pretty clean in general, no matter what sampler I use. I rarely have programs open that I don't use, that's just me. Great video! Always love checking out your stuff

      Accurate, I LOVE your videos as well!! Hey, help me understand the way to get my brain over the “program” situation. I love the freedom of my Maschine - any pad, any type of sound/program/synth/etc… i found on the first MPC Live, years back, that the program limitations drove me nuts. You work with both… Do you have this same issue, or did I misunderstand the ”limitation” back then? My PLUS is not stable… so in almost every other way, the MPC Live mk2 looks superior!

    A useful tip is that you can save your project as a preview. It saves in pretty much the same way but it will save a MP3 file of whatever you select - say 4 bars. So when when you go through your library of songs you can hear an audio preview before you load it up. Such a great feature and I use this method instead of selecting recent projects on startup

    regarding folks' concern about CPU usage: I have left mine on all day loading samples, building drums, using plugins, etc without issue. the mp can handle it. plus a few of the of the issues that occurred here are firmware version-specific. 2.10 has some kinks to work out because it does SO much. we've got to remember that. this series of mpc is a full blown music computer. 2.9 was incredibly stable and the next mini update they do (2.10.1 or so) will address everything going on here. just like our laptops, run samples and heavy use items on an external USB or SD and your mpc will be all good. play the hell out of them, my friends

  • @iwillnevergetone5
    @iwillnevergetone5 3 ปีที่แล้ว +32

    everyone, remember the touch screen is robust on purpose because when you're in a real setting playing a set, you're naturally gonna press everything with more force than when sitting in your bedroom with headphones on. like an ATM screen: built to be abused. if it were as pressure-sensitive as an ipad, that would lead to even more incorrect buttons pressed when there's a PA blasting behind u while playing your mpc. for example around 9:50 once Ricky starts jamming he's pressing the pads much harder than earlier on the touch screen. On this series of MP, the screen can also be played like the pads and thus, needs to be durable. enjoy the new MP's

    I've had my mpc Live for 4 Years. I know it in and out. Hands down its the best beat machine/daw/sound engine I've ever owned. I'm still surprised by how much they keep adding to it. I've worked on almost all the mpcs . The 2000 was my joint. I've been producing since the 80s. Give it some time and you'll make more music in a year than the last 10 years on the Live 2....MPC X....or ONE. ✌

      I just jumped out the window and bought one on sale. 🤦🏾‍♂️ I know they say the economy is supposed to have a downturn in 2023. I was thinking about returning it before it's even shipped bc it would probably be wise to save that monthly payment and put it in the stock market. However, your comment - you'll make more beats in a year than in the last 10 - kinda comforts me. I haven't been in the studio in a few years but I feel the inclination to give the world a gift b4 I die. I always wanted an MPC. F it. Why not 🤷🏾‍♂️. I know the Live II is going to inspire me. Coming from Maschine. Super excited. Just the metronome alone sounds more "rap" on the MPC ! I'm about to turn up 1000. I apologize for the rant. I guess I'm still reassuring myself that I made a good & timely purchase 😄

    Wow! Great to see you've got one of the newer MPC's :) I bought a One (to keep costs down) and have had relatively few problems, but then I'm not as quick as you. I've never really looked at or worried about CPU as I've not had any problems. Yes, Marlow is awesome and the review of the 2.10 release is great. Also - I'll vote for a 1 hour stream of you on your Live II would be SO AWESOME! And yes, the community is great as I'm terrible (lazy) with manuals and just like to feel my way. Whenever I've had problems, people have always been there to help - pretty quick too. Welcome to the club and can't wait to hear what you produce - especially when you hook it up to Ableton, some synths and modular.
    PS I've had a Push2 for ages too, but it's so limitless which is why I got the MPC One to introduce some limitations and go DAWless (although the irony is I now use it with Ableton sometimes) after being originally inspired by you.

    One thing that you didn't mention in your video is how easy it is to move your work in the MPC to Ableton Live. These MPC's have Ableton Live export, so you can play around as much as you want in the MPC, and export your work as an Ableton Live Set. It really has the best integration with Ableton Live than any other standalone groove box/drum machine.

