This was GOLDEN! The way he 'jacked the groove' w/ his own drums is a real GEM! I'll have to watch this a few more times to really get what he did. It looks like he got the drum stems from the sample, copied it, duped it, moved the drum elements to pads 1-3, then I guess he took one of the drum programs and replaced the stemmed out drum sounds w/ his own. Man, so ill! Salute to Ski Beatz...it's been a minute since I've participated in one of his Smack Pack challenges. Oh, if anyone is looking for some dope bass sounds for the MPC, Ski Beatz put out a P-Bass MPC expansion - its my absolute go-to for dope bass sounds. Peace, and salute to everybody in the MPC gang who waited patiently for standalone stems!!!
I know that was golden. Only thing I hate is we cant see the whole process and those stem out drums sound wayyyyyy better than what Ive been getting. I guess i have to use better samples with Louder drums
Ski has so many gems. I was one of the Smack Pack sample designers in 11 and 12 and it was an honor for people to chop up my samples and for Ski to give me that opportunity. Peace, Love and Blessings
Man look, a few years back I went to two of his sound design workshops he had and it opened my mind to a lot with what little you can do with a simple sine, saw, triangle, and square wave
@@davidscott2095 David! Good to see you over here on this side of TH-cam bro! Ski is one of the greats , I don’t know if you know, but he used to be in a group with Jay Z and rap. Back in 1995 I interned at a studio and saw a lot of Jay z first album being made! Great times and stories I’ll tell real soon ✅
His replacement drum tones were a bit rough but you could see how that could be awesome. I'd love to take the tones of one classic loop and map them onto the groove of another... Do like an "amen-Apache" loop. That could be sick.
So, I'm researcing MPC Plus and I landed on Ski Beatz page and in an instant I flashed back to my freshman year at NCAT in Greensboro. I still pump those Payroll joints often! Hold the lafta my jam! Sean stayed across the hall from me in the dorm and when he teamed up with Dizzy (I think) it was over! Anyway, tell Will Ski thanks for the memories!
😳 DAAAAAAMN, That Drum Technique Is Epic...You Need To Put Together Some Intricate Tutorials Or Classes, I Would Most Definitely Sign Up....!!!✊🏾💪🏾✊🏾💪🏾
I figured it out. One you duplicate the loop, bounce the program as a sample. Go to your sample edit and chop the loop. You then go back to the sequence and replace the loop with the chopped sample. You then replace the chopped program with your own drums. Took me a few hours to figure it out.
I really hope this continues to be worked on. It can be so much better. I've read that the PC version is better and I'm sure standalones won't mind the option of it taking longer to stem as long.
I don't know how the original drums sound like that after being passed through Stems, they sound way better than things I sampled, that were less busy in the mix
@@maximilianfunke6615 the sample is “Never Can Say Goodbye” by Little Beaver. The record on the top of his stack. Also a jam kablam. But that record underneath is where it’s at.
Def genius b/c idk wtf he just did and he was sayin it !! I’m lookin and listening like WHAT 🤕🤯🙃I’ll save this and watch it 20 more times and take it step by step for the summer 🤦🏾♂️lol #215salute 🪖
That's because they took 45 minutes or so and chopped it into 4 minutes 😅. Still dope work. The create events is something I never thought of. It's pretty dope because it gives you different feels to your sequence . My stems definitely don't sound as clean and heavy as shown here. I got to work on beefing them up.
I am new to the MPC and learned so much from this. I have a question that maybe someone can answer. When I do an event and play in in the grid it doesn’t really follow the tempo of the grid. It seems to go of beat and live its own life. Anyone knows what I am doing wrong here? Thanks
3:00 it took me a minute to wrap my head around this. It’s fascinating. Somebody should make a full video tutorial on “jacking the groove” or “copping a feel” The nerds will call it a “groove template”
Seems to me that this was not the standalone stems version that he was using because the desktop version sounds significantly better. Day and night really..
MPC 3.0 makes this workflow so much slower, how do we switch the drums out quick when programs do not work how they use to? mutes are also global. Please do not take things away from us.
This is more like a documentary focused on a certain individual, can you guys make a technical video next time that answers all our questions for Akai users? thanks

this guy in 4 minutes taught me more things than some top star producers of the moment who made videos for Akai RESPECT!!!
Love that technique of pulling all the drum samples down across a few pads to layer seamlessly ❤
My man SkiBeatz, what up sensei, OG right here. One the illest producers in HipHop!!!!!!!
Imma have to run that drum technique back a few times. That was super duper sauce
