    The 205 GTI is such an icon, every 205 GTI out there still needs some good tender loving care like you are doing.

    Seeing a guy remove rusty parts from an old car shouldn't be interesting, but there's a humour, honesty, enthusiasm, and relatability that makes it so watchable.

    you are truly an amazingly creative person! Not only are you mechanically inclined but also exceptionally lucky to have a workshop with seemingly no limits however someone else would hardly have the artistic creativity you have shown to your audience since the rebuild of George! Your choice of music with which you backup your videos alone deserves a price. Now it is for me to find the end - still blown by your creativity.

    Man I just continue to just be impressed of how relaxing watching you work on a car can be! And once in a while you just casually drop world class cinematography as well. I am really happy with your content just wish it was uploaded more regularly I think that could boost your channels popularity. Cheers.

      Well I managed 16 or so weekly uploads and now took a two week holiday. I think that still counts as regular. New episodes every monday. ✌🏼

    I love the 205 and renault 5 , the french really did a fine job on these hot hatches.

    I have deja vu watching this, as i have a Citroen ZX Volcane that i've been working on for 10 months. So much is the same or almost the same. Engine mounts, the cradle under the engine, transmission, half-shafts, auspuff routing, rear suspension (except mine has discs), and even the spare wheel holder. Very similar car, the ZX was the first car made under PSA collab, hence it's so much like a 205/309. The ZX has the same chassis as the 306. Good luck with the restoration!

    Just come across your channel my first car was a 1.6 gti and I’m looking to get another one in the next year, when you started talking about the sump plug I immediately remembered my dad grinding the socket(I still have it in my tool box) then seeing do it brought back so many good memories thank you. Will now sit down and watch this series.

    I started with the same sentiments as yourself in 2017 to make it tidy..but I just got carried away and I have overhauled all the underside paint and all, I hope to rebuild my engine and box this year and then get the shell painted next year but I have not had chance to make progress for 2 years so your series has inspired me to pull my finger out, thank you for this!

    I really like your channel well presented and good camera work. You have successfully captured the art of turning a wrench, and manage to convey the detailed process of mechanical craftsmanship while keeping your videos engaging.

      I shop as a whole is part of the family business, and I function as the resident "if a problem is weird or if any of the old cars needs something"-guy. So to answer the question: Neither, I am incredibly lucky.

    Nice to see a 205 GTI in so good condition. If you can work in a workshop like this, there is nothing you can't do by yourself. 205 is so easy to work on. Eh, there is one. The rear beam axle but only if the bearings are shot. Otherwise it looks very promising. Clean, repaint and replace with new parts and 205 GTI will be the best daily. Good luck!

    • @OnlyARoadtripAway
      @OnlyARoadtripAway  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did a lot of research on the rear beam and while I haven‘t fully understood how it functions I am going to rebuild it. The car has 240k-km so I reckon it‘s reasonable to do so.

    • @Oscar-pm9bx
      @Oscar-pm9bx ปีที่แล้ว

      Tell me more about this rear axle. I have found one near me, with no rear axle at all, tank taken off and no exhaust (not a gti) im a mechanic apprentice, quite far into it. How complex is it?

    • @OnlyARoadtripAway
      @OnlyARoadtripAway  ปีที่แล้ว

      It isn‘t that hard. Just remember to measure the depth of the original bearing in the axle and put the new ones in the same place. You can also watch the follow-up episodes to this where I deal with it.

    Zur Info.. dort ist vorne ist nicht die Wagenheber Aufnahme, auch wenn sie augenscheinlich so aussieht… ;)
    Das ist ein dünnes Blech, Hohlraum und dann bodenblech.. Aufnahme ist der Schweller direkt, auch wenn es da schmal ist.. ✌🏻

    • @OnlyARoadtripAway
      @OnlyARoadtripAway  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wieder was gelernt - denke es war in Ordnung weil die Auflagefläche ziemlich groß ist, aber man sieht auf einer Seite auch dass es eingedrückt ist. Hinten hab ich den Schweller genommen.

    • @Bobzen89
      @Bobzen89 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@OnlyARoadtripAway drückt immer ein, wenn man ihn da anhebt, weil es dafür nicht konstruiert war, dadurch reißt dann sehr oft die Naht zum Unterboden Blech
      ansonsten gutes Gelingen und viel Freude beim fahren ✌🏻

      @OnlyARoadtripAway  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ja irgendjemand vor mir hatte es punktuell versucht, vmtl mit nem kleinen Wagenheber. Habe noch so meine Orientierungsschwierigkeiten mit dem Ding, ist etwas anders als mein übliches Zeug. 🥳

      The pug is the winter car! It'll be nice, but not overdone and thus perfectly usable with a weekly underbody wash!

      That‘s fairly non-specific… 😂 - I get used special parts off forums or ebay and mechanical stuff at an autoparts store.