    • @danielmulholland5869

      What it's really missing is usb audio. It's wild that it can host interfaces but you can't just plug usb from the live into Ableton and track out like that, especially with things like the s2400, sp404, elektron gear, Roland gear, etc all doing it no problem. It's a small price to pay for everything that's in the live 2 though

    I bought an MPC ONE in January, just to augment my aging MPC collection with a higher resolution sequencer.
    Also like the sample chopping for breakbeats and midi data extraction for groove templates.
    - Twice my unit has glitched on me, - both times I was performing repetitive functions, so I was building up speed with the button pressing, and I feel the machine just couldn't catch up with itself.
    I'm now looking at the X, but would prefer just an expanded ONE XL, larger pads, fixed tilted screen, more physical ins and outs. Definitely not selling my older units though.
    The only cons with the new MPC units for me, personally, are the pre-loaded sounds - I'd rather just have the spare memory, the AIR effects plugins aren;t for me. I don't use the soft synths, as I have a large vintage collection of hardware, but the built in soft synths are very capable.
    love to ALL, feel no hate

    Hey Ricky!
    Thank you for all the knowledge you share.
    Watching your videos on the newest mpcs and your little fights with it (😂… I’m the same), I would like to tell you to keep on because they are amazing.
    About the CPU usage, you’ll have to take care like you had to on the old ones with the project memory.
    About the bugs, the last 2.9 was much more stable. In this 2.10 I’ve already get a lot of bugs including the edit all pads thing. The midi maping is losing it’s sources but not the ccs, and a bunch of others, and already send email to akai with some of them. We hope soon will be fixed.
    I’m working for at least 1 year only on Live and X, off the box, as standalone, and producing whole tracks from ideia to finish on them. Sounds really amazing!!
    Don’t forget to split your sounds outputs to submixes that changes EVERYTHING!!
    I already made a trick to do Global automation, so i can automate plugins in submixes and outputs, since they are outside the sequence and there was “no way” to do it, but I figured out how.
    If you’d like to hear some of the projects I’m doing, send me a message and I’ll send you some of the music, since they are unreleased yet.
    Thank you from a friend from Brazil!! 🇧🇷

    Workflow is fast for me. If you make a 2bar loop with drums, go into the sequence properties and increase it by 2x, it will double it into a 4x loop and so on. I can work on each sequence as a portion of the song from intros, copy the intro into the verse and arrange it differently, copy it into a chorus and add or change instruments, effects, automate volume levels to pull down sounds and increase others. Its a learning curve no doubt, but I've yet to hear someone say they were born knowing how to use a DAW to its full functionality. much love for the channel!

    I wanted to thank you. I spent a few months looking for a set of Studio headphones. You mentioned some in passing in a video you did (aiaiai). I got them Friday, assembled them, and have never been happier. They are made of recycled material, designed to be repaired by the customer, and have the option to have the response I want (flat). The best part, they are cheaper than the pair they replaced… That’s a brand (the replaced brand) I’ll never go back to no matter how much the parent company PRETENDS they are environmentally responsible. Oh, and I’ve got an MPC Live II that I’ve had for a month that I’m learning too. So thank you for that as well. Hit us with a bunch more MPC Live II.

    For me, the best short cut is to hold main and then you can quick select tracks on the screen with one hand. Well, almost one hand. If you're in bank A, you can select track 1 to 16 this way, you need to press the bank button with your left hand to switch to another bank. It would be so good if Akai would add a small set of bank buttons on the bottom of the touchscreen so you can quick select banks with one hand 🙏🏻 also the new 'BANK A' etc text over the on screen pad buttons is madness. It means you can't quick select with one tap anymore. 😠 I'd also highly recommend the Akai Midimix, you can assign the three knobs on 8 tracks to do what you like. So can control the filter on any synth at any time and also fade volumes in/out or toggle mutes with the buttons. It's great.

    OMFG I cant believe you purchased a MPC workstation. It should be snowing in Los Angeles by now. I still have not taken the plunge. Dont plan on doing it any time soon. MPC 2000 classic for life. 32MB is more than enough memory for me. But I like watching those Ave Mcree Live II/MPC One retro videos. Marlow Digs and Accurate Beats are cool too. Why the hesitation? Jump in, Diane, the water is cool! I think you could still load 2kxl files in the new ones, not totally sure. But that'd be cool to a/b your projects on both and see how you like it. The huge leap in speeding up workflow from loading/saving and chopping alone is worth it!

    Love my Mpc one so much. The internal plugins and effects do a really great job. Key group instruments and auto sampling are really great on this thing.
    One gripe that i do have the with the Mpc though is how it handles time signatures for polyrhythms as time signature is fixed for the whole project. My 20 year old rs7000 can have different time signatures on a per track basis which will loop alongside your other tracks. To do this on the Mpc you have to have a longer sequence length and write the notes in as if you are playing in that time signature and then copy the notes for the whole sequence where it will still have a section where it breaks from that rhythm and start again as the sequence loops.
    Everything else is amazing. Most inspiring piece of gear that I've bought

    • @LousyFacelift
      @LousyFacelift 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, from what I've seen you have individual track lengths in (down-) beats which in its default state means quarter notes. So in order to use shorter phrases (like five sixteenths or so) you need to copy events a couple of times before a fitting length is matched. Maybe there is a way to redefine "beats" but so far I haven't found out. Always wanted an RS-7000 btw. It seems like an awesome box.

    Someone prob already said it, but top tag on th right is r or W. Read or write. The track on the eye icon then has the same option to record automation. Next thing you’ll need is deleting it, so go to the track or step view. Look for something like the word velocity, and a drop down arrow. Tap it and it will open the automation line. You should be able to figure out deleting the automation from there.. use the icons top of page to select delete or pencil tool.

  • @niklassilen4313
    @niklassilen4313 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    CPU is exactly the same in all the MPC Live/Live2/One/X. So far it's been no problem at all. You can literally play hundreds of samples at a time with full 4 slot effects. The CPU meters do not scale linearly or realistically. The highest I've reached in an actual project is about 90% and that was a BUSY project.

    I think the best way to approach this unit is to think of a DAW but compact and outside a compurter. I think the parameters you're referring to reference recording filters and such can be done in the recording of automation. Like steinbergs cubase, you create an automation track, assign the fx and tweaks you want and away you go with the capability to record automation in real time so it will be there forever in your track. It is a bit big for the small box. A bit like the new Wavestate synth by Korg that has you gettin bogged down with parameter tweaks rather than playing. A bit of billy wizz and you'll be fine but, you don't really wanna be doing that. assigning automation trax to q link will get you recording fx etc, it's just as you say, 'the learning curve you have to negotiate.' I hope to pick one up soon. But, cannot understand why only one pair of stereo trs inputs but three pair of stereo trs outputs all at 6.3. I would have thought 2 pairs of stereo outputs would be enough for booth and main out leaving you the chance to have 2 pairs of trs stereo inputs from external gear with a possibility of 4 mono as opposed to 2 mono of the on stereo pair. But I guess, we all work our way through what best suits us. I'll be reet in five years time I am sure. I will have found the on off switch by then lol. Great vids as always Ricky but, whereas you seemed keen some time ago with the MPC Live II you are now giving a somewhat subdued account. Last comment wuz for entertainment purposes only. If I give ET a giggle he might not kill me. take it easy.

    By the way, not sure if someone already told you, but you can easily assign a q-knob by simply push and hold the Q-link button and then tap on a knob, and then hit Learn, and then tap on the screen of the soft knob you want to assign it to, and then release the Q-link button again. It's not super intuitive, but it's much quicker than navigating to the setting you want to assign through the menus.

    ya I just got one last night while changing time signatures....maybe you wanna try to replicate. the steps are...
    - open empty project
    - sys > edit sequence
    - insert bars before bar one, with your new time sig. I used 5/4
    - delete the bars that fall after the bars you just inserted.
    - then MENU Browse to find a kit
    - load kit....
    - crash, machine restarts to startup screen.
    if I do it in a different order, kit first change time, it's fine.

I never had a crash until the new update just the other day I had a few keygroups, drum programs and plugins going then I tried adding Odyssey plugin, my cpu went to 85% and crashed, turned off and rebooted. Never really paid attention to cpu as it hovered around 30% most times. Tried it again and it was fine. I'm trying to find where to submit bug reports but Akai customer service is def lacking.
